THE WOUNDS OF JESUS In the Gospel passage from John, Jesus appears twice to his disciples, and both times Jesus shows them his wounds from his crucifixion. Thomas actually touches the wounds. Jesus' wounds did not dis-appear after the Resurrection. Jesus meant for his followers to know that his sufferings, and ours, are part of our encounter with him. Jesus revealed how God is present in our human suffering, joining us in our most painful moments with consolation and with mercy. Suffering is a great mystery, and we cannot ade-quately explain or justify the many wounds we expe-rience in life. However, in prayer God can open a way forward. The Holy Spirit might offer wisdom to perceive when or how our sufferings make healing or hope possible for others or for ourselves. When we enter into this mystery we follow Jesus, who radi-cally trusted God to transform his sufferings into new life.

tro encuentro con él. Jesús reveló cómo Dios está presente en nuestro sufrimiento, uniéndose en nuestros momentos más dolorosos con consuelo y misericordia. El sufrimiento es un gran misterio y no podemos explicar o justificar adecuadamente las muchas lla-gas que experimentamos a lo largo de la vida. Sin embargo, en la oración Dios puede abrir un camino por delante. El Espíritu Santo puede ofrecer sabidu-ría para percibir cuándo o cómo nuestros sufrimien-tos hacen posible la sanación o la esperanza para otros y para nosotros mismos. Cuando entramos en este misterio seguimos a Jesús, quien confió radi-calmente en Dios para transformar sus sufrimientos a una nueva vida.

TODAY’S READINGS

First Reading — The community of believers was of one

heart and mind (Acts 4:32-35).

Psalm — Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love is

everlasting (Psalm 118).

Second Reading — Everyone who believes that Jesus is

the Christ is begotten by God (1 John 5:1-6). Gospel — The risen Christ comes to his disciples with peace and the Spirit. (John 20:19-31).

LECTURAS DE HOY Primera lectura — La communidad de los creyentes com-partía todo con el mismo amor (Hechos 4:32-35). Salmo — Den gracias al Señor porque es bueno, porque es eterna su misericordia (Salmo 118 [117]). Segunda lectura — Si alguien cree que Jesús es el Envia-do, ése ha nacido de Dios (1 Juan 5:1-6). Evangelio — Felices los que creen sin haber visto (Juan 20:19-31).

Antecedentes de la Divina Misericordia El mensaje y la devoción a Jesús como la Divina Miseri-cordia esta basada en los escritos de la Santa María Faustina Kowalska, una monja polaca sin educación bási-ca que, en obediencia a su director espiritual, escribió un diario de alrededor de 600 páginas que relatan las revela-ciones que ella recibió sobre la Misericordia de Dios. Aún antes de su muerte en 1938 se comenzó a esparcir la de-voción a la Divina Misericordia.

El mensaje de Misericordia es que Dios nos Ama – a to-dos- no importa cuan grande sean nuestras faltas. Él quie-re que reconozcamos que Su Misericor-dia es más grande que nuestros peca-dos, para que nos acerquemos a Él con confianza, para que recibamos su Mise-ricordia y la dejemos derramar sobre otros. De tal manera de que todos parti-cipemos de Su Gozo. Es un mensaje que podemos recordar tan fácilmente como un ABC.

A — Pide su Misericordia. Dios quiere que nos acerque-mos a Él por medio de la oración constante, arrepentidos de nuestros pecados y pidiéndole que derrame Su Miseri-cordia sobre nosotros y sobre el mundo entero B — Sé misericordioso – Dios quiere que recibamos Su Misericordia y que por medio de nosotros se derrame so-bre los demás C — Confía completamente en Jesús – Dios nos deja sa-ber que las gracias de su Misericordia dependen de nues-tra confianza. Mientras más confiemos en Jesús, más re-cibiremos.

Background of the Divine Mercy Devotion The message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska, an uneducated Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God’s mercy. Even before her death in 1938, the devotion to The Divine Mercy had begun to spread. The message of mercy is that God loves us — all of us — no matter how great our sins. He wants us to recognize

that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. It is a message we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC.

A — Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world. B — Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. C — Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive.

Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord (April 9, 2018)

The Solemnity of the Annunciation celebrates the coming of the Angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary to announce to her the special mission God had chosen for her in being the mother of His only son. The feast of the Annunciation began to be celebrated on this day during the fourth and fifth centuries, soon after the date for celebrating Christmas was universalized throughout the Church. This feast celebrates the Incarnation of the Second Person of the Trinity and the salvation of all mankind.

La solemnidad de la Anunciación celebra la venida del ángel Gabriel a la Virgen María para anunciar a ella la misión es-pecial que Dios había elegido para ella, ser la madre de su hijo único. La fiesta de la Anunciación comenzó a celebrarse en este día durante los siglos cuarto y quinto, poco después de la fecha para la celebración de Navidad fue universalizada a través de la iglesia. Esta fiesta celebra la encarnación de la segunda persona de la Trinidad y la salvación de toda la humanidad.
