    OBJECTIVES OF FCI

    1. To act as an main AGENCY OFGOVERNMENT for handling FOOD-GRAINS.

    2. To PROCURE FOOD-GRAINS on behalfof Govt. of India.

    3. To act as MARKETING AGENCY in thecountry.

    4. To serve the interests of both theFARMERS and CONSUMERS.

    5. To provide REMUNERATIVE PRICE tofarmers for his PRODUCE.

    6. To supply regularly food grains toVULNERABLE SECTIONS of Society(Poor People) all over the country at

    REASONABLE and subsidised PRICE.

    FUNCTIONS OF FCI

    The Main Functions of FCI are as under :-

    1. To procure Food-grains and otherAgricultural Commodities at incentive prices

    from the Farmers on behalf of Central andState Govts.

    2. To make timely releases of the stock throughthe PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM (PDS)

    i.e. Fair Price Shops and Controlled itemsShops for consumers, especially to poorpeople in REMOTEST CORNERS of thecountry.

    3. To set-up a PURCHASING andDISTRIBUTION net-work to minimizeseasonal price fluctuations in the market.

    4. To build-up and keep a SIZEABLE BUFFERSTOCK OF FOOD-GRAINS to meet thesituations that may arise as a result ofSHORT-FALLS IN INTERNAL

    PROCUREMENT and Imports (for FOODSECURITY).

    Buffer-stock is maintained to meet-out theunforeseen situations like :- Low Production of Food grains.

    Natural Calamities (Flood, Drought, War etc.). Crop Failure ( 1965-66 and 1966-67 in India)

    and there was shortage of food grains(Scarcity) in these two years.

    It gave momentum to have GREENREVOLUTION.
