My life has always been involved with ships and the sea. I owned international shipping companies in new Zealand, Japan and the Far east before selling in 2001 and retiring from business.
after 3 years of relaxation I needed to be active once again. It was then that I decided to establish my dream company along with my dream passenger ship. In all honestly, I have never enjoyed business as much as I do these days. we have an outstanding purpose built ship with fabulous destinations that our guests absolutely love to visit. Most importantly we have a superb team of people who love to over-deliver our cruising products in new Zealand and vanuatu. we provide a child-free environment onboard the ship.
Our 2014/2015 brochure presents a selection of the best small ship cruising vanuatu and new Zealand has to offer. For a beautiful one to two week cruise, or perhaps a charter with friends, family or business associates, then please do give us a call.
we welcome you aboard to explore new horizons.Peter BissettFounder/CeO

Romance of Vanuatu
day 1 - dinnerat 5 pm on Sunday we all meet at the Grand Hotel and Casino
on Port vila Harbour. the crew will transfer you by tender to “Island
Passage” waiting at anchor in the Bay. enjoy a welcome aboard
cocktail and let your crew introduce you to the on board delights
of your home for the next 6 nights. During a scrumptious welcome
dinner we leisurely cruise to our overnight anchorage across the
lagoon.
day 2 - Breakfast, lunch, dinnerafter a relaxed start to the morning, a swim and an a la carte
breakfast we head north cruising towards our first destination, the
beautiful Havannah Harbour. the spectacular narrow entrance at
the Hilliard Channel provides great photo opportunities, and we
anchor off our favourite pristine sandy beach at lelepa Island.
experience the stunning snorkelling over the coral; a voyage of
discovery in one of the tenders with the Bosun or beach combing
as the sun goes down. this evening’s dinner will be served under
the stars on the aft deck.
day 3 - Breakfast, lunch, dinneranother glorious day at Havannah and the chance to join one of
our talented fishing guides who will do his utmost to ensure the catch
of your dreams ... amazing tropical tuna, wahoo or Mahi Mahi
which our chefs will prepare for you. lunch is served underway as
we cruise the lengths of the lagoon and get up close and personal
to the beaches surrounded by dense tropical jungle and dramatic
volcanic cliffs. within the lagoon there are numerous atolls fringed
by coral-encrusted shallows. Swimming, snorkeling and fishing will
beckon or join the shore parties to explore the nearby villages.
“Island Passage” will overnight in the harbour and we enjoy the
crew night with a superb BBQ buffet on the aft deck to celebrate a
perfect day in paradise.
day 4 - Breakfast, lunch, dinnertoday is a special scenic treat. after breakfast the helicopter arrives
onto the back of the ship and all guests are taken for a 12 minute
complimentary scenic flight around the islands, beautiful reefs and
volcanoes in the area. this is a great chance for fantastic ariel
photos plus the thrill of the take off and landing on the ships heli-
deck.
we then bid farewell to Havannah and guests that are “hooked”
on the tropical fishing can have another chance today as the
fishing tenders can follow the ship on this morning’s cruise. Our
destination today is Pele Island, however if the conditions permit
then the Captain will make a deviation north to Mataso Island.
totally untouched and remote, this tiny island and reef with its azure
waters and thick tropical forestation is a destination few travellers
ever experience.
day 5 - Breakfast, lunch, dinneranother leisurely start to the day, the landing craft will make trips to
the amazing coral gardens off Pele. During the day the tenders run
a shuttle between the ship and the shore so you can explore this
remote village and get to know the friendly Chief and the people
at your leisure.
this area is known as one of the best snorkeling spots in vanuatu.
the ship’s tenders will be the perfect for exploring such a large
area and underwater highlights will include spectacular drop-offs
and stunning coral gardens. turtles nest on the islands’ volcanic
sand beaches. Jungle walks will reveal the island’s birdlife - and
the afternoon snorkelers are likely to encounter turtles. Fishing is
available, or perhaps swim or walk ashore, or just relax with a
book on the top deck and enjoy the stunning vista. In the early
afternoon we make our way to tranquility Island. tonight the Island
Passage crew farewell you at the Captain’s cocktail party. the last
night aboard is traditionally a fun affair with the guests enjoying a
great night with all their new acquaintances.
day 6 - BreakfastYou wake to the aromas of your last meal aboard being prepared.
“Island Passage” anchors close to the Port vila waterfront that has
many small shops and a local market located next to the waterfront
- perhaps the perfect opportunity to purchase local art and craft or
just soak up the vibrant atmosphere. Make sure you swap addresses
with your fellow adventurers and say your last goodbyes to the
crew. we will transfer you ashore in the tenders at 0900.
there are numerous activities available in vila for your stay. the
tours that operate throughout the island and villages are always
popular. the dining is varied and reasonably priced with selections
ranging from asian, Pacific and French with numerous cafe style
restaurants around the bay. the shopping is also interesting from the
market in town to the numerous duty free opportunities. either way
you will be offered many choices and endless possibilities for your
extended stay in Port vila.

