Per Rèdais il concetto di sostenibilità si traduceessenzialmente, in fase progettuale ed esecutiva,

nell’utilizzo di un sistema ambientale, complesso eintegrato, basato sull’attenzione per la salute e il

benessere umano da un lato e sulla correttagestione dell’ambiente e del territorio, nel suo

sistema globale di risorse, dall’altro.L’opera di Rèdais è visibile a Casal Bertone, è quì che

stiamo ultimando il primo plurifamiliare di Romacon la doppia certificazione: energetica (Classe A

CasaClima) ed energetica-ambientale (Leed).L’edificio non è che l’inizio, infatti Rèdais sta

lavorando al progetto di eco-quartiere a CasalBertone, per ricreare un quartiere a dimensione

d’uomo. Particolare attenzione viene prestata allamobilità come strumento per una migliore vivibilità:

percorsi ciclo-pedonali e linee di trasposto perdiminuire l’afflusso di traffico,

ma anche viali alberati, giardini e orti urbani peraumentare le zone verdi e servizi efficienti,

che gestiscano nel tempo attività di partecipazione,condivisione e coinvolgimento attivo degli abitanti.Tutti gli interventi proposti sono imprescindibili dalconcetto di bellezza, infatti crediamo che un sistema

bello sia anche più funzionale.

Rèdais's concept of sustainability is primarilyillustrated in the planning and realization of anintegrated environmental systems focusing onindividual human welfare on the one hand andon the other the management of theenvironment and territory.Redais's work is evidenced in Casal Bertoneresidential complex, where we are finishing thefirst apartment building in Rome with doubleenvironmental certification: Energy (Class AClimateHouse) and energy-environmental (Leed).However this building is only the beginning.Rèdais is working on the project of Casal Bertone Eco-District, aimed at re-creating aneighbourhood on a human scale with particularattention being given to role of mobility inimproving urban liveability. Circulation routes,understood both as abstract systems ofmovement to be that need to be regulated,whether they be walking paths or the largerurban transportation, and as physical urbanenvironment components with their own rulesand requirements, that require aesthetic care intheir conception and realization. Indeed theconcept of beauty is essential to all proposedinterventions as we believe a beautiful system isalso a better functioning system.

Rèdais’s activity illustrates that it is possible torealize a critical mass of public opinion around the

theme of the future urban development. During 2010 a series of vital events were held that

raised the level of social commitment on the part ofItalian and European institutions. Notable examples

were the conference Energy-Year Program, themembership of the Sustainable Energy Week and

the participation in the European project Cat-Med.In the application and spread of sustainable

principles, Rèdais creates and manages communityprojects as part of sustainable urban development,

designing solutions for complex services,consulting to public and private companies,

adapting to changing conditions and needs ofdifferent areas and communities. Rèdais’s system

responds to the various requirementsexperimenting methods, that combine experience

and innovation, working in synergy with manyactors for sustainable development.

Dalla prima analisi del progetto isola ambientaleCasal Bertone, sono emerse criticità e risorse che

danno a Casal Bertone la sua identità attuale. In primo luogo Casal Bertone è una periferia

centrale di Roma in cui il carattere della vita dellacittà italiana tradizionale è ancora presente:strade, piccoli negozi, luoghi di incontro, una

piccola area pedonale, tutto supporta unamigliore qualità della vita. L'altra cartteristicafondamentale deriva dai confini del quartiere,contiguo all'area di San Lorenzo, Pigneto e alla

nuova stazione Tiburtina dell'alta velocità; inoltreCasal Bertone è delimitato dalla tangenziale,dall'autostrada A 24 e dalla ferrovia regionale. Queste infrastrutture necessarie alla vita della

città, minano lo charmes della città del passato. Il progetto isola ambientale Rèdais ricerca il punto

di equilibrio tra i due aspetti precedenti, inparticolar modo è stata data attenzione alleconnessioni fisiche e all'integrazione tra più

sistemi con l'obiettivo di far si che gli abitantiusufruiscano dello charmes della vita urbana

tradizionale, utilizzando le potenzialità della vita moderna.

From the analytical survey that was the first stepin Casal Bertone Eco-district Project thereemerged two fundamental yet potentiallyconflicting systems that give Casal Bertone itscontemporary identity. In the first place CasalBertone is an inner suburb of Rome where thecharms of traditional Italian urban life still hold:streets, shops, meeting places, alongside the smallpedestrian areas that sustain a better quality oflife. The other predominant characteristic comesfrom the boundaries of Casal Bertone. Contiguous to the areas of San Lorenzo, Pignetoand the new Fast Rail Train station of Tiburtina, thedistrict is delimited by the Eastern Bypass, accessto the A24 and the local rail network. These infrastructures are typically seen as a threatto the inner life of our cities, overwhelming thecharms of old with their physical might. Rèdais eco-district strategy is to privilege neitherone to the exclusion of the other but rather toimplement a just equilibrium between the two. In particular much attention has been given to theconnections and physical interfaces between thesystems with the final objective of allowing theresidents to continue enjoying the charms oftraditional urban life while fully enjoying thepotential offered by the modern.

