BAEN/CHEN 474 - UNIT OPERATIONS IN FOOD PROCESSING
Department of Biological & Agricultural Engineering Texas A&M University
Consider the typical flow problem illustrated. The system has a 0.0348 m diameter pipe with a volumetric flow rate of 1.57X10-3 m3/s (1.97 kg/s) or an average velocity of 1.66 m/s. The density of the fluid is constant (ρ = 1250 kg/m3) and the pressure drop across the strainer is 100 kPa. Additional friction losses occur in the entrance, the plug valve and in the three long radius elbows.
a.)Assume K=5.2 Pa sn and n=0.45, determine the work input and the pressure drop across the pump. Determine the maximum velocity in the pipe.
b.) Assume K=0.25 Pa sn and n=0.45, determine the work input and the pressure drop across the pump. Determine the maximum velocity in the pipe.
