R i n u s V a n d e V e l d eBelgisch kunstenaar Rinus Van de Velde (1982) creëerde voor BANG! een imposante houtskooltekening op een van de barmuren. De tijdelijke wandte-kening is tijdens het festival zes weken lang te bezichtigen in de pop-up en verdwijnt na afloop van het festival onherroepelijk! Belgian artist Rinus Van de Velde (1982) created an impressive charcoal drawing on one of the bar walls for BANG! This temporary wall drawing will be on dis-play during the whole festival and disappears afterwards…

Wegens bouwwerken kiest KultuurKaffee voor een nomadisch werking in de stad Brussel. Twee keer per jaar nodigen we een gastcurator uit om onder de noemer BANG! een eigenzinnig multidisciplinair festivalprogramma samen te stellen.

Dit najaar ontvangt auteur Saskia De Coster haar festivalgasten in Bozar. Van 22.09 tot 29.10 brengt de schrijfster met haar verbeeldend stadsfestival een ode aan de stad an sich én de verbeelding die vaak in steden ontstaan. Het officieel startschot: de release van haar nieuwste boek Wat wij alleen horen.

In Saskia’s programma heel wat aan-dacht voor literatuur (in de breedste zin van het woord), maar ook andere kunst-vormen, een flinke hap muziek en een heilzame portie leute. Een Bingo spel, hier een streepje gospel, daar een boks-ring, wat trashpop, op salon met een voormalig Europees president, guerilla-talks, lapsteels bouwen, en meer van dat = zes weken lang BANG!

In anticipation of a new building, Kultu-urKaffee operates as a nomadic cultural organization in the city center of Brus-sels. Twice a year, we invite a curator to compile a multidisciplinary program that will run for six weeks under the header: ‘BANG!’.This fall, author Saskia De Coster invites her festival guests at Bozar. From 22.09 until 29.10 the writer celebrates ‘the city’ and the ‘sense of imagination’ that often occurs in these cities. The main focus of the program goes out to literature (in the broadest sense of the word), but of course also other forms of art, great mu-sic and some good wholesome fun can be found on our agenda. Think: bingo, a dash of gospel, a boxing ring, trash pop, a salon with a former European presi-dent, building your own lap steel guitar and much more pleasant surprises = six weeks of BANG!

The official opening of BANG! kicks off with the presentation of Saskia De Coster’s newest novel: Wat alleen wij horen. In her latest book Saskia outlines the deeply human ups-and-downs in the contemporary city.

First off, invitees our welcome to the official launch of the artwork by Rinus Van de Velde at our pop-up bar. On request of Saskia De Coster, this young artist created a temporary charcoal drawing at the beating heart of the festival. His work will be on display throughout the duration of BANG!.

Ted Hughes en Sylvia Plath vormen het beroemdste liefdespaar uit de moderne westerse literatuur. In Jij zegt het geeft Connie Palmen de in 1998 overleden Ted Hughes een stem. Ze laat hem terugkijken op zijn gepassioneerde huwelijk dat op 11 februari 1963 eindigt in de zelfmoord van zijn vrouw, en op zijn le-ven dat vanaf dat moment door deze dood wordt be-heerst. Een avond in het teken van Palmens nieuw-ste roman, waarop ze maar liefst zes jaar lang heeft zitten broeden.

Het salon der verbeelding, een vrijplaats van ge-waagde ideeën en kwetsbare ontboezemingen. Ge-inspireerd door de literaire en filosofische salons uit 18de en 19de eeuw roept Saskia De Coster de sfeer van weleer op. Als thema: het taboe rond eenzaam-heid in de grootstad. Voormalig Europees president Herman Van Rompuy, auteur Niña Weijers en pro-fessor Mechanical Engineering Bram Vanderborght (VUB) praten over eenzaamheid vanuit hun eigen vakgebied en ervaring, en gaan daarna met jou in gesprek. Katharina Smets modereert.

De wereldberoemde Amerikaanse schrijver Jonathan Franzen komt voor het eerst in jaren naar België. Aanleiding is de publicatie van zijn langverwach-te roman Zuiverheid (Purity), die op 1 september in het Engels en het Nederlands verschijnt. Saskia De Coster opent de avond met een hommage aan haar Amerikaanse collega. Daarna wordt Franzen geïn-terviewd door schrijfster en VRT-journaliste Annelies Beck. Tot slot zal hij zijn laatste boek signeren.

The world-famous American author Jonathan Franzen is back in Belgium for the first time in years. He is here on the occasion of the publication of his long-awaited novel Purity, which comes out on 1 September. The Flemish author Saskia De Coster opens the evening with a tribute to her American colleague. The talk with Franzen will be moderated by writer and journalist Annelies Beck. The author will be signing his latest book afterwards.

Saskia de Coster (1976) is opgemerkt colum-nist en deelnemer aan televisiedebatten, kun-stenaar die bruggen weet te slaan naar andere genres maar bovenal de auteur van een nu al schitterend en in zijn soort uniek literair oeu-vre. Meerdere van haar romans stonden op de longlist van de BNG en de AKO Literatuurprijs. Haar laatste roman, Wij en ik, won de Opzij Li-teratuurprijs, verschijnt in het Engels en het Duits en verkocht meer dan 40.000 exempla-ren.

Saskia de Coster (1976) is a noted columnist and participant in television debates, an ar-tist who knows how to build bridges to other genres, but above all the author of an already brilliant and unique literary oeuvre. Several of her novels were on the longlist of the BNG and the AKO Literature Prize. Her previous novel, Us and me won de Opzij Literatuurprijs, is to be published in English and in German and has already sold more than 40,000 copies.
