Weeks ago, Javier and Yanvier were learning how to factor during UR.

x2 + 2x + 1

Yanvier: Find numbers. When you multiply them, this, and add, this.

Javier: Yes. When factoring this, I need to find numbers when you add them is 2.

...and when you multiply them is 1.

Javier: So this is the answer, because… 1 + 1 =2 and 1 x 1 = 1

How about this one?

Javier: Well, I need a number that adds to 5 and multiplies to 4, sooo….(Javier calculates in his head). The numbers must be 1 and 4.

This is because 1+4=5 and 1x4=4. Here’s the solution.

Javier and Yanvier did a great job finding and remembering patterns.

They used one problem as a model. This helped make other problems more easy.

Work habits shown: Listening to each other / not dominating conversation in Unison ReadingThey had no need to ask a teacher for help. They learned how to factor by helping each other.
