    Drilling with Kelly

Classic bored pile system which transfers torque and verticalcrowd force to drilling tools via a telescopic kelly bar.

Borehole wall is supported either by excess hydrostatic pressure

    or by drill casings.

Installation of drill casings by rotary drive or by casing oscillators

    attached to rig.

By using different drilling tools the system can be employed in all

    types of soil (including bedrock).

    Diameters 600 - 3000 mm

    Drill ing depth 15 - 90 m

Drill casing and auger are drilled into theground simultaneously by two rotary drives

    rotating in opposite directions.

The soil which is loosened at the auger tip is

conveyed to the surface by the auger flight

inside of the casing and discharged through

a gate underneath the rotary drive.

Concrete is placed through hollow stem

auger as drill casing and auger are

    simultaneously withdrawn.

A special design of the rotary drives allows

the construction of piled walls directly in

front of existing walls of adjacent buildings

(=> FoW system). The usable excavation pit

area is maximised. Diameters 305 - 508 mm

    Drill ing depth 10 - 18 m

    Drilling Systems

Twin Rotary Drive Drilling Systemfor small diameters (FoW)

Drilling with Continuous Flight Auger (CFA)

Significant increase of drilling performance can be reached when

using a continuous flight auger which is installed in one

    continuous pass:

The soil which is loosened at the auger tip is conveyed to the

    surface by the auger flight.

Borehole wall is supported by the auger filled with drill spoil.

Use of a crowd winch facilitates penetration into hard soilformations.

Attaching a kelly extension increases the drilling depth by 6 - 8 m.

Pile is concreted through hollow stem by means of concrete

    pump.

Concrete is pumped by a concrete pump through the hollow

stem of the auger while extracting the auger. Concrete feed pres-

sure can be measured at the tip of the continuous flight auger.

    Diameters 500 - 1200 mm

    Drill ing depth 10 - 28 m

Twin Rotary Drive Drilling System for largediameters

A long outer casing and an inner continuous flight auger are

drilled into the ground simultaneously by two rotary drives

rotating in opposite directions, assisted by the crowd force of the

    crowd winch system.

Concrete is placed through hollow stem auger as drill casing and

    auger are simultaneously withdrawn.

The system is used for constructing bored piles and secant pile

    walls.

Technique can be employed in all types of soil without rock

    formations and boulders.

    Diameters 600 - 1200 mm

    Drill ing depth 12 - 20 m

    Soil Displacement Piling System

The displacement tool which is mounted at the bottom of a drill

rod is drilled and pushed into the ground with high torque and

    crowd pressure.

Concrete is placed by a concrete pump through the hollow stem

of the displacement tool which is simultaneous

    withdrawn.

Full displacement of the soil keeps the working area

free of drill spoil, which allows easy manouevering of

    the rig on site.

Effective soil displacement increases load carryingcapacity of the pile.

When working in contaminated areas, expensive

disposal of contaminated drill spoil is avoided.

Commercially advantageous due to high drilling output

and minimal disposal of drill spoil.

Ideally suited to homogenous granular soils of up to

    medium dense state of compaction.

    Diameters 400 - 600 mm

    Drill ing depth 10 - 28 m

    Soil Mixing Wall System (SMW)

Mixing self-hardening slurry in-situ with native soil (SMW system)

offers a cost-effective technique for the construction of cut-offand retaining walls.

When drilling and pushing the mixing tool into the ground with

three independent rotary drives, the soil is broken down and mixed

with the slurry which is continuously injected through the drill stem.

The absence of spoil removal and the utilisation of the native soil

as a construction material increase the cost-effectiveness of the

    technique.

A continuous wall is constructed by installing overlapping individual

primary and secondary wall elements in an alternating sequence.

The verticality of the wall is monitored by

    automatic inclinometer measurements in the

    outer drill stems.

Compressive strengths ranging from 2 MPa

(for cut-off walls) to 8 -10 MPa (for retainingwalls) can be achieved depending on type

    of soil and cement content.

    Wall thickness 350 - 550 mm

    Depth 8 - 15 m

Torque and vertical crowd force are transferred by telescopic kelly bars

to the cutting teeth of the tool. The lockable kelly bars have the following

    characteristic design features:

Six drive keys with large lock recesses for transfer of torque and

    crowd

    Spring-mounted shock absorber unit

Standardised square kelly drive stub for all drilling tools.

Drilling depths up to 100 m

Transfer of torque ranging from 120 kNm to 480 kNm

BAUER drilling tools have been designed

for heavy duty BG rig applications and

have been developed on our own construc-

tion sites to reach serial production status.

Single or double start augers (SB)

fitted with cutting teeth are used for

    drilling in unsaturated soils.

For cutting into rock tapered rock

augers (SBF-P) and rock augers (SBF)

are employed faced with round shank chisels.

Saturated soft to hard soils are generally

cut and excavated by drilling buckets

(KB). A large ventilat ion pipe incorporat-

ed into the tool prevents the formation of

a vacuum during extraction of the tool.

Drilling buckets KBF are used for dense

soil and soft to medium rock.

Hard rock formations can be pre-cut with

coring buckets KRR. The cutting ring of

coring buckets is faced either with tungsten

carbide inserts or round shank chisels.

Coring buckets KRR-M with rock roller

bits are used for cutting in very hard rock.

Double-walled drill casings are used as support for the borehole

wall and in the construction of pile walls. 2 - 6 m long casing

sections are joined together by way of casing joints secured by

casing screws to form a drill string. Special casing shoes faced with cutting teeth facilitate easy

penetration of the soil. Drill casings can be drilled into the ground

by the rotary drive. In this case the casings are connected to the

rotary drive by way of a casing adapter. Automatic casing

adapters can be employed to increase both site safety and

    productivity.

By inserting a torque converter between rotary drive and casing

adapter the torque for installing the casing string can be doubled.

For heavy-duty casing operations a hydraulic casing oscillator is

attached to the undercarriage of the

drilling rig and connected to the on-

    board hydraulic system.
