President’s Letter Greetings from Hanover! It’s a bittersweet

time for our sisterhood, as the ’09 class is graduating, the ‘11s are gearing up for sophomore summer, and the ‘10s prepare for their senior year. We had a wonderful spring term, thanks to all our marvelous sisters who put in a lot of time and energy to make this the best possible spring.

Ashley Cartagena ’10, Programs VP, did an amazing job with offering us with a variety of different programs, from an amazing outdoor retreat, to taco dinners and s’more making with other Greek houses. fundraising individual, raising over $2,000 herself. Our Housing Decorations Committee met

weekly with the Dean of Residential Life to decorate and furnish our new house. We are very grateful that ORL has allowed us to be so involved in the decorating of 17 E Wheelock, and we are very eager to make it our own in the fall! We intend to have many housewarming events in the fall, particularly during Homecoming for the alumni, so if you are visiting Hanover please stop by and see our beautiful new home.

Our chapter was very proud to receive several awards at the annual Order of Omega Awards ceremony this April. Alpha Xi Delta received the 15 Webster Avenue Award for our service project, the Haven Aspirations, and received an honorable mention for Commitment to Accountability. Additionally, three of our individual members were recognized at the ceremony. Lauren Hartz ’09 received the Order of Omega Scholarship award, Janie Scull ‘09 received an award for her Commitment to Leadership, and Jessica Lane ’09 was awarded the Greek Leader of Distinction Award, as well as an award for her Commitment to Leadership.

To the ‘11s—have a great sophomore summer! To the ‘09s—congratulations! Good luck in your future endeavors. We will miss you! I hope everyone has a great summer!

Relay for Life

At the annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life event, Alpha Xi Delta continued to dominate the fundraising. Every year, Alpha Xis have a strong showing. Last year, we tied for first undergraduate team with Alpha Phi. We participated in weekly challenges to raise the most in a week, or to have the most team members by the end of a week, and the like.

17 East Wheelock In the Fall of 2009, Alpha Xi Delta will be moving into their new physical plant. Situated next to the East Wheelock cluster, the new house will house 22 girls, 15 10s and 7 11s. We feel very fortunate that we are not only moving into our new house this fall, but also that the college is allowing us to play a huge role in deciding the interior design. The housing decorations committee has been actively working to select paint colors, tiling, and furniture as well as ensuring that our house looks as good inside as it does outside.

our beautiful home

The Panhellenic Council has had a very busy spring term! First, let me offer my congratulations to our very own Michelle Chan ’10 and Ashley Cartagena ‘10 who serve on the Panhellenic Council Executive Board as the VP Membership and VP Public Relations respectively. This term we have gone through the process of extension. Kappa Delta and Delta Zeta were invited to present to the Dartmouth community and interest group. In the end, we invited Kappa Delta to join the Greek community here at Dartmouth. Kappa Delta will form a colony over summer term and will participate in fall recruitment with all of the other houses. We also offered stacked extension to Delta Zeta. That means once Kappa Delta is an established and flourishing chapter, Delta Zeta will be asked to come to Dartmouth without going through the formal process of extension. Judging by how long it took for Alpha Phi to become established, this will likely be three years from now. It is very exciting to see the Greek system continue to expand and to see the gap between the numbers of sororities beginning to close.

I am also very pleased to announce that this term saw the creation ofa Panhellenic Council Scholarship. The Panhellenic Council realizes that the current economic situation effects everyone, we created this scholarship to help make sororities affordable to everyone. Each term, one member of each sorority will receive a $50 scholarship to help towards payment of dues. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of financial need and how active the sister is in the house.

Recruitment always seems to take center stage spring term and this year was no different. Panhell held rush info sessions and hosted a Greek Info Week Panels to help any girls interested in joining the Greek system feel more comfortable and knowledgeable. Panhellenic Council, along with all the sororities, sponsored a Think Pink barbeque with musical performances by on-campus groups to raise money for breast cancer research. AZDs also enjoyed going to the Sister Mixer lunches at the Canoe Club and participating in the Flag Football tournament.

TFJ,

Sarah Carden

Financial Updates

Alpha Xi Delta has been financially stable throughout the downturn of the economy. Our dues will remain the same for next year and we have been able to increase scholarship for our sisters. We are looking forward to added savings on events like rush when we move into our house in the fall. We hope to put this money towards hosting more events at 17 W Wheelock and subsidizing a larger part of formal. We have also added to our budget a small subsidy to Bigs during Big/Little week to help with those costs. We are also very excited to be working with our Housing Corporation and look forward to the purchases they will be making for our house. We thank them also for the housewarming gift of our 2008-2009 composite!

Margaret Thering 05 Says… Hi. I graduated from Columbia Law School in May. After graduation, I traveled around the country visiting friends and family in Chicago, Philadelphia, North Carolina, Atlanta, Cabo, Buffalo, Ft. Campbell, Nashville, Dollywood, and D.C. I moved from NYC to LA in August. I began working at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, and Flom in Los Angeles in September. I was admitted to the California Bar in December so I'm officially a lawyer now. While in LA, I've hung out with Karin Edwardson '05, Erin Emery '06, Cindy Garcia '05, and Alex Garcia '05.

