– They have quite a few team there that can be considered minor league.

• School girls are ushers signaling foul balls.• Their games can end in a tie.• Fans cheer for each batter that comes to the plate.– Each batter has his own cheer.

Baseball in Washington• Washington has a professional baseball

team the Mariners.– They have not won a world series yet but they

have had some great players over time.

– Many Japanese people like the Mariners because of the players they had, Ichiro Suzuki and Hisashi Iwakuma.

– There is quite a few of Mariners fans now because they are starting to become good again.

Connections

• They have the same rules.– Japanese baseball is about 50 years behind

American baseball but they are developing it to their customs.

• They both can use foreign players on the teams.

• They both have great and dedicated fans.• The players make quite a bit of money. (430

1873(early Meiji era). – Introduced by Horace Wilson a professor at Kaisei Gakko

(Tokyo Unizersity)• In 1873 Albert Bates, an American teaching

at Kaitaku University organized the first game. – The first Japanese baseball team, the Shinbashi Athletic

Club Athletics were organized in 1878 by railway engineer Hiroshi Hiraoka.
