Tourist attractions in Jeollabuk-do

Modern History Museum This museum demonstrateshow Gunsan acted as a trade port and was at the center ofmarine distribution in the past. Modern cultural heritage isdisplayed inside the museum.

Gunsan Country Club(golf course) The largestdomestic golf field is 4.2m2 long and features 81 holes connectedby ponds. Gunsan C.C is the only golf field in the world that isfloating above a lake.

Jeonju Korean Traditional Village Jeonju is the oneof biggest cities in Jeollabukdo and is part of the Slow CityMovement. This city boasts of its Hanok Village as a landmark.There are over 800 traditional Korean 'hanok' houses. Thesehouses retain Jeonju’s historical charms and traditions.

Imsil Lake Okjungho This picturesque lake is large inscale with a total volume of water amounting to 430 million tons.The Okjeongho Dam blocks the upstream of Seomjingang River.The early morning view of the thick fog lingering above the stillwater is especially breathtaking to see in autumn.

Jeong-eup Mt. Naejang Naejangsan is a famousmountain in Jeollabuk-do, and the best mountain in Korea forviewing autumn’s crimson leaves. The park is 76,032 sq. km. insize and became a National Park along with the BaekyangsaDistrict.

Gochang Mt. Seonunsan Mt. Seonunsanis a populardestination throughout all four seasons. The fall season offers amesmerizing view of crimson leaves and the 1,500-year old SeonunsaTemple. In Gocahng, a UNESCO registered Dolmen site, serves asproof that the area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age.

Namwon Gwang-hallu A palace on the moon, Gwang-hallu,is famous as the location where Lee Mong-ryong and Chunhyang (twolovers from a well-known Korean folk story) first met. On May 5th ofevery year, the garden is the venue of the Chunhyangjae Festival,celebrating the deep and lasting love of the famous couple.

Buan Naesosa Temple Naesosa Temple was built byBuddhist Monk Hye-Gu in 633 AD. The Daeungbojeon (main hall)was built at this time. In 1986, the temple area (radius of 500m)was named a culturally protected area.

Seonyu Island Seonyudo is the central island, which makesup Gogunsan archipelago. This island is known for its secretiveplaces where ancient hermits hang out because of its naturalbeauty.

Wolmyung Park Located in the middle of Gunsan city,cherry blossoms and camellia flowers in this park are fullybloomed. During the fall season, autumn leaves attract visitorsand citizens. On the mountain top, both Geumgang river and theWest sea come into sight.

Eunpa Lakeshore Park The road that runs up from thepark entrance is lined with cherry trees that create a breathtakingtunnel of pink flowers each spring. Mulbit Bridge, a landmark of theEunpa tourist site, offers an impressive view of the Music Fountainand nightscape. At the park, you’ll also find an inline skating area, awaterfront stage, and a lotus flower garden.

Saemangeum Sea Dyke Saemangeum Dyke, with itstotal length reaching 33.9km, is recorded to be the longest seawall in the world. It is part of the reclaiming land project meantto expand Korean territory.

Imsil Cheese Theme Park The Imsil Cheese ThemePark was established in 1958 by Ji Jeong-Hwan, a Belgium priestwho came to town as a missionary. The Imsil cheese industry,which started with a mere 2 mountain goats, has become amajor industry in the town, even inspiring a theme park with itslocal flavor.

Jin-ahn Mt. Mai Mt. Mai is on the Jin-an Plateau which is 6to 12 miles in diameter, located between the range of Mt.Noryeong and Mt. Sobaek. This mountain is named after it twopeaks that look like the ears of a horse.

Muju Deokyusan Resort(Ski Resort) DeogyusanResort (formerly Muju Resort) is one of Korea’s most famousmountain peak ski resorts. Covering an area of over sevenmillion square meters, the resort is located in one of Korea’sbeautiful national parks, and was specially designed toharmonize with its natural surroundings.
