Reactions 1459 - 6 Jul 2013 S Capecitabine/trastuzumab Diarrhoea, weight loss and cardiac dysfunction in an elderly patient: case report A 74-year-old man developed diarrhoea, weight loss and cardiac dysfunction during treatment with capecitabine and trastuzumab [dosages, routes and duration of treatments to onset of reactions not stated]. The man had distal oesophageal adenocarcinoma. He had tumour recurrence that was positive for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2. He started receiving capecitabine, trastuzumab and oxaliplatin. Due to the development of diarrhoea, weight loss and cardiac dysfunction, he received five cycles only [outcomes of ADRs not stated]. Subsequently, his disease progressed and his family decided to stop treatment. At last follow-up, he was in hospice care. Author comment: "The patient received five cycles only, because he developed diarrhoea, weight loss (common side effects of capecitabine) and cardiac dysfunction (common side effects of trastuzumab)."
