Re-Ball: Dupont UndergroundInstallation project for a competition

In the National Museum of Washington D.C., 650,000 translucent plastic balls were turned into an interactive beach simulation. The future of these balls remained uncertain until the Dupont Underground organization became interested in using them in the streetcar tunnel under Dupont Circle, and opened a design competition.
With two team members, Rachel Kim and Madison Chung, this design proposal for a strand-based installation was submitted. The project, aimed at creating serenity under the hustle of Dupont Circle, takes its inspiration from the stillness of the universe as stars explode. Using the motif of an architectural column as the unit, the space features the column in various states of exploding - dubbed Immerse, Observe, and Rest.
In Immerse, the balls are hung in fragmented strands, as though they are ruins. In Observe, dense columns gravitate up and outward, creating bold gradation. In Rest, all forms come to balance, with a marching distribution and bottom-heavy columns.

Industry Performing Arts Center, 2015
Adaptive reuse of Buffalo State Psychiatric Center
This project, designed in an adaptive reuse-focused studio, proposes a performing arts school concept for the redesign of Female Ward G in H.H. Richardson’s abandoned Buffalo State Psychiatric
Center. In 1974, every last patient evacuated the historic asylum. In 2012 - after four decades untouched - the center’s conversion into a hotel and museum began. Since the hotel’s scope only covers
the central portion of the site, complementary future uses for the attached wards are needed. A performing arts center was natural given Buffalo’s vibrant performing arts community.
The project’s focus was providing the performing artists of Buffalo with a home base they could do work in as well as simply be in. Included are a black box theater, a proscenium theater, rehearsal rooms,
classrooms, dance studios, a cafe, office spaces, a resource library, a tech center, and more.

Leila, 2015Jewelry store design for a retail studio
Explorations of form and line.
Leila is a fictional character created for this project, which was completed for a retail design studio. She finds sanctuary in the beaches along Lake Michigan’s shore, and when she opened her jewelry store, wanted to pay homage to
their breathtaking power.
Water, in this project, represents a life of leisure. It is the antithesis of weariness; it is a universal serenity. The design takes the glimmering sensation of looking at a horizon of water
and replicates it in another glittering context: jewelry.
For this project, various scales were considered, from user movement throughout the layout to the types of display cases.

Choco Puzzle,2016How can a gift bring people together? That question stands at the core of the Choco Puzzle packaging project. Drawing from the social aspects of giving chocolate - as a gift or serving it at gatherings - this packaging reimagines the interior of a chocolate box so that it breaks down into puzzle
pieces. As friends and family eat more chocolate, more pieces become available to complete the puzzle. The box’s charm is the intersection of discovery, collaboration, and the enjoyment of chocolate and art.
The model shown contains the above Kandinsky painting.

As outer space stretches endlessly, the Abyss wall sconce filters light selectively through translucent glass to create an illusion of depth.
It is a modular piece that results in different images when the parts are realigned. Several specific configurations result in a reveal of light from an opening at the top.
