THE NEARBY MOUNTAINS BECKONED OUR STUDENTS TO EXPLOREOur hosts took the students on a nature hike to explore the nearby moun-tains. It felt a lot like home!

THE MUSICIANS REHEARSE IN THE MUSEUMOur second full day in Târgu Ju was dedicated to musician rehearsal. One of the exhibits in the museum featured a grand piano which was used to re-hearse new collaborations this time including a violin student. On the next day of rehearsals, we had an interview with a local tv news channel.c

GORJ COUNTY MUSEUM ALSO CURATES AN HISTORIC VILLAGE We learned a lot about traditional Romanian architecture, and about life in historic Romania. When we were finished with the tour, we had a wonderful meal on the veranda of the former Prime Minister of Romania’s home. 26

A SHORT STOP TO LEARN ABOUT A FAMOUS SCULPTORIn between stops at the monasteries, we stopped at the birth-place of Constantin Brancusi and learned about his early life and the development of his artistic talent.

OUR TIME AT THE ARTS HIGH SCHOOLWe spent time with the students in the class and then performed the concert with the musicians. Our teachers and artists then did small master classes focusing on improvisation.

BRAN CASTLE, NEAR BRASOVOne of the events that was eagerly anticipated by the students was the trip to Bran Castle. They learned the history of the area and that this castle was a favorite of Queen Maria of Romania. After the tour we enjoyed snacks and warm drinks in the market.

VISIT TO PELES CASTLEWe spent an afternoon touring the Peles Castle which was the favorite of King Carol II. This was designed by a German architect and is filled with ornate artwork and grand halls as well as a performance hall with a pipe organ.

one another.

On one of our last days in Romania, we traveled to the Danube River where it borders Serbia and took a leisurely cruise through the beauti-ful countryside.

CELEBRATING EASTERN ORTHODOX EASTER WITH OUR ROMANIAN FRIENDSWe stayed up late to celebrate the Easter Vigil at the main cathedral in Târgu Jiu and then had a large feast with our friends the following afternoon.

OUR LAST NIGHT IN ROMANIAWe had a bitter-sweet ending to our trip. We were back in Bucharest and had an adventure to find a restaurant and make our plane in the morning. We had a lovely time and met many very nice people on our last night.
