Assisted Travel 2017‐18 

Helping you travel to and from the 

Macclesfield College campus 

As part of Macclesfield College’s Transport Plan which aims to reduce traffic volume, the College provides a subsidised bus service for full‐ me 16‐18 year old students.  The following services are available depending on where you live:  1  Poynton/Adlington/Bollington   Congleton/Gawsworth   Holmes Chapel/Knutsford/Alderley Edge   Stockport/Cheadle/Bramhall   Buxton/Whaley Bridge/Chapel‐en‐le‐Frith   Disley/Marple/Hazel Grove  2  Public Service (eg Arriva)   ‐ Wilmslow/Handforth   ‐ Other routes restricted by applica on only  Please note that where a contract service exists for your home area, this is the only service that the college will subsidise for you.  No support is provided for students living within 3 miles of the College.    All transport informa on is correct for September 2017—June 2018 at the  me of producing, however, routes and pick‐up points may be reassessed at any  me for opera onal and efficiency requirements.    

 

How do I apply?  Applica on forms are available from Student Services or from  www.macclesfield.ac.uk/support/transport .  Applica on forms will be sent to appropriate students in June 2017 once they have accepted their offer.  Applica ons can take up to 4 weeks to process during August and September and we recommend that you apply before July 31st.     

Payment  For the academic year 2017‐18 the subsidised cost is £300 per year. Please be aware it’s free for households with income under £25,000.  Payment can be made fully at enrolment or split into 2 payments September (£175) and January (£125).   

Please note:  Cheques should be made payable to Macclesfield College.  If you have a brother or sister travelling on a College bus then the second pass is half price (buy one, get one half price).  PLEASE NOTE: Payment does not guarantee the right to travel ‐ it is the students responsibility to apply for a pass.  If the student does not have a valid pass they will not be permi ed to travel. 

  

Help with costs  Applicants whose parents are in receipt of the following benefits or low income (under £25,000) may qualify for free or subsidised travel.     Income Support  Income Based Job Seeker’s Allowance   Income Based Employment Support Allowance (WRAG only)  Maximum level of Working Families Tax Credit   Guaranteed element of state pension  Suppor ng evidence must be provided with the applica on form to Macclesfield College. 

Public Transport  Students traveling from Wilmslow or Sandbach can choose to travel by public transport.  Students should complete the same bus applica on form and ensure payment (if required) is made before term starts in September.   Students travelling from areas where an Arriva pass is not appropriate are required to apply to the Learner Support Fund (LSF) for support with these costs. Students will be reimbursed their travel costs on a monthly basis ( ckets or petrol costs (based on mileage).  Please note that this support is means tested.  The following restric ons apply to this assistance:   Students who are eligible to travel on College buses  but choose not to, will not 

be supported.    No support is provided for students living within 3 miles of the College.  Reimbursement is affected by a endance and students must maintain a 

minimum of 90% a endance .  Taxi fares are not reimbursed  Charges incurred for parking e.g. permits or   ckets from Macclesfield Bus or 

Train sta on to the College will not be reimbursed.    Students are expected to purchase  ckets in advance direct from the operator.  Applica on forms are available from Student Services and will be sent to appropriate students on receipt of their course acceptance. Full details of how to claim assistance will be provided once their applica on has been processed.
