Advantages : Brickwork is cheaper than the stonework. Construction method of brickwork is simple.

Disadvantages : Stonework is stronger than brickwork. Brickwork is less water tight than stonework.

Constituents of Brick:1. Silica 55%

2. Alumina 30%3. Iron Oxide 8%4. Magnesia 5%5. Lime 1%

BURNING :

For burning 1 lack bricks need 18 tons

coal,100 mon chalk,25 mon tires.

QUALITIES OF GOOD BRICKS :

Bricks should be uniform in color, size and shape.

They should be sound & compact.

Should be neither overburnt or underburnt.

Should not change in volume when wetted. Compressive strength should be in the range 5,000 to

8,000 etc.