we will show you these amazing islands of northern vanuatu
on this comprehensive 9-night vanuatu Cruise. You will visit
villages that rarely see cruise ships or western civilization.
these cruises visit the world famous Pentecost land divers
(June cruises), the enthralling Rom dances and allow the
opportunity of acquiring wonderful artifacts and carvings
along the way.
day 1 - dinnerFor the early arrivals at Santo airport, you’ll be met and
transferred to the ferry that is waiting to take you to aore
Resort. Once there you are greeted with a welcome
drink and given beach towels which you can use for
the rest of the day. You have the day to relax and use
the resort facilities before our crew meet and transfer
you to the “Island Passage” at 5pm. For later arrivals
you will be taken straight to the ship. Soon after the
7pm departure, dinner is served as the ship heads
around million-dollar point and the beautiful coast of
Santo beckons. welcome to our Paradise.

day 2 - Breakfast, lunch, dinnerthis morning there is the opportunity to snorkel over a fabulous coral
reef only metres from the ship. It’s an unforgettable experience - we
take you up current in the tenders so that you can drift over gardens
of coral that are inhabited by a myriad of tropical fish.
On the same day, you’ll venture up the Riri River in a dugout canoe
to discover the miraculous blue holes – deep, clear freshwater
springs that bubble up into the river. You’ve never seen the colour
blue quite like this. a refreshing swim is almost compulsory! the rest
of your day can include as much activity as you wish: sightseeing
from the tenders; exploring the shoreline; perhaps a trip with one
of our fishing guides. tonight will be spent at anchor off the pristine
beaches of Mavea Island.
day 3 - Breakfast, lunch, dinnerafter enjoying another one of chef’s indulgent breakfasts there’s still
time for a swim or a walk before we up anchor and make our way
north through even more beautiful islands, arriving in Hog Harbour
in the late afternoon. For those onboard keen to experience the thrill
of fishing “tropical style” this is a good opportunity. Our guides in
the fishing tender will shadow the ship up the coast in search of the
game fish that the area is known for. On the right day the results can
be spectacular with tuna, wahoo, and mahi mahi often landed. the
views as we cruise north are unforgettable. If conditions are right
some of our local friends will deliver a basket of local lobster. the
evening sunset brings the day to a close with the Captains Dinner.
day 4 - Breakfast, lunch, dinner today, your cruise adventure will see you landing on world famous
Champagne Beach - said to be the most beautiful beach in the
world - which promises the bluest water, whitest sand and greenest
jungle - it’s just breathtaking. You can swim, sunbathe, snorkel,
kayak and chat with the local pareu sellers. later today we cross
the straits to explore Maewo and Pentecost.
day 5 - Breakfast, lunch, dinnerIn asanvari we meet the village chief. You’ll get a look at the
ni-vanuatu way of life. You’ll also get to know their sense of humour
because smiling and laughing are major pastimes here. You can
watch a custom dance, chat with the locals, and learn how to cook
lap-lap, walk to the village gardens, and visit a beautiful waterfall
or snorkel in the protected lagoon. and make sure you check out
the asanvari Yacht Club. when you arrive back on board, it’s time
for the Captain’s Cocktail Party. tonight we stay at anchor in this
fabulous bay.
day 6 - Breakfast, lunch, dinnerafter breakfast, the ship gets underway to sail south to wali village.
On June sailings we are greeted by the villagers in traditional wear
and led to the edge of the forest where the 60-metre high land
diving tower has been constructed from palm trees that are lashed
together with flax. the local women wailing precede the ceremony
and the dance is a semi-hypnotic trance. there are usually 8 jumpers
and the ceremony last for about 90 minutes. You will leave in awe.
we then move down the coast to waterfall village. Our local host
will introduce you to this community. You are taken into the village as
if you are part of it - and some dont want to leave. From the Chief’s
heartfelt welcome to your traditional kava farewell, you will be
enthralled. Dinner is served as we lay at anchor just off the village.
day 7 - Breakfast, lunch, dinnertoday is a very special day, and as we anchor off Ranon on
ambrym Island you will immediately notice what makes this island
so unique. It has two active volcanoes, Mt Marum and Mt Benbow
and is sometimes called Black Island because of its black beach
and its “black magic” history. today the locals have extended us
a special invitation to experience the secretive and mystical Rom
dance, a performance rarely seen by outsiders. there will be
ample time to spend with these wonderful and very friendly people
before returning to the ship. this evening, at anchor, we witness the
