"यह कहानी है एक असुर क , बेयसुरा जसका था नाम। और गाना-गनुगनुाना था उसका मनचाहा काम।" यह कहते ए शु क अ पू ने अपनी दा तान।

द दा, पया और भोलू बैठ गये सुनने खोलकर कान।

"बेयसुरा को गाने म बड़ा मज़ा आता था, ले कन उसके साथी असुर को उसका गाना ज़रा भी नहसुहाता था," अ पू ने बताया। "इस लए बेयसुरा को उ ह ने भेज दया र पहाड़ क चोट पर, ता क बेयसुरा के बेसुरे अलाप औरतान से न होना पड़े उ ह परेशान।"

अ पू द दा के बड़े से पलँग पर चढ़ गया जैसे जा प ंचा हो ऊँचे पहाड़ के ऊपर। फर बनाकर अपनी आवाज़ असुर जैसी डरावनी भारी, अ पू ने तान छेड़ कर क बेयसुरा क तरह गाने

क तैयारी।

"साआआआआआ..." के साथ अ पू ने बताया क बेयसुरा ने कैसे गाया।

"रेएएएएए..." पर उसने आवाज़ म यादा ज़ोर लगाया।

बेयसुरे के सुर को सुनकर सूरज ने मुँह बदकाया। असर आ यह क उसक करण ने जोश गँवाया।

'गाआआआआआ...' आने पर उसने सर पर आसमान उठाया!

बेसुरा ही सही, पर लय-ताल म बेयसुरा को ऐसा मज़ा आया क वह ख़ुद को कथक करने से रोक नपाया।"

"'धा- धन- धन-धा कर।' ताल मलायी, पैर से देते ए थाप, उसने गोल-गोल च कर लगाया।

नाचते ए उसे इतना मज़ा आ रहा था, क वह साथ-साथ गाता जा रहा था... माआआआआआ...पाआआआआआ...'

बेयसुरा के धमाल का ऐसा आ असर, क शां त से सोये ए पहाड़ क न द टूट गयी, और जाग उठाघबरा कर। काँपने लगा, लग रहा था उसे बेसुरे असुर के गाने से डर।

घड़घड़ा कर गरने लग च ान धड़ाधड़।

गरी च ान, तो डोल गयी धरती सहम कर।"

" या तुम लोग को पता है क च ान गरने पर या आ?" अ पू ने अपनी ोता मंडली से पूछा।

द दा ने 'न' म गदन हलायी। और नटखट सी मु कान उनके होठ पर छायी। "म तु ह बताता ँ क या आ," अ पू ने कहा। "धरती हलने लगी! पहाड़ काँप उठे। सब कुछ अपनी जगह से खसकने लगा। यहाँ तक क वशालकाय बेयसुरा भी सीधा नह रह सका खड़ा, इधर-उधर झूलने लगा!"

"धरती डोलने लगी, "ऐसे...," ज़मीन पर बैठे-बैठे झूमते ए अ पू ने बताया, "ऐसे...!" और फर थोड़ा और झूम कर दखाया।

तभी सचमुच धरती डोलने लगी!पलँग ऐसे हलने लगा जैसे बेयसुरा क कहानी म पहाड़ हल रहे थे!

"अ पू, अपना राग अलापना बंद करो!" पया चीखी, "तुमने पहाड़ को डरा दया।""सारा कमरा हल रहा है," अ पू ने कहा, "अरे मने थोड़े ही कुछ कया!"

द दा, अ पू और पया क बोलती बंद हो गयी। यहाँ तक क भोलू भी भ कना भूल गया।तभी एक और झटका लगा, पहले से यादा तेज़।"देखो फश हल रहा है!" अ पू ने चीखते ए कहा।"ये सब बेयसुरा क माया है!" पया च लायी।"नह रे," द दा ने शांत रहते ए कहा, "भूकंप आया है।"

"बाहर भागने का समय भी नह है हमारे पास। झटपट पलँग के नीचे घुस जाओ," द दा ने सुझाया।सारे के सारे द दा के ऊँचे से पलँग के नीचे बक गये और सब ने कस कर पकड़ लया पलँग का एक-एक पाया।फर भी डोलती रही धरती क काया।

धड़ा-धड़-धड़! गु ड़याए ँअलमारी म न रह सक खड़ी, लड़खड़ाते ए नीचे आन पड़ ।छप-छपाक! जग म भरा पानी अपने आप छपाके के साथ बाहर नकल आया।"ओ...!" ज़मीन हलती देख अ पू च लाया।"आआऊंऊंऊंऊंऊं!" भोलू ने पुकार लगायी, लग रहा था वह डरा-डरा।अ पू को ऐसा लग रहा था जैसे उसके पेट के अंदर ही कूद-फाँद कर रहा हो बेयसुरा।

कुछ देर बाद ज़मीन का हलना थम गया। द दा ने सोचा क ज़रा दो मनट ठहर कर देख ल क कह ज़मीन फर से न डोल उठे। ले कन अब तक सबकुछ पहले जैसा जमा-जमा ठहरा-ठहरा लगने लगा था। ज़मीन का हलना-डुलना बंद हो चुका था!

