10. Hu Yimin organizing chair of AOCMP 2012 presented summary of AOCMP 2012 in conjunction
with WC2012.
- He explained why he couldn’t organize AOCMP2012 separately. AOCMP 2012 program was
included in WC2012 program instead of separate program. It was provided special session
for AFOMP members in conjunction with WC2012 program
- Kwan Hg Ng, President of AFOMP suggested holding AOCMP 2012 separately within 2012.
- A. Krisanachinda suggested holding AOCMP 2012 in conjunction with SECOMP 2012, in
Chiang Mai, Thailand during December 11 ~13.
- The Council members agreed to hold AOCMP 2012 in Chiang Mai in conjunction with
SECOMP 2012.
11. James C L Lee, organizing chair of AOCMP 2013 presented the progress report of AOCMP 2013
which will be held in Singapore in conjunction with SECOMP 2013.
12. EOI for AOCMP 2014
- The EOI for AOCMP 2014 was announced at April 10, 2012. No country submitted its EOI
for AOCMP 2014 by the dead line.(May 19, 2012) The Council members decided to re-
announce EOI for AOCMP 2014 and choose hosting country in Chiang Mai.
13. AFOMP Officer Election
- Tae Suk Suh, Secretary General of AFOMP presented the status of nomination for AFOMP
officers.(2012-2015)
- There was only nomination for AFOMP Vice President.
- There was no nomination for AFOMP Secretary General and Treasurer by the official dead
line.
- AFOMP Council members decided to re-announce the nomination for Secretary General and
Treasurer and choose AFOMP Officers at AFOMP Council Meeting in Chiang Mai.
This meeting was adjourned at 17:30 pm

Asia-Oceania Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (AFOMP)
May 26, 2012
First I like to thank all the excom members and the various committee members who have been working hard to sustain AFOMP. I would like to thank Prof Suh especially for manning the secretariat for all those years.
AFOMP on-line symposium on medical physics had 18 lectures until October 2011.This is a pilot project of the AFOMP School of Medical Physics.I thank Dr. Milton Woo for organizing this so faithfully and also the various lecturers who gave their time so generously.
The president was invited to be the keynote speaker First International Joint Conference of the Thai Society of Radiological Technologists (TSRT) and Korean Radiological Technologists Association (KRTA) at Cha-am, Thailand, 26 to 28 April 2012. I emphasized the importance of radiographers/technologists and medical physicists working as a team.
Finally, we need to seek a quick solution for the 13 thAOCMP which is supposed to be held in Beijing in conjunction with the World Congress.

Secretary General’s report
1. Report in 11th AOCMP at Fukuoka, Japan
The 11th AOCMP was held in the beautiful city of Japan during September 29 - October 1, 2011.

ExCom/Council meeting.
4. Awards and Honors committee
AFOMP Council approved Award & Honors committee (Chair: Kin Yin Cheung) as one of the official
AFOMP subcommittees. (Annex 5)
5. Travel award report
The four awardees of 11th AOCMP travel award sent their 11th AOCMP travel reports. (Annex 6) These
reports should be published in AFOMP newsletter.
6. AFOMP Subscription and Payment details (Annex 7)

Election of AFOMP officers (2012-2015) was announced to invite nominations from official delegates or
an individual of AFOMP member organization on 23th April 2012. (Annex 8)

Bid team for WC2018 (Singapore) asked AFOMP president to write a letter of support for the bid of
WC2018. (Annex 9)
9. AFOMP homepage

The AFOMP homepage has been managed by New AFOMP webmaster Mrs. Sun-Mi Kim.
(2) New AFOMP website
New website has been developed by Korean Web-company with the donation of USD 4,500 from Dr. Tae
Suk Suh, Catholic University of Korea. The website design and security of board has been improved.

Call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) to Host the 14th Asia-Oceania Congress of Medical Physics (AOCMP) in 2014
The Asia-Oceania Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (AFOMP) is now receiving “Expressions of Interest” from Asia-Oceania countries to host the Asia-Oceania Congress of Medical Physics to be held in 2014.
CONGRESS HISTORYAFOMP held the first meeting in Bangkok and has moved the site of the Congress around the Asia-Oceania countries.

REPORT ON THE RECENTLY CONCLUDED 11TH ASIA-OCEANIA CONGRESS OF
MEDICAL PHYSICS (AOCMP)

Medical Physics is considered a fast growing field in the Asian region. This is due to the
emerging recognition of its importance in medicine, health, and science. As it develops, the
demand for additional number of qualified medical physicists in the region is also increasing.
In order to meet this increasing demand, training and education play an important role of
producing qualified medical physicists in the region. Aside from the medical physics graduate
programs offered in some Asian countries, further trainings are needed to ensure continued
development of practicing medical physicists.
The AOFOMP has been working very hard to address this emerging need of training and
education. The Asia-Oceania Congress of Medical Physics is a great venue of learning and
sharing new information and recent advances of medical physics. The comprehensive set of
scientific activities such as lecture symposium, workshops from invited speakers, as well as oral
and poster presentations, are very helpful in providing additional knowledge and developing
more skills for the participants.
Aside from educational growth, one of the considered highlights of the congress is the
experience of meeting other medical physicists and medical professionals from different part of
the world.
These are the things that I’ve learned from the recently concluded 11 th AOCMP in Fukuoka,
Japan. I am very thankful and honoured to attend this activity. I learned new things and I am
going to present my experience to my Filipino colleagues in our next national scientific meeting.

