    What is

    CanalAVIST

    a digital media channel of the trans-Eurasia

    Information Network (TEIN) Research andEducation Network under the ASEAN Committeeon Science and Technology (COST), and a part ofthe ASEAN Virtual Institute of Science andTechnology (AVIST) and the ASEAN Science and

    Technology Research Education Network Alliance(ASTRENA)

    CanalAVIST

    provides channels for seamless education,teaching, conferencing, lectures and talks, inthe context of ASEAN, in order to providerapid dissemination and sustainable sharingof knowledge, information and data.

    CanalAVIST relies on existing country research and

    education network facility to deliver lectures over

    TEIN3+APAN to respective member countries. With

    TEIN3 and APAN, we can deliver real-time lectures

    from the US via Internet*2 and Europe via GEANT2 to

    ASEAN member countries. Hence CanalAVISTs main

    function is to co-ordinate the lecture series and

    organizing events on existing research and educationnetwork infrastructure.

    How works

    creating multiple nodes of video conferencingcapability throughout ASEAN;

    narrow-casting or multicasting in real-timelectures, talks, etc to multiple receiving nodesthroughout ASEAN or in quasi-real time, or for re-broadcasting at regular intervals;

    archiving such talks and training material andrepackaging them into learning material forasynchronous viewing in low bandwidth end-users or

    offline learning by CDROMs; and

    creating a rich repository of annotated and curatedtraining material for educators to use, re-use, re-purpose, synthesize, translate, subtitle, annotate etc.
