Review date: July 2000Director: Wolfgang PetersenProducers: Wolfgang Petersen, Gail Katz, Paula WeinsteinActors: George Clooney as Captain Billy Tyne, Mark Wahlberg as Bobby ShatfordThe Plot: This is a true story. It’s fall 1991, Captain Billy Tyne – George Clooney in the movie – takes his fish-ing boat Andrea Gail and his crew into the Atlantic Ocean for the last trip of the year. Captain Tyne needs fish and money. But the weather is stormy and when three storms meet, they make the worst storm for 100 years – the Perfect Storm! The Best Parts: The boat is awesome – it’s old and dirty. You can smell the fish! This is a $140 million movie, so the special effects are amazing. The storms are the biggest, noisiest, wettest sea scenes in the world! It’s re-ally scary – the waves are enormous. I dropped my popcorn when the boat rolled over in the water! And I love George Clooney – he’s an excellent actor. The Worst Parts: It’s noisy and the movie’s more than two hours long but after fifteen minutes I started to feel seasick. The story’s exciting, but by the end I wanted to get into my warm bed and close my eyes. My Rating: A great action movie. Some of the acting is awful, the story’s messy, and it’s long, so only three stars. It’s the Perfect Storm, but it isn’t the Perfect Movie.★★★✩✩

Life after school

Most American homes now have computers and twenty-three percent of children have a computer in their bedrooms. The most popular activity is ‘social networking’. Teenagers also use the Inter-net for their homework.

Of course, kids in the USA aren’t always in front of a screen and they don’t always go straight home – many of them do after-school activities like sports or art and music classes. It’s great that teens do active things, too and don’t spend all their time in front of the TV or computer!

When students in the USA finish school they like to relax in front of a screen – watching TV or going online.

Nearly eighty percent of American children have a TV in their bedroom. Most children can read a magazine, use the Internet and watch TV at the same time – ‘multi-tasking’.