11 th Asia Oceania Congress of Medical Physics (AOCMP) in Fukuoka,Japan

Introduction The profession of medical physicist has a contribution not only to patient care, but also the to the ongoing development of new tools and techniques to
improve medical diagnosis and treatment. Up grading and progressing in medical physics science are key elements to develop in the medical physics practice,
particularly for medical physicist in developing countries. To provide a good standard of medical physics service and supervision.
Medical physicist is one of the key person to improve healthcare in diagnostic imaging,radiation therapy and nuclear medicine. Medical physicist from
developing countries have a challenge to build the infrastructures and the equipment, to improve a qualified professionals and to develop education and training
programs. There is a wide medical physics knowledge gap between medical physicist from developing countries, compared to medical physicist from developed
country. One of the solution to solve this problem is a medical physics forum discussion between medical physicist from developed countries and medical physicist
from developing countries.
The economic situation and the financial resources in developing countries cause a lack of equipment and lack of training program to support their skill
especially in medical physics program. Availability of diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy facilities are usually concentrated in the capital cities. That’s why, a
medical physicist from developing countries is still below the professional level required support to diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy. Training and education
and application of standard diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy techniques also can improve a healthcare in developing countries.
The limitation of professional medical physicists in the developing countries cause a gap in transfer of knowledge and technology. The number of
qualified medical physicists in the developing countries is low compared to developed countries.
National medical physics societies in the developing countries should establish accredited education and training programs in collaboration with IOMP, AFOMP or
other regional societies.
Providing high quality medical physicists in clinical practice is needed in the developing countries. National medical physics societies can be a
communication media with the authorities. Training and education for medical physicists are important to support a high quality medicsl physicists in developing
countries. Continuing efforts are needed bridging the gap between medical physicists from the developing countries and medical physicists from the developed
countries.
Under these circumstances, this congress provides a platform to exchange knowledge, share experience and discuss challenges and solutions to existing
problems known in the field of Medical Physics.

Asia-Oceania Congress of Medical Physics, Fukuoka, Japan, 2011 :
I will get a great experience to up grade my information related to medical physics development in Asia Oceania region. It will increase my knowledge and my skill to participate in conducting research the development of advanced radiotherapy techniques in Indonesia. Teaching and sharing the topics in 11th Asia-Oceania Congress of Medical Physics, Fukuoka, Japan, 2011 to other collegues,doctors, and others to accelerate modern technology radiation therapy in Indonesia as a developing country.
The topics in 11th Asia-Oceania Congress of Medical Physics, Fukuoka, Japan, 2011 are : Imaging is a key performance for radiation therapy.
Knowledge about education and training of Medical Physicits based on IOMP prespective.
Development of medical physics in Asia Pasific ( such as: Medical physics aspects of cancer care in Asia Pasific regions and AFOMP Policy Statement).
Current status of Medical Physics in Korea, Japan.
New technology in medical imaging.
Sharing and discussion with medical physicist from the other country.
Adding knowledge forum related to the development of medical physics.
New information about the radiation effect in Fukushima, China and Korea.
New technology in IMRT, radiobiological modeling, and imaging.
Discussion with other medical physicists in oral and poster session.
Development of medical physics researchs in Asia Oceania in young investigation symposium.
Department of Radiotherapy, Cipto Mangunkusumo, National General Hospital, Jakarta, is one of the biggest Department of Radiotherapy in Indonesia which have a modern radiotherapy equipment and clinical application technology in radiotherapy such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (SRT).
I would hope the experience that I’ve got in this Congress on Medical Physics can develop and acceleracy a new modality technology and research in radiotherapy, and particularly in Indonesia.

INVITATION TO NOMINATE
AFOMP Council will elect the following Officers by means of a ballot (not via email) at Annual AFOMP Council
Meeting to be held in May 2012 at Beijing, China. The date for AFOMP Council Meeting will be announced soon.

According to our “election rule (Appendix I)”, which was approved by AFOMP delegates in 2003, nominations
are invited from the official delegates or an individual of AFOMP member organization and second by an official
delegate or an individual of another AFOMP member organization. Names and required information should be sent
to the Secretary-General and President of AFOMP by May 18th 2012, using the “Nomination Form” attached,
together with biographical details (maximum 4 pages) including a personal statement by the nominee which should
include their plans for the post.
The AFOMP Executive Committee (AFOMP ExCom) shall assume the role of the nominating committee. The
suitable nominations by individuals or national bodies are accepted. However, if too many nominations should be
made, AFOMP ExCom act as a preliminary filter. The names and biographical details of selected nominees will be
circulated to delegates before the voting.
Any questions about the election procedure should be sent to the Secretary-General or President as chair of the
Nominating Committee.

