Emo stands for emotional or emotional hardcore. It was a style of rock music developed since the

80s that places a strong emphasis on expressingfeelings, especially emotions relating to

    insecurities, anger, or sadness.

By far, it is teenagers and the youngerpopulation who are involved in the emo

subculture. Therefore, song topics often relateto life experiences that younger folks can relate

to such as romantic love or not being

understood. The music acts as a way to vent ouremotions.

Emo : OriginsThe emo subculture is a combination from the punk rock and thehardcore tendencies. From etymological point of view the name

emocore comes from emotional hardcore and its roots are inWashington in the middle of 80s. Fore founders of the emocore

tendency could be shown as the bands Rites of Spring,Embrace and Rain.

At first it grew from punk music in the 80s. Then during the 90s,large record labels made it into a more mainstream music. Thats

when emo started to become a fashion trend. From the 2000s forward, it was a full blow

trend in music and fashion, but of course, the style was changed to fit mainstream

audiences. This was also around the timewhen emo became associated with negative

labels such as whiners and wrist cutters.

At their nature the emo representatives are extremelysensitive characters. The psychologists define them as

introverts, who dont want to communicate with the

ambient world.. In fact this type of young people, asall the rest, need love and seek it all the time.

Just in the process of this search they fall into the dark

bottom of their souls and they suffer desperately. They

suffer, they cry and they listen to their favorite emocore

bandsthe only ones that understand them.

The emotional nature of the subculture youth...

    Emo Fashion

Some people might not think that emo is a

fashion statement but it is, you can tell who isemo by the way that they dress, do their hair

and just by the accessories they have.Interesting and contradictory is the fashion of theemo representatives. Staggering hair styles, combined with sport clothing, with many

accessories and a strong make-up these are themost distinctive characteristics of the emo fashionthat has its varieties and modifications.

The accessories really bring out the individuality of

the kids. The necklaces like chokers, long chains with

charms, and lockets, are mostly in silver rather thanin gold. A bracelet that matches the necklace or

maybe just a plain bracelet or watch is worn. The

hands are dressed with rings big and small, real or

fake. Earrings can be long and dangly or just a small

hoop or stud, but not everyone only has their earspierced. There are a lot of choices on what body

jewelry can be worn too, like on eye brow, tongue,

belly button and so much more. Different types of

    Emo Ideology

Emos tend to take the world around them in a moreemotional way.Artist talent is known to be associated with the emoculture along with a degree of sophistication and depth

lacking in the blonde, bouncy chav faces whichdominate our television screens and nightclubs.Usually, Emo kids like to express their feelings writingpoems and song lyrics about their problems with

depression, loneliness, confusion, and anger; all becausethe world fails to understand them.

difficult to understand. For example, drawings ofbloody eyeballs or a knife put to the wrist will beaccompanied by emotive captions such as "If this iswhat it takes to make you listen."

Confusion and Criticism on EmoThe definition of the term emo is still the subject ofdebate, with some question as to whether it can even be

defined. There is no one definition of emo, nowadays it isseemed to describe anything that's a little bit differentfrom the social 'norms' if you will. Many other music-centered cultural movements aredifficult to define. Meanings evolve, replicate, andrecombine so that Emo, which started as a somewhat"agreed-upon" collective subculture, has become a

highly contested set of meanings and collectivepractices. "Emo" will just get harder and harder to defineas time goes on...You can get into a hundred pointlessdebates about the definition and origin of emo.

Emo SummarizedEmo is both a fashion style, and a music style. It can also be regarded as combining thetwo styles to become a lifestyle.Emo is based on the word "emotional music". This is most likely why we think of emos as

emotional, sensitive and depressive.Emo is a popular genre with a lot of attractive elements to it and can help a person findfriends where they aren't accepted elsewhere. For many youth, the Emo subculturefacilitates identity formation, social interactions, and emotional involvement. It is aplace where many adolescents share their experiences about the world and expresstheir feelings about life through music.

Ironically one of the big themes for emo is celebrating failure something a lot of youthscan relate to and it is this relation that brings the bands and the audience together. The band is the audience! The singers express their emotions, their pain and the music isa sound track to the kids lives. It is not a genre but a subculture and that subculture isextremely important to the youths involved.
