Lasciata Piazza Madonna delle Grazie a Ponticelli di Scandriglia, si passa vicino a un lavatoio a monte della strada provinciale e si attraversa un gruppo di case e poi un avvallamento per risalire sul lato opposto lungo una strada bianca. Dopo circa 1 km, attraversata la SP 40, si cammina ancora sulla strada bianca, poi asfaltata, fino a raggiungere la frazione di Poggio Corese. Qui si prosegue per un breve tratto sulla provinciale e, superato il bar trattoria, si imbocca unaltra strada bianca sulla sinistra. Attraversato il ponte sul fondo valle si risale per incrociare la strada per Nerola. Interessante qui da visitare il Castello Orsini situato su un ripido sperone dei Monti Lucretili a circa 50 km da Roma.Si procede ora attraverso gli uliveti fino allabitato di Acquaviva di Nerola. Si imbocca la strada a sinistra (>> dopo circa 600 m sulla destra lultimo tratto della deviazione di Farfa) attraverso la campagna scendendo fino al fondo valle per poi risalire verso Montelibretti nel cui centro medievale si incontra Palazzo Barberini. A questo punto del cammino gli uliveti delle colline dellalta Sabina lasciano il posto a sterminati frutteti. Si esce dal paese per Via Vignacce scendendo verso Selva Grande per poi svoltare a sinistra in Via Nomentana Antica, che si percorre fino a incrociare la Strada della Neve per proseguire verso il Molino e la Torre della Fiora ( prevista la realizzazione di una variazione allattuale tracciato su asfalto che interessa i comuni di Moricone e Palombara Sabina, lambendo la stazione termale delle Terme di Cretone). Cambia ancora il paesaggio che acquista il colore delloro, per le coltivazioni di frumento e foraggio che tappezzano le colline. Superata una collinetta e un fosso si risale verso Via di Grotta Marrozza e poi Via Castelchiodato. Da qui si riprende la Via Salaria per raggiungere Monterotondo, a ovest del quale, sui colli orientali della valle del Tevere, sorge la rocca Orsini Barberini, risalente allXI-XII sec.

Leave Piazza Madonna delle Grazie in Ponticelli di Scandriglia, go near the washing fountain at the top of the provincial road and cross into a group of houses and then a dip in the road to go back up to the opposite side along a white road. After about 1 km cross the Provincial Road SP 40, keep walking on the white road, which becomes paved, until you get to the village of Poggio Corese. Continue for a short time on the provincial road, pass a bar trattoria, get into another white road on the left. Cross the bridge on the bottom of the valley until you encounter to the road to Nerola. Here you might find it interesting to visit the Orsini Castle on a steep rock part of the Lucretili Mountains, about 50 km from Rome. Continue through the olives groves until the hamlet of Acquaviva di Nerola. Turn into the road on the left (>>after about 600 m on the right hand side, the last part of the Farfa diversion) through the countryside descending to the bottom of the valley and then climb back up towards Montelibretti, where you can see the Barberini Palace in the medieval centre. At this point in the walk the olive groves of the Alta Sabina hills stop and endless fruit orchards take their place. Leave the town following Via Vignacce descending towards Selva Grande and then turn left into Via Nomentana Antica. Continue on it until you come across the Strada della Neve (The Snow Road) and continue towards Molino and Torre della Fiore (a variation to the current paved path through the municipalities of Moricone and Palombara Sabina, near the Terme di Cretone Spa, has been planned). The scenery changes again and it becomes golden because of the wheat and forage cultivations covering the hills. Walk over a hill and a creek and climb again towards Via di Grotta Marrozza and then Castelchiodato. From here, take the Via Salaria again to reach Monterotondo. To the west rises the Orsini Barberini fortress, which dates back to the 11-12th century, over the eastern hills in the Tiber valley.

Ripartendo dal Duomo di Monterotondo si attraversa uno dei pi tipici e suggestivi tratti dellagro romano. Si scende per Via SantAngelo per poi risalire e quindi ridiscendere verso Valle Ricca, che segna il limite del Comune di Roma. Si entra nel Parco della Marcigliana per Via di Santa Colomba e si svolta poi a sinistra scendendo lungo la strada sterrata. Nel Parco della Marcigliana fu scoperto il sito di Crustumerium, tra le citt pi antiche del Lazio protostorico. Virgilio la collocava tra le cinque citt che costruivano le armi usate dalle popolazioni dellItalia centrale per combattere Enea. La citt latina di Crustumerium sorgeva su delle alture dominanti la pianura del Tevere, a controllo della via Salaria. Gi dalla prima Et del Ferro (X-IX sec a.C.) linsediamento occupava una superficie di 60 ettari costituita da gruppi di capanne. La sua importanza strategica attir le mire dei Romani che ne tentarono ripetutamente la conquista. Pare che Romolo, assieme alle Sabine, avesse rapito anche donne di Crustumerium, ma la citt cadde definitivamente in mani romane solo nel 499 a.C. La Soprintendenza Archeologica di Roma ha realizzato un itinerario archeologico-naturalistico allinterno di una delle necropoli della citt, proprio per consentire al visitatore di prendere direttamente contatto con i resti antichi, in particolare con le sepolture e con le riproduzioni degli oggetti di corredo, collocate nel medesimo modo in cui gli originali sono stati rinvenuti.Uscendo dal parco si continua lungo via Tor San Giovanni poi Via della Bufalotta e Viale Adriatico. Si sale poi una breve scalinata sulla sinistra che conduce a Via di Monte Argentario e poi a destra per Via Titano per raggiungere la Chiesa dei SS. Angeli Custodi in Piazza Sempione che rappresenta, per il quartiere di Monte Sacro, una delle opere pi caratteristiche, grazie al suo spettacolare impianto che d quasi un immaginario benvenuto a chi giunge nel quartiere, concludendo alla perfezione, sul lato est, laltrettanto scenografica Piazza Sempione.

