JOINING THE COMPANY OF BELIEVERS
What will help you to believe? Today’s scripture readings tell of faith and doubt. They offer stories “recorded to help you believe,” as the passage from John’s Gospel
(20:31) remarks today. There is an urgency about this. On this Second Sunday of Easter we are challenged to join the company of be-lievers—countless men and women who witnessed the power of the apostles’ faith.
There is no doubt that this power comes from Jesus Christ. The second reading,
from the book of Revelation, reports John’s mystical vi-sion of the Son of Man, who proclaims, “Once I was dead, but now I live” (Revelation 1:18). The Gospel gath-ers everyone but Thomas to see the Risen Jesus and re-ceive the Holy Spirit from him. Like Thomas, we who have come along later must have faith so that we can have life. UNIRSE A LA COMUNIDAD DE CREYENTES
¿Qué te ayudará a tener fe? Las lecturas bíblicas de hoy hablan de la fe y de la duda. Se “escribieron… para que us-tedes crean”, como nos dice hoy el pasaje del Evangelio de
san Juan (20:31). Tiene esto una cierta urgencia. En este Segundo Domingo de Pascua se nos lanza un desafío a unir-nos a la comunidad de creyen-tes –un sinnúmero de hombres y mujeres que dan testimonio del poder de la fe de los Após-toles.
No hay duda que este poder viene de Jesucristo. La segunda
lectura, del libro del Apocalipsis, relata la visión mística de Juan sobre el Hijo del Hombre, el cual proclama: “Estuve muerto y de nuevo soy el que vive” (Apocalipsis 1:18). El Evangelio reúne a todos excepto a Tomás para ver a Jesús resucitado y recibir de él el Espíritu Santo. Al igual que Tomás, los que hemos llegado más tarde debemos tener fe para poder tener vida. An Opportunity to Learn and Serve Our faith community is part of the Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS Network (TIHAN), the largest volunteer-based provider of support services for people living with HIV in Southern Arizona. TIHAN helps people with HIV to live well, and they have a variety of vol-unteer opportunities –direct services, administrative support in the office, and fundraising support. Holy Week – The Work of Many Hands & Voices From Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday, our Catholic Church is rich in its liturgical celebrations. To celebrate them well requires a lot of people and a lot of time (a good amount of which is “in the background”). Thank you to all who went “the extra mile” to make our observance of this sacred time rich in its prayer-fulness: our music ministries (Anglo, Hispanic and African Choirs working together as one); our Jóve-nes Adultos group (young Hispanic Adults); our Knights of Columbus; our Liturgical Ministers; and members of our parish and school staff.
On Good Friday, the reflections on the Stations of the Cross at noon were provided by Br. Manu; and at 3 PM, under the direction of Manuelita Aguirre, parishioners of various ages and from our different ethnic groups presented our Living Stations of the Cross. Then, on Easter Sunday morning, under the direction of Deacon Mario Aguirre, members of various organizations and ministries within our Hispanic Community contributed plants and time to plant a Resurrection Garden on our Parish Plaza.
Our “unity in diversity” shone brightly throughout the week. May we continue to grow as one, holy, catholic and apostolic parish in the coming year.
Semana Santa – El Trabajo de Muchas Manos y Voces Desde el domingo de Ramos hasta el Domingo de Pascua, la Iglesia católica es rica en sus celebraciones litúrgicas. Para celebrar bien re-
quiere una gran cantidad de gente y un montón de tiempo (una buena cantidad de la que se encuentra “detrás de la cortina”). ¡Gracias a todos los que aportaron “la milla extra” para que nuestra observancia de este tiempo sagrado rico en su espíritu de oración: nuestros ministerios de música (los coros anglosajones, hispanos y africanos trabajaronn juntos como uno solo); nuestro grupo de Jóvenes Adultos (Adultos
Hispanos jóvenes); nuestros Caballeros de Colón; nuestros ministros litúrgicos; y los miembros de nuestro personal de la parroquia y de la escuela.
El Viernes Santo, las reflecciones de las estaciones de la cruz al me-diodía fueron proporcionadas por nuestro Hno. Manu; y a las 3 pm, bajo la dirección de Manuelita Aguirre, feligreses de diversas edades y de nuestros diferentes grupos étnicos coordinaron el Vía Crucis en Vi-vo. Luego, el domingo de Pascua por la mañana, bajo la dirección del Diácono Mario Aguirre, miembros de diversas organizaciones y ministe-rios dentro de nuestra Comunidad Hispana contribuyeron para plantar bellas flores en un jardín de Resurrección en nuestra Plaza Parroquial.
Nuestra “unidad en la diversidad” brilló durante toda la semana. Que podamos seguir creciendo como una, parroquia santa, católica y apostólica en el próximo año.

