GUARD InitiativeThe Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) isundertaking a study to analyze Georgia's aerospace anddefense sectors. We are entering the survey portion of the studyand we need your help in publicizing the initiative, and incompleting a short (8 question) confidential online survey.The GDEcD's Workforce division and Center of Innovation forAerospace are partnering on the GUARD Initiative, fundedlargely through a grant from the U.S. Department of Defense(DOD) Office of Economic Adjustment.

Earlier in March, AUVSI Atlanta welcomed over 60 attendees toits fourth Unmanned Systems in Precision AgricultureConference at the UGA Tifton Conference Center. Departmentof Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black was the KeynoteSpeaker at the opening session, urging the audience to work toembrace the new technology for everyone's benefit. TheKeynote Speaker for the second day's session was Mr. MikeWilson of the FAA UAS Program Office, and he gave acomprehensive talk about the FAA's efforts to enable the use ofUnmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in precision agriculture. The conference had eleven presentations ranging from thetechnical aspects of UAS operations with crops such asblueberries, precision agriculture data management, and anentertaining briefing on the legal aspects of UAS operations.

Terminal Velocity's DowntoEarth CargoDelivery AspirationsIn late April or early May, Near Space Corp. plans to use a highaltitude balloon to carry Terminal Velocity Aerospace's soccerballsize reentry device to 30,000 meters and drop it. This willbe an important test of the firm's new product, RED4U, anaeroshell designed to protect everything from spacebasedbiological experiments to asteroid samples on journeys throughEarth's atmosphere.
Two Georgia CompaniesReceive UASExemptionsThe first two UAS exemptions forcommercial operations in Georgiahave been granted to Norcrossbased VSG Unmanned, andCartersville's Phoenix Air. Bothcompanies are members of ourUnmanned Systems WorkingGroup.
Phoenix Air has been in the news for it's speciallyequippedplanes and Ebola patient transport in recent months. VSG flew participated in the Center's demonstration exhibition at theSunbelt Ag Expo last fall.

World War II Heritage Days April 1718, 2015Peachtree City, GAThe WWII Heritage Days presented bythe Dixie Wing of the Commemorative AirForce (CAF) is held in Peachtree Cityeach year to educate the public aboutthe sacrifices of "the greatest generation"during World War II. Featured this year will be the CAF B24Liberator "Diamond Lil". This incrediblyrare B24A model was one of the very
first off the assembly line and is one of two still flying in theworld. The recent bestselling book and blockbuster movie "Unbroken",featured the B24 and tells the inspirational story of LouisZamperini. The B24 will be available for tours and flights andfor a very special event five WWII B24 crew members arescheduled for a "Warbird in Review" and will share their wartimeexperiences.

Flight Jackets as Living HistoryJohn Slemp, a professionalphotographer from Atlanta, is leadingan effort to visually document "bomberjackets" from WWII. He is looking for flight jackets from anyair crewman from World War II,particularly ones displaying handpainted artwork on one or both sides ofthe jacket. The condition is irrelevant. If you know of any flight jackets that
meet Slemp's design brief, you can contact him directly [email protected].
The Couple Who Knew How to Build a Plane: The Story of Maule Air, Inc. The plane is a small, rugged aircraft and it is built to goanywhere. It is the plane version of the Jeep. The company isMaule Air Inc. in Moultrie. This is the story about how this smallplane and company came to be.