Starting again from the Monterotondo Cathedral you walk through one of the Roman countrysides most picturesque and fascinating parts. Descend along Via SantAngelo, climb and then descend again towards Valle Ricca, which marks the limit of the Rome Municipality. Enter the Marcigliana Park through Via Santa Colomba and then turn left along the dirt road. The Marcigliana Park was where they discovered the Crustumerium site, one of the oldest cities in protohistoric Lazio. Virgil placed it among the five cities that built the weapons used by populations from central Italy to fight Aeneas. The Latin city of Crustumerium rose on some heights over the Tiber plane, overseeing the Via Salaria. Even back in the first Iron Age (10-9th century BC) the settlement occupied a 60 hectares area made up of a group of huts. Its strategic importance attracted the Romans attention, and they repeatedly tried to conquer it. Apparently Romulus abducted women from Crustumerium as well as the Sabines, but the city finally fell in Roman hands for good only in 499 BC. The Archaeological superintendence in Rome has created an archaeological-naturalistic route inside one of the citys necropolis, in order to allow the visitor to be in close contact with the ancient remains, especially with the burial sites and with the reproductions of the decorative items, which have been placed in the same positions they were found in. Leave the park and continue along via Tor San Giovanni then Via della Bufalotta and Viale Adriatico. Climb up the short flight of steps on the left that leads to Via di Monte Argentario and then to the right towards Via Titano until you get to the Church of the Saints Guardian Angels in Piazza Sempione, one of the most significant works in the Monte Sacro neighbourhood, with its spectacular layout almost welcoming anybody entering the neighbourhood and perfectly closing off the also stunning Piazza Sempione on the Eastern side.

Si lascia Piazza Sempione dirigendosi verso il centro percorrendo Via Nomentana. Subito dopo il ponte sullAniene, si svolta a destra in Via Valsolda e si imbocca la pista ciclo-pedonale che segue il corso del fiume. Attraversata la Via Salaria allaltezza dellincrocio con Viale Somalia, si prosegue lungo la pista tra la Via Olimpica e Monte Antenne, per raggiungere Via della Moschea e Viale Maresciallo Pilsudski; si passa poi vicino allAuditorium Parco della Musica e al Palazzetto dello Sport, svoltando quindi a destra per Viale Tiziano fino a raggiungere e attraversare Ponte Milvio, uno dei pi antichi (IV-III secolo a.C.) e importanti ponti dellUrbe, presso cui confluivano, oltre alle vie Cassia e Flaminia, anche la Clodia e la Veientana. Era inizialmente di legno; poi fu rifatto ex-novo e prese il nome del magistrato che ne autorizz la costruzione in muratura, tale Molvius, donde Molvio e quindi Milvio.La pista prosegue lungo la riva destra del Tevere. Allaltezza di Ponte SantAngelo la si lascia e si sale la scala che conduce al livello stradale, di fronte a Via della Conciliazione, in fondo alla quale si staglia in tutta la sua imponenza la Basilica di San Pietro, sotto il cui altare centrale, poco distante dal luogo in cui sorgeva il Circo di Nerone, stata ritrovata la Tomba di Pietro, lapostolo a cui Ges affid il compito di guidare la Chiesa. Raggiunta la Piazza e lufficio dellOpera Romana Pellegrinaggi possiamo finalmente ritirare il nostro Testimonium.

Leave Piazza Sempione and head towards the centre walking along the Via Nomentana. Immediately after the bridge over the Aniene river, turn right into Via Valsolda and take the cycling-walking path that follows the river. Cross Via Salaria when it crosses Viale Somalia, continue along the path between the Via Olimpica and Monte Antenne, reach Via della Moschea and Viale Maresciallo Pilsudski; walk by the Auditorium Parco della Musica (Music Park) and the Palazzetto dello Sport, then turn right into Viale Tiziano until you reach and cross the Milvio Bridge, one of the most ancient (4-3rd century BC) and important bridges of the Urbe, which receives the Clodia and Veientana Roads, as well as the Cassia and the Flaminia. It was initially a wooden bridge; it was then redone completely and it took the name of the magistrate that authorized its masonry construction, called Molvius, hence Molvio and then Milvio.The path continues along the right bank of the Tiber. When you reach the SantAngelo Bridge leave it and climb the steps that lead to the road, in front of Via della Conciliazione. At the bottom, you will see St Peters Basilica rising in all its splendour. Peters Tomb was found under its main altar, not far from the place where Neros circus rose. He was the apostle Jesus had entrusted with guiding the Church. When we reach the Square and the Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi (The Vaticans pilgrimage office), we can finally pick up our Testimonium.
