G13 Galler y is p leased to present ‘Kow Leong K iang’, a showcase exhibi t ion at A r t Formosa 2017. The ar t ist, Kow Leong K iang who is f rom Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia has established himsel f as respec ted f igurat i ve painter back at home and neighbor ing count r ies. To t his date, he has been invo lved in numerous amounts o f ar t pro jec t s namely so lo exhibi t ions, group shows, ar t ist residency programs and t a lks which were held in t he past both loca lly and at internat ional level. The ar t ist is no st ranger to t he land of Taiwan as he had par t ic ipated in A r t Taipei and A r t Kaohsiung before. The showcase exhibi t ion by t he ar t ist denotes his f ir st st int at t he A r t Formosa as an exchange of honor and acknow ledgement f rom one to another.

The exhibi t ion is a cont inuat ion of t he painter’s ser ies o f a Malay gir l t hat s igni f icant ly and v isually represent t he core idea to his body of wor k. More t han just a muse, t he por t raya l o f his por t ra i ture is o f ten brought for ward by t he ar t ist to nar rate t he stor y o f Malaysia t hrough the perspec t i ve o f cul ture and soc io-po li t ica l v iew. Despi te t he rei terat ion of t he subjec t, t he ar t ist believes t hat just like t he ever changing scene of t he po li t ica l landscape in his count r y, t he rev isi t is not just wor thy but a lso relevant. The only under ly ing di f ference is how t ime and space has in f luenced the whole t hought process of t he ar t ist in relat ion to his way of nar rat ing t he idea.

The evo lu t ion of his ever y brushst roke, master f ul techniques, ei t her discovered or mastered, ser ves as a li v ing test imony to t he Malay gir l ser ies. The combinat ion of his subt le and int r icate render ing of t he subjec t o f mul t ip le poses car r ies var ious disp lay o f emot ion which is inexplicable at cer t a in po int; t he f ragile feeling of prot r uded and disturbed, tempted, confused and somet ime absurd. Indirec t ly, t hese feelings metaphor ica lly ref lec t his t hought on his p lace of or igin f rom the perspec t i ve o f an ar t ist, a member o f a communi t y, and as a person.

As an ac t i ve par t ic ipant o f internat ional ar t fa ir s, G13 Galler y has been p lay ing a signi f icant par t in promot ing what Malaysian ar t has to o f fer espec ia lly w i t h t he highlight s t hat Southeast Asia region has been get t ing recent ly. Cont inuing t he ef for t o f wor k ing together w i t h Kow Leong K iang and other Malaysian ar t ist has been both a blessing and honor to G13 galler y. Kow received his Dip loma in Fine A r t in 1991 f rom Kuala Lumpur College of A r t. In 1998, he won the Grand Pr ize in t he Philip Mor r is ASEAN A r t Awards. In 2004 he was a resident ar t ist at Vermont Studio Center, USA .In 2008 completed a residency w i t h V WFA and Tembi Contemporar y in Yogyakar t a, Indonesia and has spent t he last t hree years bet ween Malaysia and Indonesia where he has exhibi ted regular ly. Moreover, he has par t ic ipated t wo ar t ist residency programs ini t ia ted by Baik A r t in 2013 and 2015 which took p lace at Seoul and Jeju Is land A r t ist Residency, Korea and 18th St reet A r t Center, Cali fo r nia, USA respec t i vely. To date, he has held eleven so lo exhibi t ions, inc luding: ‘Human’ in Red Mill Galler y, Vermont, USA and ‘Float ing Wor ld’ in V WFA KL (2003); ‘Silent Conversat ion’ in V WFA KL (2005); ‘O ther People’ in V WFA KL (2007); ‘Jog ja Constella t ion’ in Tembi Contemporar y, Yogyakar t a, Indonesia (2009); ‘Int imate Collis ions’ in V WFA KL (2010); and ‘Facescape of Bali’, in A r t Bazaar A r t Jakar t a, Indonesia (2015).

He has a lso par t ic ipated in group exhibi t ions in Malaysia, Indonesia, China and V ietnam, which inc lude: ‘Cont inui t ies: Contem-porar y A r t o f Malaysia at t he turn o f 21st Centur y’ in Guangdong Museum of A r t, China (2004); ‘Tenggara: Contemporar y Paint ings f rom Indonesia, Malaysia, Philipp ines’ in t he Novus Contemporar y Urban Cent re. Li verpool, UK (2008); ‘Headlight s’ in V WFA Singapore and ‘Tanah Ayer: Malaysian stor ies f rom the Land’ in Selasar Soenar yo, Bandung, Indonesia (2011). In addi t ion, Kow has a lso been par t ic ipat ing in internat ional ar t fa ir to promote his ar t to a w ider audience. To name a few, he has jo ined exhibi t ions at Bazaar A r t Jakar t a in Indonesia, A r t Stage in Singapore, both A r t Taipei and A r t Kaohsiung in Taiwan, Star t A r t Fair (held at Saatchi Galler y) in UK, and A r t Busan in Korea. He is now based mainly in Selangor, Malaysia.

的情緒加以描繪，虛擬出徘徊於暗示與彰顯之間的各種意識，也間接反映了畫家成

長與生活之中的動盪國度。
