    MODELING MITOSIS QUESTIONS

    1. What is the chromosome number (how many chromosomes) of your parent

    cell?

    2. What is the chromosome number of each daughter cell?

    3. During which phase is DNA replicated?

    3. Are the two sets of chromosomes (separated chromatids) moving toward

opposite poles in anaphase, identical or not identical?

    4. Does the parent cell still exist? Why or why not?

    5. Are the daughter cells genetically identical to one another?

    6. Are the daughter cells genetically identical to the parent cell?

    7. Do the daughter cells now have single or duplicated chromosomes?

    8. If cells double in number at each division, and we are constantly dividing,

why do we not keep growing bigger and bigger throughout our lifetime?

    9. Starting with the single cell (zygote) from which we all came, how many

cells would a new embryo have after 5 mitosis divisions of every cell

(every daughter cell divides each round)?
