In 1589, the feadal lord Terumoto Mori started to build the castle, known as the Carp castle. It was later the seats for the Fukushima and the Asano families.After its destruction in the atomic bomb blast, it was reconstructed in 1958 as it stands today. Now it’s a museum, its inner rooms convey a realistic feeling of Hiroshima’s history.
The A-Bomb Dome was called the Hiroshima prefecture industrial Promo-tion Hall, before it was destroyed by the atomic bomb. The A-Bomb Dome was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1996.
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum was established in August, 1955 to show the effects of the atomic bomb and to promote world peace. The museum uses artifacts from the bombing and historic records to describe the effects and aftermath of the atomic bomb.

Remarks
The Garden was created by Nagaakira Asano, the Daimyo of Hiroshima, for his villa in 1620. The present style of the garden is a product of an extensive renovation in 1783.
The museum houses more than 4,800 works of art. This collection has pieces relating to Hiroshima prefecture, Asia and the 1920s-30s. The works of art on display change four times a year.
The museum’s permanent exhibition has 90 works of modern art. These include paintings by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Vincent Van Gogh, as well as modern and traditional Japanese style paintings. The museum also holds special exhibitions 5-6 times a year.
The museum was designed by the renowned architect Kisho Kurokawa and is situat-ed in Hijiyama Park. In the museum grounds, there are works of modern art by artists such as Henry Moore. The museum houses a diverse collection of contempo-rary art from around the world.
