MY IDEAL SCHOOL CANTEEN

Page 2: assignment My Ideal School Canteen.doc

As a primary school teacher, I would like to see my students to have a wonderful time in school.

One of the best places to see them happy is when they are interacting with one another during the recess

time at the school canteen. This is the time that I felt so happy, just by watching them having a great

time with their friends while eating together. Therefore, it is my wish that they have the best foods,

facilities and services at the canteen.

I have always been dreaming about having an ideal school canteen for my school. It has to have

the most modern with up-to-date facilities and spacious place with beautiful tables and comfortable

chairs that can accommodate every student in the school. It has clean tiled flooring with beautiful

curtains and decorated nicely with paintings like those found in exclusive restaurants. The canteen is

totally enclosed with fully air-conditioned to provide a cool and conducive environment for students to

enjoy their foods without sweating.

The canteen should provide soft romantic music for to lighten up the mood and televisions are

also being provided at various locations so that students can keep up with current news or occasionally

watched “Upin & Ipin” cartoons.

A variety of foods should be served at the canteen comprised of Malay, Chinese and Indian

dishes as to provide a 1Malaysia ambiance. The menu includes a main dish that should be varied

everyday i.e. like “Lontong” on Monday, “Penang Laksa” on Tuesday, “Mee Kari” on Wednesday,

Thursday with “Chicken Rice” and on Friday with “Nasi Beriani”.

The canteen also provides tidbits like sour plums, sweets and snacks sold to students so that it

can help them from feeling drowsiness and boredom in the classroom. The canteen should also provide

a reasonably priced fresh fruit juices such as apples, oranges and watermelons to quench their thirst.

Parent Teacher Association should play an active role to ensure the school canteen provide a

well-balanced and healthy food. Dietitian should be invited to check on the food that is being served so

that students are guaranteed to eat nutritious food. Health inspector also should regularly come to

examine if the food is being prepared in a healthy manner so that students will not get food poisoning.

Students also should be inculcating about eating the right food for their health.

Parent Teacher Association also should make an action at providing free or subsidized food for

the needy. The students from poor family should also be taken care so that they too can have the same

benefit in the school. It is not easy to concentrate in their studies with an empty stomach. It is nice if the

parents can come during recess time to eat with their children and bring home cooked food.

The canteen should also be served by pleasant looking and polite canteen workers. They should

be friendly and ever willing to help the students and always serve the students with a smile. There

should be adequate workers serving the students so that the students don't have a long time to wait for

their foods since the recess time is not that long. The canteen should be located at the center of the

school. This is to ensure that all of the students have ample time to spend at the canteen without rushing

for time.

As a teacher, I would regularly approach the headmaster to bring some changes to the present

canteen. There are many changes that should have taken place but because of budgets and other

constrains it cannot be fulfilled. So I hope one day, my dream of an ideal school canteen can be realized.
