A bagpipe consists of a blowpipe, a bag, a chanter, and usually a drone. The blowpipe is in the mouth of the piper, he puffs air into the pipe to fill the bag. The bag is made of skins form sheep or cows, where the air is hold. The chanter is the melody pipe, played by one or two hands like a flute. The drone is a tube, witch produce only single notes. In the bible and in some letters form the emperor Nero are bagpipes mentioned. We know that the bagpipe was played 1000 after Christ. In Scotland the bagpipe is an important instrument on the royal court. The Great Highland Bagpipe is probably the best-known variety of bagpipes in Ireland, England and Scotland. The queen Elisabeth II of the United Kingdom is woken up with the sound from a bagpipe. In The United Kingdom are many pipe bands. - 1 -

At festivals like Hogmanay and Burns Suppers a Bagpiper plays the

bagpipe.

Often the Scottish Bagpiper wears a kilt, that’s like a skirt for man.

Describe the bagpipe

Procedure:

Form a circle (or copy the picture on an overhead folio).

Put the picture in the circle.

Give every kid a word card.

Read the word card aloud.

Put the names of the particles of the bagpipe to the right place of the

picture.

Add the description of the particles to the picture.

Teaching aims:

The pupils should understand the word cards.

The pupils should understand the sentences.

Pupils should be able to combine the word cards and the sentences with

the picture of the bagpipe.