amazing glow of the nearby volcanoes.
day 8 - Breakfast, lunch, dinnerafter a relaxing start to the morning, perhaps taking a swim before
breakfast, we then head south towards the small but beautiful wala
Island. this remote, densely vegetated island will excite anyone
with an interest in anthropology. Cut off from there larger neighbour,
Malakula, by a deep channel, wala is remarkably untouched by
modern culture - astounding considering its welcoming inhabitants,
wondrous environs, world class snorkeling and fascinating ancient
traditions. visit the local market to pick up some handicrafts, then
cool off with a swim or snorkel off one of the beautiful beaches.
day 9 – Breakfast, lunch, dinnertoday we are continuing north and with the trade winds behind us it
makes for pleasant cruising through the outer islands off Santo. the
fishing is good through the channels so we can expect to please chef
by towing a lure behind the ship. there are many secluded anchorages
in this area and we will look at the weather to find the perfect sheltered
bay to spend the evening. another swim or walk ashore before the
farewell dinner with the crew. Make sure that you have exchanged
addresses with fellow travellers before retiring for the night.
day 10 - Breakfastwe have you disembarking after breakfast at 9am. Depending on your flight arrangements we either transfer you to the airport or have
arranged for you to use the facilities at a local resort. we hope to
see you onboard again on another of our cruises.

empty into the fiords to areas seldom seen before. the Department
of Conservation places strict limits on where and when one can
explore in order to protect the true wilderness beauty of this world
Heritage Site. these rules are rigidly enforced.
Fiordland provides natural navigation routes for our kayaking
activities. Kayakers get to fully admire the flora and fauna at close
range under the supervision of our crew.
Fiordland fly-fishing is without a doubt an experience full of surprises
that will captivate the hearts of anglers. Reaching unexplored
places, trying new flies and techniques while fishing in waters that
most have never heard of before is one of the privileges that our
guests will experience.
the following days are filled with exploring. In George Sound we
have access to the beautiful alice waterfalls and the option of a hike
up to the lakes above. anchorage Cove is another favourite with hot
water springs and a trip up the George River. we then enter Bligh
Sound that is located in the heart of this wilderness region. a very
steep sided fiord, deep water with a lovely anchorage at the head
of the sound where we are moored overnight. later in the week we
cruise north up the coast, calling at Sutherland Sound and Poison
Bay if the weather is suitable. On our short ocean passages you will
see many of our sea birds including albatross and there could be
the possibility to see dolphins and on rare occasions whales. we
enter the world-famous Milford Sound from the tasman Sea. You will
see seals and the very rare Fiordland crested penguin and if sea
conditions permit have the chance to go ashore.
You will be disembarking at noon on Friday in the heart of Milford
village. Our aircraft is waiting to fly you back to Queenstown with
one of the most spectacular scenic flights in the world. we have a
selection of Queenstown Hotels if you wish to further extend your stay.
We invite you to join this once in a lifetime trip - to be spoilt and absolutely amazed…
this world Heritage Park is full of some of the world’s most
magnificent scenery. the Park covers some 1.25 million hectares
and is the largest national Park in new Zealand. It is also one
of the wettest places in the world but it is this rain that contributes
to the area’s beauty. waterfalls tumble down mountains to the
fiords and rain nourishes rich beech forest. the extraordinary
Fiordland coastline and very deep branching lakes were carved
out by glaciers millions of years ago. the glaciers left behind a
land internationally acclaimed for its absolutely spectacular scenery,
isolation and uninhabited environment which became a designated
world Heritage area in 1986.
temperatures in Fiordland are not extreme, seldom below 12º C /
54° F. On warmer days thermometers may rise to 22º C / 71° F.
with appropriate clothing this should not get in the way of enjoying
your Fiordland adventure.
Some of the landscapes waiting to be immortalized are glaciers,
mountains, bays, channels and fiords, the coastal strip and
impressive tidal variations. there is also a rich choice of wildlife.
these fiords are an artist’s dream. the unusual light conditions
produce a rare but often amazing artistic result. For the gifted artist,
or the novice, we are sure you will be able to produce exceptionally
unique works that will remind you of your visit to this wilderness.
we have designed an array of activities for explorers interested
in getting in touch with the natural beauty of Fiordland. the