This month, let us show God’s mercy to the sick by providing
items that Tucson Interfaith HIV/Aids Network (TIHAN) puts into its CarePackages. TIHAN provides CarePackages to its CarePartners as one of its support outreach efforts. Each month they re-ceive 90 to 130 CarePackage requests. Every CarePackage includes:
● toilet tissue (two-ply) ● hand/body lotion ● paper towels ● deodorant ● shampoo ● feminine hygiene products ● soap ● laundry and dish detergent ● disposable razors ● household cleaning supplies ● toothpaste/toothbrush
You may place these donated items in the basket at our Mercy Center in the back of church throughout the month of April.

Do you know an inactive Catholic? Our parish is reaching out to inactive Catholics using a program called Catholics Reaching Out. This initia-tive is intended to welcome them back to the Church family. Sessions will be offered in both Spanish and English.
An invitation (the special insert in the last two Sunday bulletins) has been prepared which you can give to inactive Catholics you know. The invitation is to six weekly discus-sion sessions continuing this Wednesday, 6 April from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM in the Retreat Room in Dougherty Activity Center, and then continues for 4 consecutive Wednesday eve-nings. You are welcome to accompany the person(s) to any or all of the sessions.

Normally we have Liturgy of the Word with Chil-dren twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Sundays at our 1:00 PM Mass in Spanish. Volunteers are needed to do this at our 10:00 AM Mass. Would you be willing to serve in this ministry? Contact Becki Jenkins in the Parish Office.

Celebrating Easter Sacraments Celebrando los Sacramentos de la Pascua First Communion As has become our custom, our primary time for celebrat-ing First Communion will be at the Masses of the 3rd Sun-day of Easter. This is the Sunday of the Easter Season on which our scripture readings focus on Jesus eating with his disciples. (This year, he cooks them breakfast on the sea-shore.) Therefore, at all our Sunday Masses next weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 9 & 10 April) we will be celebrating First Communions.
Although it would be great to celebrate all First Communions on this Sunday, we cannot accommodate all of our children on one Sunday, nor is it convenient for all families. Therefore, we will include another celebration at the Mass in Spanish on Sun-day, 17 April at 1:00 PM.
Please note that at all First Communion Masses, the seats in the front of the church will be reserved for the First Communi-cants and their parents/sponsors.
Primera Comunión Como se nos ha hecho costumbre estos últimos años, cele-braremos la Primera Comunión el tercer domingo de Pascua. Este es el domingo del tiempo de Pascua en que nuestras lec-turas de las escrituras se concentran en que Jesús comió con sus discípulos. (Este año, les prepara el desayuno en la orilla
del mar.) Por lo tanto, en todas las Misas del domingo del próximo fin de semana, a todas de nuestra misas (sábado y domingo, 9 y 10 de abril) celebraremos las Primeras Comuniones.

The State of Arizona has provided taxpayers an education tax credit since 1998. This means that when you send a con-tribution up to $2,134 if filing jointly or up to $1,067 if filing singly, the State will provide you a dollar-for-dollar-tax credit. This is a wonderful way for individuals to provide tui-tion assistance for students in Catholic schools at no addi-tional cost to themselves.
