FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK:Dear Acharians (Readers),

We are delighted to present our Autumn issue of Acharya Samachar: we sincerely worked to bring out this issue to a decent standard. We do acknowledge there is an immense scope to make it better, and we will strive to make it thoroughly enjoyable.

The Autumn issue has focused on the diversity of the Acharya Institutes. It was possible by pooling our budding multimedia skills among us (page layout, designing, reporting, photography, sub-editing). It is titled ‘Acharya: A world’ which reflects on where we are. It is an opportunity for us to experience the cultural diversity, and relish the harmony and make friends from one’s own district in the country to overseas students (who had come from Africa and Middle East to whom we have to demonstrate the spirit of Atithi Devo Bhava - guest is equivalent to God, Acharya Campus has 12 institutions teaching psychology and pharmacy to mining and mechanical engineering and many more. It enables more than 10,000 students from 66 countries across the world to gain educational, cultural and life-enriching skills to sports.

The Campus is green, and clean; it adds the serenity of learning, and experiencing life in various aspects of life. And, we all have the responsibility to keep our surroundings in and out of the Campus clean and green, and to contribute at the grassroots level to Swachh Bharat or Clean India. Acharya Samachar is an in-house magazine exclusively brought out by the students of Department of Journalism and Mass Communications (BA & MA).

This is our maiden attempt to bring in this format, and we did our best to bring out like this. We would like to assure you that in the coming issues there will be more to report, key issues to analyze and keep you updated about what is happening here, and elsewhere.

Acharians, we promise you, the next issue (which will be in your hands before Christmas, and New Year 2016), will be packed with snippets of information; as we say, news has educational and informational value.

If you’ve something to share (a poem, a feature, a news (nosy) item, photographs), please email us: [email protected] or drop in to have a chat with us at our department in AIGS block.

“The Empress Story”After motherhood, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan hits the ramp

Double Barrel: An experimental filmBy Subin P K

Written & Directed By: Lijo Jos PelliseryLanguage: MalayalamMusic: Prashanth PillaiCinematography: Abinandhan RamanujamStarring: Prithwi Raj, Indrajith, Aarya, Asif Ali, Sunny Wayne, Swathi ReddyProduced by Prithwiraj, Shaji Nadesan, Santhosh Sivan and Aarya Banner: August filmsRating: 3/5

Double Barrel is a hit film. It is a multi-starrer and an experimental film, for the first time in Malayalam. It's a gangster spoof with a comical touch. It is inspired by graphic novels and gangster comedy movies. The plot revolves around a group of gangsters fighting for two stones “Laila-Majnu”, with other gangs. Prithwiraj and Indrajith who plays the gamblers Pancho and Vinci have done a great job. Swathi Reddy has done complete justice to her role. Cinematography and background score deserves a special applause but the songs fail to impress the audience, so is editing which is drab. For every movie freak, Double Barrel is a must to watch.

Power (current) is a source of everything for everything in cities. There are electricity cuts in Bengaluru for 4-6 hour power-cuts. It is annoying to see this happening in Bengaluru which is the IT Hub and capital of Karnataka. However government and BESCOM officials had hinted that there will be power-cuts for around 2-3 hours in a day. It has become worse and there are unscheduled power-cuts which is affecting productivity and efficiency. Many are suffering because of this especially the industries and IT sector that are dependent on power. It is noticeable that it began after the BBMP elections in which the ruling Congress party did not fare well.

Method

1. Cook the rice separately and keep it aside. Spread it on a tray to ensure that the grains dont stick to each other.2. Heat little oil (2 tsp) in a pan and splutter the ingredients under 'for tempering'.3. Add the chopped onions, green chilly and fry for 2-3 minutes. 4. Add turmeric powder and the grated carrot and fry for another 2-3 minutes.5. Toss in the rice and add required salt. (If you are in a hurry you could stop with this but I like to go further and add some more flavoring.)6. Heat 1 tsp of oil in a small pan and fry the ingredients under 'for masala' until it turns nice and golden brown.7. Coarsely grind it and toss this powder along with the rice. This adds nice flavor and crunch to the rice.8. Garnish with ribbons of carrot and finely chopped cilantro and serve with some raita. Tips - You could also squeeze the juice of half a lime and a pinch of garam masala while tossing the rice.

Food joints to lighten your pockets By Poornima Ramesh & Abhisha Khajuria

Hungry? Bored of the same old food? Are you in the mood for trying out some clean and less-expensive food joints? Acharya Samachar explored the eateries around the campus.

Hot Corns

It's a favorite eat-out for students. Hot Corns has been serving sandwiches, corn and flavoured soda for 7 years. As it is within the campus students find it as the best place to eat during their break-time. “I come here for Sweet Jaljeera Soda and Corn Cheese Sandwich. It's very tasty," says Shankar, a Diploma student. Sweet corns come in different flavors and refreshing flavored soda is available in the price range of Rs 10 and Rs 20. One can grab sandwiches in the price range of Rs 25-35. This is definitely a pocket-friendly with a yummy quotient! Sharma Punjabi Restaurant

The food here will leave your taste buds tingling. Students living in PGs' and hostels prefer Sharma Punjabi dhaba for the tasty Chole batura, Chicken biryani, Kaju masala, Chilly chicken and Shahi paneer which tops list of their preference. If you wish to try a beverage after a heavy Punjabi meal, then Lassi is waiting for you. Sachin, an Engineering student says, “I come here regularly with my friends for lunch and dinner. Prices are affordable and food is served fresh." So now you know where to find that spicy Punjabi food for your lunch!

Al-Baiek Family Restaurant

Most students find it as the best place to hang out and spend time with their buddies. It's quite a peaceful place, with variety of milkshakes to choose from. Kamini, an architecture student told us that she comes here often with her friends as the place is spacious to chill-out yet not burning her wallet. The restaurant also supplies cakes and pastries for birthdays and parties. Breakfast and meal are also served: noodles, rolls and milkshakes are the ones to be tasted, which leaves you wanting for some more!

Delhi Darbar RestaurantDelhi Darbar serves both veg and non-veg cuisine. The chole batura and paratha served here is the best. "I love both veg and non-veg varieties served here. The taste is excellent, my seniors and lecturers referred me to this place," says Raghav, a BSc student. The place is mostly filled with students and faculty of Acharya. The food served here is worth for the price. Meal for two approximately costs around Rs 100 which is a pleasant surprise in this expensive era. A wide range of parathas is a must to taste. They serve a variety of parathas like aloo paratha, onion paratha, mix paratha, paneer paratha and many more. If you prefer having non-veg, there is an unending options to choose from. Chicken Mughlai, French Chicken, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Rasaa seem to be the hot favorites. You can find Delhi Darbar Restaurant right opposite to the campus, which not only saves money but also the energy (time).
