    In January 2010, it was announced that the BangladeshTelecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) hadgiven Bharti Airtel the go ahead to acquire a 70% stakein the Bangladesh business of Abu Dhabi based WaridTelecom.

    The latter had till date invested a total of $600 million,with plans to bring their Bangladesh investments to the$1 billion mark. Airtel's 70% stake in the company issaid to be at a cost of an initial $300 million. The service

    is being operated under the brand name Warid Telecom.

    Warid Telecom covers the entire country and has over2.5 million customers.