with the ocean when planning our vacation. the constantly

the Bay of Islands is one of the most interesting and beautiful
maritime environments on the planet, complete with 144 islands
and many fascinating stories from new Zealand’s history. as a
nautical playground, it was made famous over a century ago by
legendary author and game fisherman, Zane Grey. Further back
it is the cradle of european civilization in new Zealand.
“Island Passage” arrives here in early January, at the start of
new Zealand’s summer season, and stays in the region
for three months. Summer

day 1 – sunday dinnerYour ship departs the port of Opua at 6pm this afternoon, cruising
up the veronica channel towards the tourist hub of Paihia and the
historic village of Russell. You’ll be sipping champagne, nibbling
canapés and getting to know your fellow cruisers as the exquisite
scenery slips by. Crew are always on hand to explain points of
interest, or refill your glass.
Your first night will be spent at picturesque Opunga Cove, a
tranquil haven for cruising yachts and launches. the cove faces
west, so you can sit and enjoy the sunset from your comfortable
steamer chair on deck. Opunga, also known as assassination
Cove, has a fearsome history. French explorer Marion Du Fresne
and 26 of his crew were killed and eaten in this bay in the 1800s.
utu (revenge) was carried out as the crew ignored warnings and
fished in a tapu (sacred) area. thankfully the tapu was removed
many years ago.
day 2 – Monday Breakfast, lunch, dinnertoday you’ll visit beautiful Motuarohia/Roberton Island, which
you can explore in many different ways. Snorkel in the sheltered
lagoon, kayak around the bay or hike up to the historic Maori Pa
site. From the summit you’ll be rewarded by blockbuster views of
the entire Bay of Islands area – green jewels in a sea of sparkling
blue. like Opunga Cove, this island has a murderous history.
ask a crew member to tell you the horrific story that ends with a
60-metre plunge off the island’s cliffs.
late afternoon we’ll motor to urupukapuka, the largest island in
the bay. while anchored in gorgeous Paradise Bay (which is very
aptly named), you’ll enjoy our chef’s gourmet barbecue with fresh
seafood and produce from the local farmers’ markets.
day 3 – tuesday Breakfast, lunch, dinnertoday there’s plenty of time to discover urupukapuka Island. You
could hike around the island, which has historic pa sites and
several fabulous beaches. Or explore the edges of the island by
kayak, stopping for a picnic along the way. Fishing from one of
our tenders is also an option – maybe you’ll catch dinner! If this
all sounds too much, simply lounge around on board with a great
book and regular deliveries of cold drinks and tasty nibbles.
after lunch we’ll cruise through the narrows of the albert Passage
and along Cape Brett Peninsula towards Deep water Cove.
watch for gannets and dolphins along the way. Deep water
Cove is a magical nature reserve complete with an idyllic waterfall
framed by native forest. we hope you’ll get the chance to swim