सारे पलंग के नीचे से बाहर नकल आये। "अब हम बाहर चल सकते ह," द दा ने कहा।

" या अब हम ज द से बाहर जाने क ज़ रत नह है?" अ पू ने पूछा।

"तभी जब तु ह पता हो क बाहर जाने का रा ता ब त पास हो," द दा ने बताया। "अगर तुम ऊपर के तल पर हो, या कसी मज़बूत इमारत म हो, तो कसी मेज़ या मज़बूत पलँग केनीचे छुप जाओ। और उसके पाये पकड़ लो ता क वह तुमसे जाये न र।कुछ न मले तो कमरे के कसी कोने म बक जाओ, और खड़ कय -दरवाज़ से रहो र। य कब ब और पंखे जैसी चीज़ गर कर तु हारे ऊपर, हो सकती ह चकनाचूर।"

अ पू, द दा, पया और भोलू अपने घर से नकले बाहर।मुंडेर से कुछ गमले गर कर ए थे चकनाचूर और बेकार।और घर क बाहरी द वार चटकने से पड़ गयी थी दरार।

लोग सड़क पर जमा थे, और आपस म कर रहे थे एक ही बात, क कब तक रह घर से बाहर, कैसेबीतेगी रात?

अ पू ने एक गरा आ पौधा उठाया। उसने बखरी म के ढेर पर हाथ रखा।और धरती को दलासा देते ए वादा कया, "अब कभी तु हारे लए इतना डरावना दन नह आयेगा,

य क अब कभी बेयसुरा इतने बेढब सुर म नह गायेगा।"

या वा तव म बेयसुरा के गाने के कारण धरती डोली थी?

नह , भूकंप तो तब से आते रहे ह जब से पृ वी है। जब पृ वी ह नया-नया बना ही था, तब भी धरती हला करती थी।

पृ वी क सबसे ऊपरी पत यानी जो म और प थर-च ान ह, जसपर पेड़-पौधे और जीव-जंतु बसे ह, उसे ' ट' कहते ह। इसके काफ़ नीचे सरी पत हैजसे 'म ल' कहते ह। इसके अलावा अंद नी और बाहरी कोर भी होते ह। ट और म ल कई टुकड़

म बटे ए ह ज ह 'टे टॉ नक ले स' कहते ह। वै ा नक ने जाँच-पड़ताल करके टे टॉ नक ले स का सही न शा बना लया है।

ये ले स धरती क सतह के नीचे ब त गहराई म होती ह, और म ल क सतह पर ब त धीरे-धीरे खसकते ए एक- सरे से रगड़ खाती रहती ह।

कभी-कभी ये ले स एक सरे से अड़ती ह और इनके खसकने म कावट पैदा होती है। तब इन पर दबाव बढ़ने लगता है। दबाव यादा बढ़ जाने पर ले सजब अचानक फर से खसकनी शु होती ह तब दबाव बढ़ने से जमा ई ऊजा ट म बलकुल वैसे ही फैलती है जैसे पानी म कंकड़ गरने से पैदा होने वालीलहर। इस तरह आता है भूकंप!

जस जगह दो ले स आपस म रगड़ खाती ह, वै ा नक उसे फ़ोकस कहते ह। जब क उसके ठ क ऊपर ज़मीन क सतह को 'ए पसटर’ कहते ह।

ये परत देखने म कैसी ह गी, आप इस च मदेख सकते ह। 1. ट2. म ल3. कोर भूकंप क तेज़ी नापने वाली मशीन का नाम हैसी मो ाफ़ जो कसी भूकंप क ती ता कोर टर केल पर बताता है। इस पैमाने पर 1 से

3 तक क ती ता वाले भूकंप हलके होते ह,जनसे ब त कम नु सान होता है, जब क 4

से 6 ती ता वाले भूकंप म यम दज के होते हजनसे कम नु सानहोता है, और 7 से 10

ती ता वाले भूकंप ब त तेज़ होते ह औरइनसे भारी तबाही मचती है।

तो भारत और नया भर म कहाँ-कहाँ आ सकते ह भूकंप? भारत म ज मू और क मीर, हमाचल देश और उ राखंड म हमालय क मझोली और ऊँची चो टय वाले इलाक के अलावा बहार के कुछ ह स ,और गजुरात म क छ का रण उन इलाक म आता है जहाँ सबसे तेज़ भूकंप आने क संभावना रहती ह।

द ली, महारा , अंडमान और नकोबार प समूह म भी देश के सरे ह स के मुकाबले यादा भूकंप आते ह। इन इलाक म यादा भूकंप इस लएआते ह य क धरती के जस टुकड़े पर भारत है, वह बाक ए शया क ओर बढ़ रहा है, जसक वजह से जोड़ वाले इन इलाक म दबाव बना जाताहै। ऐसी जगह जहाँ यादा भूकंप आते ह, हाई सी मक ज़ोन कहलाती ह। (पृ 21 पर देख)

नया म जापान, इंडोने शया, इटली, टक , चली, अला का और अमे रका के कै लफॉ नया इलाके म भी समय-समय पर वनाशकारी भूकंप आते रहेह।

या कर जब धरती डोले

1. घबराए ँनह ।

2. अगर आप कसी ऊँची या मज़बूत इमारत के अंदर ह तो फ़ौरन कसी मज़बूत मेज़ के नीचे घुस जाए ँऔर उसे कस कर पकड़े रह। ऐसी चीज़ सेर रह जो टूटकर आपके ऊपर गर सकती ह। अगर दरवाज़ा ब त मज़बूत हो तभी उसके पास जाय, वरना दरवाज़ से र ही रह।

3. अगर आप कसी जजर या पुरानी इमारत म ह या इमारत से बाहर जाने का रा ता पास हो, तब ज द से, ले कन बना हड़बड़ाए बाहर नकलजाए।ँ

4. भूकंप आने पर अगर आप घर से बाहर ह तो इमारत , बजली के खंभ और द वार से र कसी खुली जगह म चले जाए।ँ

5. अगर पहाड़ी इलाके म ह , तो भूकंप आने पर कसी बड़ी च ान क आड़ म रह ता क उँचाई से दरक कर आने वाले प थर- म के मलबे मदबने के ख़तरे से बचे रह।
