The Monolithic EcoShell Dome Oers Answer to HousingShortages in Developing Countriese name Monolithic means one piece and refers to the Monolithic DomeInstitute which developed the EcoShells.

EcoShells a re constructed with 2 or 3 inches of concrete and a modest amount of rebar.

EcoShells use less than 50% of concrete and rebar when compared to a conventional, rectangular building of the same square footage.

e compound curve of the dome makes it stronger than virtually any other structure.ey also take much less money and time to construct-- a small house can be built injust 3 days!

EcoShells are constructed of readily available and environment-friendly materials.Trees and other local natura l resources are conserved. Construction can be done byhiring local labor with very little special skills and/or equipment.

ese Domes are as disaster proof as a building can get. ey will withstandtornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, and fire. ey cannot be burned, eaten by bugs ordestroyed by mold. ey wil l last for centuries. And because of the concretes thermalmass, interior temperatures remain stable.

Sustainable buildings, according to the U.S. GreenBuilding Council, save energy, water and materials;preserve the local surroundings; assure the health of theiroccupants; and require little maintenance.

Mr. Perry Gray-Reneberg, professor of industrialtechnology at Humboldt University, says, MonolithicDomes [and EcoShells] inherently resist the wasting ofmore precious resources in that they sustain human lifeand protect our considerable investment of time. Wework to build, commune with nature and one another,

and thrive as a culture and society. If our structures areno sanctuary from stray bullets, indiscriminate winds, devouring insects, or raging res, then they are notsustaining. Monolithic Domes [and EcoShells] demandour labor once to assure the security of ten generations tofollow.

Building for the future involves community-wide eort toeducate public servants and economic leaders with whatour grandchildren will have as common sense: MonolithicDomes [and EcoShells] sustain all communities of Earth.

EcoShell Construction Is Simplee EcoShell starts as a combination ring-beam footing and concrete slab floorreinforced with steel rebar. Vertical steel bars embedded in the outer ring later attachto the steel reinforcing of the dome itself.

An Airform -- fabricated to the proper shape and size -- is attached to the ring base.Using blower fans, it is inflated and creates the shape of the structure to be completed.e fans run throughout construction of the dome.

A grid of vertical and horizontal rebar is placed over the exterior of the Airform. everticals go against the Airform and the horizontals on the outside.

Next, enough concrete is applied to the exterior of the Airform to embed the rebar andcan be trowelled smooth.

After the concrete has set, the Airform is removed from the inside and re-used.

e rebar, stil l showing on the inside, is brushed with a wire brush to remove any loosematerial. en a finish coat of concrete is applied to the inside surface.

Technology has thankfully shrunkenour world to the extent that we canno longer ignore the plight of ourneighbors and has given us the meansby which we can take better care ofeach other. We must do that. There isreally no other option.

    the Monolithic EcoShell Dome.

e Domes ForeWorld Foundationsmission is to improve thelives of people worldwide

through the introductionand construction ofMonolithic Domes andEcoShells for personaland public use.

We wil l initiate andcoordinate effortsto alleviate storage, shelter and housingshortcomings instruggling cultures andimpoverished lands.

We wil l seek out grantsand donations tofund construction ofpermanent, affordable, sanitary, and safestructures for those

who have none. We willtrain local peoples in ourmethods of constructionand transfer ourtechnology.

Catalytic Software in Hyderabad, India has a complete city made entirely ofEcoShell Domes. These buildings are much taller than those we are building inother countries. These are three stories tall and house up to six families, each.