with the dolphins here – an amazing experience you’ll remember
forever. a popular option from Deep water Cove, which was
Zane Grey’s favourite angling base, is a fishing trip to Piercy
Island (also known as the ‘Hole in the Rock’). If conditions allow
we will overnight in this spectacular cove.
day 4 – Wednesday Breakfast, lunch, dinnertoday’s destination is beautiful Oke Bay, an anchorage that will
certainly tempt you over the side for a swim. Dolphins often visit
this bay, so you might have another dolphin encounter here. the
water is beautifully clear – swimming to the beach is always an
option for fitter guests. as the sun sets we return through the albert
Passage to our anchorage in Parekura Bay.
day 5 – thursday Breakfast, lunch, dinnerafter a sumptuous breakfast on deck, we’ll make ready to motor
across to the other side of the Bay of Islands. along the way you
can admire stunning homes tucked into remote bays and beaches.
we’ll make a detour to the Black Rocks, to collect fresh green-
lipped mussels for our barbecue lunch. the sauvignon blanc is
chilling and the chef is determined to impress you, yet again.
Our anchorage for the night is the te Pahi Islands, just off the
Purerua Peninsula. Before dinner there’s time to visit iconic
Marsden Cross on the mainland, the site of the first missionary
settlement in new Zealand and Reverend Samuel Marsden’s first-
ever Christmas service (1814). watch the sunset while sipping a
sundowner, then look forward to a night of indulgence with the
Captain’s gourmet dinner.
day 6 – Friday Breakfast, lunch, dinnertoday is a special treat. after breakfast the helicopter arrives onto
the ship and all guests are taken for a complimentary 10-minute
scenic helicopter flight around the Bay of Islands. Flights depart
right off the heli-deck on the ship and fly over the crystal clear
turquoise waters of the main island group to the world famous
“Hole in the Rock”. the townships of Russell, Paihia and waitangi
are also viewed from the air. then experience the thrill of landing
back onto the ships heli-deck. when the flights are finished we’ll
anchor off the historic village of Russell, known in whaling times
as ‘the hell-hole of the Pacific’ because it was a place of loose
women and drunken sailors. In Russell you can go ashore to explore
craft shops, museums, churches and the historic Pompallier French
Mission House (1839). You’ll also enjoy an elegant afternoon tea
on the veranda of the iconic waterfront Duke of Marlborough Hotel.
day 7 – saturday BreakfastOn your final day we have breakfast on the way back to Opua
and disembark at 9am.

the spectacular finishing holes, ocean views, rolling terrain and classic, traditional values combine to make the Gulf Harbour Country Club one of the most exciting golfing experiences in new Zealand. this 6,400 metre, par 72 golf course is located at Gulf Harbour on the whangaparaoa Peninsula, just north of auckland. day 9 Monday – Breakfasttoday is a round at the Kinloch Club - Jack nicklaus’ first and
only signature course in new Zealand. Only 15 minutes from
taupo. travel and leisure Golf Magazine rated the Kinloch Club
the best new course in 2007 outside north america. the course
takes advantage of the natural terrain created by the super
volcanic taupo eruption 26,000 years ago, which deposited
pumice across a wide area. this allowed nicklaus to build a
course with Scottish links characteristics creating remarkable
undulating fairways and greens. this combination comes
together in beautiful surroundings producing one of nicklaus’
best Signature Courses.
day 10 tuesday – Breakfastafter breakfast we coach to Cape Kidnappers. american tom Doak
of Renaissance Golf Design designed this wonderfully dramatic
course, set high on craggy cliffs some 140 metres above the sea.
arguably one of the most spectacular sites in the world, the 6,533
metre par 71 course provides a firm and fast surface for seaside
golf at its finest. In 2008 the Daily telegraph of the uK, described
Cape Kidnappers as the no.1 Golf Course in the world. at Cape
Kidnappers players may one minute be hitting shots over the tops
of tea trees and then the next across a deep gully or along the
edge of a deep ravine. Holes aptly named the Pirate’s Plank and
the widow’s walk perhaps give you some indication of just how
exhilarating this course is.
after the round your coach will transfer you to napier airport. aIRnZ
8426 departs at 5.55pm and after a short flight up the centre of
the island arrives into auckland domestic terminal at 6.50pm. we