Election of Executive Officers of AFOMP- Election Rule
1 The current Executive Committee (EC) shall assume the role of the nomination and
election committee
2 Nomination of candidate is open for all the offices of the EC.
3 If there is no nomination for a particular office, the EC shall propose a nomination.
4 If the number of nomination for a particular office exceeds 4, the EC shall act as a
preliminary filter.
5 Nominations can be made by the official delegate or an individual of an AFOMP member
organization and seconded by an official delegate or an individual of another AFOMP
member organization.
6 Nomination should be made in writing by email, fax or post to the President on or before
the specified date.
7 Every nominee shall agree to the nomination and be willing to stand for the election.
8 Every nominee shall submit biographical details of himself/herself for circulation to
member organizations.
9 Each proposer can only nominate one candidate for each office.
10 Each proposer can nominate the candidate(s) for more than one office.
11 Nomination of a candidacy for a particular office at the election floor can be accepted only
if the number of candidate for that particular office does not exceed four.
12 Only official delegates of AFOMP member organizations are allowed to vote.
13 Voting by proxy can be accepted.

Organizing Asia-Oceania Network for Medical Physics Schools (AOMPS) and seminars enhance the education, competence and continuing professional development of Medical Physics across Asia-Oceania in collaboration with scientific committee.
Understanding and Assisting for the organization of the Asia-Oceania School of Medical Physics

Report of the AFOMP Professional Development Committee 2011
1) The following AFOMP policy was developed by the PDC and was published in Australasian Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine. It is available on line at DOI 10.1007/s13246-011-0091-3
AFOMP Policy Statement No. 3: recommendations for the education and training of medical physicists in AFOMP countries
2) The committee is developing an AFOMP policy on ‘Continuing Professional Development for Medical Physicists in AFOMP Countries’. A survey of medical physics systems was carried out by Howell Round and has been accepted for publication in Physica Medica (Continuing professional
development systems for medical physicists: A global survey and analysis doi:10.1016/j.ejmp.2012.03.006) to inform the committee when developing the policy.
3) At the 2012 World Congress in Beijing a session on CPD systems will be held and a meeting of the Committee will be held to discuss and further develop the policy.

Report by Chair Science Committee
1. The SC has made contribution in forming the scientific programs for endorsed or sponsored
meetings of WC2012. It also helps to recommend/select chair persons/speakers for the meetings.
2. The SC has made contribution in applying the establishment of the IOMP travel award for WC2012
and the selection of the awardees. 83% of the awardees are from Asian countries (10 of total 12 ).
3. The SC has supplied information about the scientific activities of Medical Physics in Asia and
Oceania area to IOMP.
4. The SC has made contribution in helping some Asian countries to bid for holding International

A. Status of AFOMP dues collection.
1．Effort to collect AFOMP dues has been continued since the method was agreed by EXCOM in 2009
2. Collected AFOMP dues is the amount of USD 4,844 at the time of February 10, 2012.
3．We have to cooperate with IOMP to continue the collection by method described in Report of
AFOMP Funding Committee presented at the last AFOMP council meeting on 2011/09/24.
B. Status of cultivation of new AFOMP corporate membership
1. Several accesses to companies have been tried, but they are not successful so far due to economical
depression of global scale.
2. Intensive trial especially to Japanese companies has been continued. But big earthquake, tsunami and
power cut due to accident of nuclear power plant made manufacturers very awkward, and refrained from
donation nor participation to corporate membership.
3. Effort to recruit new Corporate Membership will be continued. (Present target is Mr. Tom Duffy of
Varian Associates in the territory of Asia-Oceania in Beijing.)
C. IOMP grant proposition
1. Report of IOMP grant in the past was drafted by Inamura. Immediately after approval by AFOMP
EXCOM on
2012/05/27 in Beijing, the formal one will be sent to IOMP.
2. New proposition in the years of 2012 to 2013 will be prepared in the condition that Committee of
ETC, PDC and/or SC
present plan for their activity.

In 2007, grant application was submitted to IOMP (see attached document No.1) and US$5,000 was transferred to AFOMP (attached document No.2) in 2008.
The grant was used mainly for visitations described as follows. A part of the money was paid to visits made even before money transfer retrospectively. “Expected Start Date: Oct. 2007” is seen in attached document No.1. A part of activities was begun even before the grant application was submitted to IOMP.
1. Visit to Mekong Delta in 2007 Record of visit is described in Attached document No.3, and the result of research is described
in Attached document No.4.
2. Visit to Choray Hospital in 2007 This visit was made for preparation of AOCR 2008 and for seeking for establishment of
Vietnam Society of Medical Physics. See attached document No.5.
3. Visit to Bangladesh in 2010 Repot is shown in Attached document No.6.
4. Training courses programmed and carried out as pre-conference events in international conferences such as AOCMP/SEACOMP held in Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chin Minh, Chiang Mai, Taipei and Fukuoka in years between 2007 and 2011. Supporting documents are self- explanatory programs of each Conference.
The detail of payment for above visits and expenses are recorded in email correspondence and treasurers reports, but these are not included in this report. They are to be displayed on demand.
