APPLICATION OF THE NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN HISTORYCAL

GEOGRAPHY: HGIS APPLICATION AND ITS OPPORTUNITIES

The shortest definition of the historical geography that it is a scienceabout man's relation to his geographical environment, the relationship of a specificgeographic area at a particular time, and that is bring together geographic area andthe lives of people in the past. As a synthesis of two sciences, history andgeography, the humanities and the natural, historical geography have a prerequisiteto the application of new technologies, not only to accelerate the research, but alsowiden and deepen existing knowledge necessary for further understanding therelations and interrelations in the context of space-time. The applying newtechnologies in historical geography, especially GPS and GIS, have led in recentyears to the creation of historical geographical information system so called HGIS(HGIS-Historical Geographic Information System), in which the underlyinghistorical data in addition to geographical places, as his attribute.

Although fairly new, this technological approach has already gained manyadherents among contemporary historiography, and its advantages over traditionalmethods of recognition, such as the ability to link existing data in a specific way, orthat the database used in many ways, become more apparent. It is necessary topoint out that the use of HGIS, not only leads to conditions for spotting new factsand relationships, and even setting up new questions, but also enables the testing ofexisting theory or model.

Summary

BOUNDARIES AND PARISH OF THE "ZEMLJE" DRINA

This article is a historical-geographical survey on upper valley of Drinariver in Middle Ages. The first part of this article deals with determinig borders ofMedieval landof Drina. Because of the small number of preserved contemporarysources we must rely on physical geography of that area which can help us noticenatural borders, like monutains and rivers that are easier to defend. The secondpart, again based on analyses of medieval sources and physical geography alongwith archeology, deals with reconstruction of medieval territorial administrativeorganization. Land of Drina consisted of several districts (Serb. upa), basicterritorial units. The main district in this landwas Drina, but it also included thedistricts: Drinaljevo, Gobza, Bistrica, Gorade, Pribud and Piva. The research

results are presented on the historical map.

CHURCH IN THE TRG (SQUARE)

In the r of Branievo in the late Middle Ages status of the square hadbeen the village Subotica and Kiseljevo the banks of the Danube , Kula (Tower)

on the river Vitovnica, etonje on the river Mlava, Gornjak at the entrance to theGornjak gorge, and a certain Gospoince in Homolje and Subotica addressed. Afterthe Ottoman conquest of Serbia in 1459, in the second half of the fifteenth centurysquares (markets) there are the villages of Subotica and Oraje in nahija Resava,Kula, Starci (then abari) and drelo in nahija drelo, Luica and Topolovnik innahija Luica and Gospoince in nahija Homolje. Reliable data about the founderand origin time Trg church (Sqare church) there, but architecture and everythingelse pointing to the time before the reign of King Milutin, ie. up to half of thethirteenth century. Sources tell us nothing about the church at the time of theSerbian state. In his long history several times destroyed and rebuilt, wherein theoriginal architecture often moderated, which deviated from the originalappearance.

Exarch Jovan Mihailovic in his report to the Metropolitan in early 1734recorded that the church was built around 1275. In any case, the church was builtlater during the reign of King Milutin. Hundred years later, in the reign of PrinceLazar, namely 1382/83. year, added onto the narthex, as the inscriptions on thestone wall above the cornice of the west facade of pitch. Somewhere in the thirddecade of the fifteenth century occurred severe damage to the temple during whichthe narthex suffered most, which are the remains of its walls removed, and left onlythe foundations. Rebuilding completed 1429/30. year, which informs us of thestone inscription, which says that it was done in "days blagoestivago despot Gorga(Djurdja)" at the request of Protopresbyter Kuzma. It was restored only originalpart, while the outer narthex left only based on a width of about one meter and 60centimeters deep. Solid foundations indicate the narthex larger scale, perhaps witha tower. The church was re-consecrated by Bishop Stefan, probably in December1728, when the Metropolitan Moses sent to Pozarevac went to consecrate thechurch in Homolje. The church was rebuilt and how it was maintained, but themost serious renovation completed at the end of the eighteenth century, probablyin 1796. Then he got the iconostasis.

The church was repaired and somewhere around 1830 but really seriousrenovation was carried out 1863/4. with financial assistance from a reputable dealerfrom agubica Lambra Djordjevic. On that occasion, he rebuilt the narthex.

Last rehabilitation and conservation works were carried out before 20 andmore years during which he again demolished newly built narthex. Church in 1985became a nunnery.

Although the literature usually states that the early church was dedicated toSt. Nicholas, in fact it was all the time dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.

ATTESTATION POAREVAC OWNSPEOPLE

TO METROPOLITAN VICENT JOVANOVIC

During the first half of the 18th century, the territory of present-day Branievo

dioceses belonged to the Metropolitan of Belgrade. Inclusion Branievo dioceses

within the Belgrade Archbishopric was performed after the Vienna War, which

brought major changes in the territorial organization of Serbian Diocese of the

Habsburg monarchy and the Ottoman Empire. In an area that had previously

belonged to the diocese organized Branicevo less administrative area - Exarchate,

the Center, in which he spent one of mitropolit Exarch. Among Pozarevac exarchs

known to us Maksim Nestorovi, Nikanor Pavlovic, Maksim Radkovi and Jovan

Mihailovic.

At the time of the Austrian government central parts of present-day Serbia,

Pozarevac was not only the seat of the church area - exarchate, but also

administrative and military center. As a major urban community, he had his pen-

Prince, which is in front Poarevac citizens and residents around Poarevac District

actively participated in all the important issues that concerned the life of Serbian

people under the rule of the new masters. At the national-ecclesiastical synods were

recorded participation pen-princes Malen, Ognjen Milkovi and Nesko Sivric. In

various documents recorded the names of pen-princes Momir Velisavljevi and

Petar Vidojevic. Pen-princes, also participated in solving problems related to the

parish and parishioners attitude towards priests and ministers of mitropolit. One
