TEAM WORK
The moral of the story? It's good to be individuallybrilliant and to have strong core competencies; butunless you're able to work in a team and harnesseach other's core competencies, you'll alwaysperform below par because there will always be
situations at which you'll do poorly and someoneelse does well.

TEAM WORK
Teamwork is mainly about situational leadership,letting the person with the relevant corecompetency for a situation take leadership.

And there is still more
There are more lessons to be learnt from this story.

TEAM WORK
Note that neither the hare nor the tortoise gave upafter failures. The hare decided to work harder andput in more effort after his failure.

TEAM WORK
The tortoise changed his strategy because he wasalready working as hard as he could. In life, whenfaced with failure, sometimes it is appropriate towork harder and put in more effort.

TEAM WORK
Sometimes it is appropriate to change strategy andtry something different. And sometimes it isappropriate to do both.

TEAM WORK
The hare and the tortoise also learnt another vitallesson. When we stop competing against a rival andinstead start competing against the situation, weperform far better.

A Real-Life Example
The competition wasn't Pepsi. It was the water, tea,coffee, milk and fruit juices that went into theremaining 12 ounces. The public should reach for aCoke whenever they felt like drinking something.

TEAM WORK
To sum up, the story of the hare and tortoise teaches usmany things. Important lessons are:
1. that fast and consistent will always beat slow and steady;
2. work to your competencies;
3. pooling resources and working as a team will always beatindividual performers;
4. never give up when faced with failure;
5. and finally, compete against the situation. Not against a rival.
