En el evangelio de Mateo se cuentan 160 citas implcitas o alusiones a textos delAntiguo Testamento, y 38 citas explcitas.Mathetes 31,5,36Suniemi Mt primer lugar con 9X Mc 5 Lc 4 Jn 0, Lo usa desde Mt 13Poca fe 6,30; 8,26; 14,31; 16,8De las 73 veces que Mt emplea m. 33 las aade Mateo para clarificar Examples of thistendency are found in 8:23 (Mk 4:36) where Matthew makes explicit that it is themathetai who followed Jesus into the boat; in 12:2 (Mk 2:24) the mathetai are explicitlyaccused by the Pharisees; the mathetai ask the question about the scribalinterpretation of Elijah; in 26:40, 45 (Mk 14:37, 41) Matthew makes it clear that themathetai ( were asleep while Jesus was praying in the Garden. At the humiliating scene in the garden when Mark says that "they all forsook" Jesusand fled Mk 14:50), Matthew specifies that" the disciples forsook him and fled" mathetai( Mt 26:56). This inclusion of mathetai makes the subject of fleeing more explicit, butsomething more may have been in Matthew's mind as well. The fact that Matthew alsoincludes an explicit mention of the mathetai agreeing with Peter that they would neverdeny Jesus (26:35 cf. Mk 14:31), makes it quite possible that Matthew is stressing theironic and lamentable nature of the disciples' ill-founded confidence.Conclusiones The progression to "adherent" in Hellenism at the time of Christ and the

early church made a convenient term to designate the followers of Jesus, because theemphasis in the common use of the term was not upon' 'learning," or upon being a"pupil," but upon adherence to a great master. Hence a "disciple" of Jesus, designated

by the Greek term , was one who adhered to his master, and the type of adherencewas determined by the master himself.Mathetai and talmid appear to be equivalent terms. They were popular terms at thetime of Jesus to designate a follower who was vitally committed to a teacher / leaderand/or movement. The terms themselves did not determine the type of discipleship; thetype discipleship was determined by the type of leader or movement or teaching towhich the disciple was " committed. The types of discipleship covered the spectrumfrom philosophical (Philo) to technical (scribes) to sectarian (Pharisees) to revolutionary(Zealots and Menahem) to eschatological John the Baptist). The terms were generalenough to be used for all of the above. It remained for Jesus and Jamnia to makethese terms specialized. This study of Matthew's use of Mathetai reveals his special interest in the disciples as aliterary figure. fn the process of handing on his tradition concerning them, Matthew, through inclusions, unique tradition, expansions, alterations, and omissions, hasexalted' Jesus as the supreme Lord and Teacher of the historical disciples and thepost-resurrection community. Mathetai term serves to underline Christology.Matthew has emphasized the goal of the believers' life of faith through the discipleship

stories directed to the mathetai. Matthew's gospel is at least in part a manual ondiscipleship. With all of the majordiscourses directed to the followers (Mt 5-7; 10; 13; 18; 24-25) with the term arrangedin such a way that most sayings directed to the disciples have become teachings ondiscipleship, with the positive yet realistic enhancement of the picture of the disciples, and with disciples called and trained and commissioned to carry out the climacticmandate to "make disciples" in the conclusion of the gospel, Matthew has constructeda gospel that will equip the disciples in the making of disciples.Los mathetai estn asociados a los Doce con lo que la comunidad de Mateo ve suvinculacin con ellos al recibir la Tradicin Apostlica.Peter. Four times (4: 18; 8: 14; 16: 16; 26:35) Matthew records the same basic traditionas Mark, but in his account Matthew becomes more explicit about Peter by including

the name of the disciple. Peter also functions exemplarily in much the same way as dothe group of disciples. In his strengths and in his weaknesses he can be an example toMatthew's church. This is why Matthew has accentuated the truly human element inPeter. The church would find much in common with Peter's typically humancharasteristics and he would be the named example from among the disciples.Solo a Pedro le da las llaves para toda la Iglesia y el poder de atar y desatar a niveluniversal.