Jenna Harris 06 Says… Here is a photo of a bunch of sisters at a housewarming party in Boston. The condo belongs to Stephanie Nguyen (would have been Dartmouth 06 but transferred to Emmanuel in her second year) Brittany Beth and I came up to the party from New York and Philadelphia respectively. It was a pleasant surprise to see the other girls at the party and we took these. The following people are pictured.

.:: Winter Alumni Updates! ::. Anna Nika 01 says… (photo on left) The baby's name is Christian Tyler Mengel and he is now 7 and a half months. He is sosososo big and has 2 littl bottom front teeth nubs that are so cute.

Sarah Sliva says… For your updates: this past November, my husband Steve and I adopted two laborador retriever puppies (photo enclosed). Ellie (chocolate) and Summit (black) are about 6 months now. We love to take them hiking and snowshoeing!

Sarah Honorowski Mohr 01 Says… My husband & I are happily enjoying parenthood. It's hard to believe our daughter, Marie Elise, almost 6 months now! I have stopped teaching middle school to be a full time mom and LOVE it. Marie & I are taking advantage of all LA has to offer - Mom & Baby cooking, yoga, Spanish, & Sign Language classes!

Spring 2009:

Alumni Updates!

Rebecca Aledort ’04: Katie Walters 04 got married to Ian Marenna (Harvard 00) in PA. Soh Won Cha 04 and Christina Poulsen 04 were bridesmaids and Lauren Kingsley Dunn 04, Jennifer Roberts 04 and I (Rebecca Aledort 04) were at the wedding.

Suzanne Decker ’01 :

My son Henry Walter Decker was born March 23. He

was 10lbs2oz.

Sara Alexander ’99 : I hope that things are going well and you guys have survived a year in Hitchcock! That must have been interesting to say the least. I am very excited to come up to see the new house when it is done! My news is that I had a baby on May 7, 2009! Her

name is Emily June Alexander and she weighed 7lbs,

9oz. and was 19 inches long!

Marina McClure ‘04: My news is that I will be starting an MFA in Directing at the California Institute of the Arts this fall, and thus relocating to LA in September. Also, in addition to causing general DC mayhem, Ellie Smith '04 and I recently ran the Cherry Blossom 10 miler and had a wonderful time! Julia Brant '04 came to cheer us on (and join in for a few miles.)

Samantha Schilling ’05: I graduated from University of Pennsylvania, School of Medicine and I'm starting my residency in Pediatrics at

the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia on June 15!! Very exciting. Also, I got married May 23 to a wonderful man I met in med school, Jonathan Dunkman. Don't have a lot of great photos yet but am attaching two. The wedding was quite small, but there were three fellow AXiDs present: Jessica Smith and Nicki Sass (included in photo) and Elisabeth Kreter.

Alumni Updates, Continued

Rebecca Galemba ’03: I just got my PhD in Anthropology from Brown University this May and will be a lecturer in the Social Studies program at Harvard next year. I will also be teaching a class at Dartmouth for Winter '10 so I hope to

meet some of you on

Caroline Engel ‘05: I graduated from Yale Medical School in May 2009. I am now completing a one-year medicine internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Following which, I will return to Connecticut, to do a four-year radiology residency program at Yale-New Haven Hospital. I would love to catch up with other AZD's in Boston and Connecticut!

Kristin Lieske ‘07 I just finished my second year of law school at Columbia and I am working at Debevoise and Plimpton in NYC this summer

"On a rainy Monday night in Boston, six '05 AZD's met for crepes! (Lauren, Nicki, Alex, Amy, Caroline, Elisabeth)"

Adrian Loehwing ‘01 :

I do indeed have some updates on the '01 alums, as I spent my most recent May Bank Holiday doing what I refer to as "Catch-Up Tour '09". The first stop was Pennsylvania, where I got to meet Audrey Katherine Allen, Shelley (Sandell) Allen's amazingly adorable daughter, born on April 6. As though having a newborn wasn't hard enough, Shelley is doing it while her husband is in Iraq, so I came to lend an extra pair of hands for the weekend. She's doing great though, and Audrey is ridiculously adorable, with the most amazing head of dark hair! Then it was on to Philadelphia, to see Jess Webster, who has just finished up her first year at Wharton. Luckily I managed to catch her before she jetted off on another round-the-world trip, which this time included stops in Seattle, the Galapagos, and about 15 other places before eventually ending up in India, where she will be doing her summer internship for Infosys. After that, I trekked up to New York, where I caught up with Naz Dana, who is still working at Time Inc, but who has taken up the new hobby of cake decorating, doing things with cakes that totally blow my mind. Absolutely amazing stuff, she could open a bakery next... Then surprised the heck out of Kristen Delaney at her surprise 30th birthday party in Brooklyn, who asked, "Aren't you supposed to be in London?" Her fiancee, Austin, had really outdone himself on getting all of her friends and family together, and it was great hearing about plans for the upcoming

wedding. It's going to be another great union of two Dartmouth alumns! (What is it about our school that produces so many great couples?)

Finally, I'm back in London for a bit, although have kept busy with the occasional trek up to Scotland for a marathon (not the whole thing, just 1/4 of it!), side trips to Vienna, and just enjoying European life. The next big trip will be to Boston in mid-July, where I'm hoping I'll be able to catch up with a few more Boston-area AZDs. Anybody who is going to be in town then, please drop me a line!! And of course, if anybody is in London, you always have a place to stay, I absolutely adore having visitors!!
