Competition Rules (Before Commencement)

1. Report at the competition area at least 15 minutes before commencement time.

2. Bring along NRIC for verification.

3. Let the Experts check all tools and other materials brought into the competition area.

4. To be properly attired.

5. Not allowed to bring in or use any of the following devices during competition:

- MP3 player, iPod or any form of musical player - Mobile phone - Personal Laptop, Tablet or any Electronic gadgets that are not

part of the competition provision.

1. Not allowed to leave competition area during the first 30 minutes of competition.

2. Will be assigned work area and machines by the Experts.

3. Will be given materials and competition project sheets together with instructions.

4. Will be given adequate time to study project sheet and ask questions.

5. Will be given a number to identify project.

6. Will be informed of the actual time allocated for competition project.

1. Responsible for own tools, materials and equipment.

2. May request for additional materials but this may lead to a reduction of marks.

3. Are not allowed to move tools, materials and equipment from designated work area.

4. Should ensure proper housekeeping during competition.

5. Should work within the designated work area.

6. Are not allowed to communicate with any person.

7. Should seek permission of Experts before entering or leaving the competition area.

8. Must be accompanied by a person authorised by the Chief Expert when leaving the competition area for personal reasons.

1. Responsible to hand over respective projects to the Experts.

2. Will be given instructions on the return of tools and cleaning of work areas/machines.

3. May leave the competition area only with permission from Experts.

1. Organisers shall not be responsible for any mishap that may happen during the competition. Competitors are advised to take up their own insurance policy.

2. Competitors must observe all safety rules and regulations. Any disputes or grievances should be raised with and settled by the Chief Expert during the competition only.

3. Competitors may be disqualified and expelled from competition, if found guilty of any dishonest acts, misconduct or failure to comply with instructions.

4. Decision of the Experts will be final.

Competitors must:

1. Familiarise themselves with the safety rules and regulations pertaining to their specific skills area.

2. Wear protective clothing - overall, dust-coat or work uniform where required.

3. Wear safety shoes where required.

4. Do not sport long hair for male competitors. Female competitors must tie up their long hair or wear a scarf/headband to prevent them from being caught in rotating parts of equipment.

5. Do not wear dangling necklaces or any other metallic chains.

Team Managers

1. Be responsible for the conduct and attendance of the competitors.

2. To ensure that your competitors observe all the rules & regulations of the competition.

3. To act as a spokesman for the competitors during the competition, if necessary.

4. Be present during the competition to take care of their respective competitor(s).

5. To SEEK APPROVAL from the Chief Expert before entering the competition area.

1. Competitors are not allowed to communicate with any person during the competition without the permission of the Chief Expert. If there is really a need for communication, an independent Expert or Invigilator must be present.

2. During the competition, the Team Manager can have access to his competitors in the competition site with the approval of the Chief Expert. However, access should not be misused to exchange technical information or solution.

3. Competitors are to honour the commitment of not communicating technical information about the execution of and solution to the competition project with any person outside competition hours, at home or any place during competition period.

Grievances/Complaints

1. Grievances/complaints may be raised by the competitor or his Team Manager.

2. If the grievance/complaint comes from the competitor, the Chief Expert will listen to it in the presence of at least 2 other Experts, one of whom should be from the institution of the competitor.

3. If the grievance/complaint comes from the Team Manager, it must be in writing.

4. Any grievances/complaints must be lodged on the same day of the incident, otherwise it shall be void.

5. The Chief Expert will resolve any grievances/complaints.

6. The Chief Expert may consult the Jury Panel where necessary.

7. Decision of the Jury Panel is Final.

Meals and Refreshment

1. Meal vouchers will be issued to all competitors for the competitions.

2. Competitors will take their lunch at Central Delights Cafeteria (Block C, Level 4). Central Delights Cafeteria will close at 3pm.

3. Breakfast will not be provided for competitors as some of the competitions start very early and the food court’s stalls will not be ready. Competitors are advised to have their breakfast at home.

4. Refreshments (biscuits and mineral water, etc) will be provided at the respective competition areas.

Note 1. The Experts reserve the right not to award Gold, Silver

and/or Bronze medal(s), should the standard of the competition falls below expectation.

2. The cash award for the team events (Mechatronics & Mobile Robotics) will be shared equally between the 2 team members.

3. Team Managers will be notified to collect the cheques on behalf of the competitors after the Closing Ceremony.

4. All competitors will each receive a Certificate of Participation.

Awards for WSS 2016 Winners

Gold Medallist - Gold Medal & S$3,000 cash

Silver Medallist - Silver Medal & S$2,000 cash

Bronze Medallist - Bronze Medal & S$1,000 cash

1. Winners of WSS 2016 who meet the competency standards will be considered for selection to represent Team Singapore at the 44th WorldSkills Competition (WSC) to be held in Abu Dhabi from 14 to 19 Oct 2017.

2. Selected competitors will be given further mental and skills training to prepare them for the WSC through residential Peak Performance Training Camp. Attendance is compulsory.

3. Singapore winners at the WSC will receive the following cash prizes:

• Gold Medallist : S$7,000 ($20,000)* + ($30,000)**

• Silver Medallist : S$5,000 ($10,000)*

• Bronze Medallist : S$3,000 ($5,000)*

• Medallion for Excellence : Nil ($1,000)*