Rèdais's work on the building and theneighborhood, is the result synergy between

professionals, universities, certification bodies,neighborhood associations and residents.

In particular, the certification under Leed and KlimaHaus provides a synergic

continuously work between the internal and external professional certifying bodies.

An international workshop saw the participation ofItalian and American students, under the

supervision of the Faculty of Architecture, SapienzaUniversity of Rome and Arkansas’s University.

The Cat-Med project has been supported by Roma Capitale and the faculty

of Engineering Sapienza University of Rome. Rèdais with Sapienza, Engineering Faculty, has

activated a research program, P.A.U.S.A.(Projects Sustainable Architecture and Urban

Planning for a good residential), working in unisonwith the neighborhood associations.

The first action in this social project is the realizationof an interactive web site that communicates thegroups work and findings contemporaneouslyconstituting a virtual “Agorà” for the residents,where they may enter the lab participate in adiscussion, to inform and to design workable

and shared ideas.

Rèdais lavora sull'edificio e sul quartiere in sinergiacon professionisti, Università, Enti dicertificazione, Associazioni di quartiere e abitanti.In particolar modo la certificazione CasaClima eLeed prevede un lavoro sinergico tra iprofessionisti interni ed esterni degli enticertificatori. Rèdais ha realizzato un workshopinternazionale che ha visto la partecipazione distudenti italiani e americani, sotto la guida dellafacoltà di Architettura, Sapienza Università diRoma e dell'Università Arkansas. Rèdais partecipa al progetto Cat-Med supportatoda Roma Capitale e dalla facoltà di Ingegneria,Sapienza Università di Roma. Rèdais con Sapienza,Facoltà di Ingegnieria, ha attivato un programmadi ricerca P.A.U.S.A. (Progetti di Architettura edUrbanistica Sostenibili per un buon Abitare), chelavora con le associazioni del quartiere.La prima azione del progetto sociale è la realizzazione di un sito di quartiere, per comunicare i lavori dei tesisti e contemporaneamente costituire un “Agorà” pergli abitanti in cui possano discutere, informare,condividere e progettare idee fattibili.

L'ipotesi è stata studiata dal gruppo di espertiRèdais e presto sarà presentata ai residenti per

proporre la realizzazione di un'isola ambientale chetrasformi il sistema della viabilità esistente,

riclassificando Via di Casal Bertone. Oggi Via di Casal Bertone è una via di scorrimentoveloce che attraversa il cuore del quartiere, nello

studio questa funzione sarà svolta da Via diPortonaccio, Via Alberto Pollio, Via Ettore

Fieramosca. Il limite di velocità su via di CasalBertone verrà ridimensionato da 50 Km/h a 30 km/hcon l'obiettivo di riqualificare il cuore del quartiere

assicurando uno spazio meno congestionato per gliutenti lenti, residenti , bambini, anziani e disabili.

L'obiettivo è la convivenza pacifica di diversi mezzi:pedoni, bicilette, moto e macchine, sviluppando

una mobilità alternativa anche con il bike sharing e il car sharing.

The hypothesis being studied by Rèdais’s collegeof experts and soon to be presented to theresidents for their input is the realization of anenvironmental island which transforms theexisting vehicular network, reclassifying Via diCasal Bertone and Via Portonaccio , Via AlbertoPollio - Via Ettore Fieramosca. Today Via di CasalBertone which passes through the heart of thedistrict is a moderate speed inter-districtthoroughfare. In the study at hand this functionwill be fulfilled by the later three. Traffic on Via diCasal Bertone will be restricted in volume andspeed, from 50 km/h to 30 km/h, with theprimary goal of recovering the heart of the districtproviding greater, less congested space to ‘slow’users, residents, children, elderly and the disabled.The goal is the peaceful coexistence of differentmeans, pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles andcars, by implementing an alternative mobility,such as car sharing and bike sharing.

The project involves the construction of the cyclenetwork in two phases: the first one will be

connect the main square to Pigneto and/or thetrain Station of Tiburtina, while in the second

phase local communter Station/PiazzalePrenestina will be connected with Piazza DeCristoforis, passing along Via Portonaccio.

Rèdais proposes itself as the vehicle for culturaldevelopment, the apartments have been defind,designed and built with a box for shared use torecharge the electric car, to continue with the

design of a bike sharing for residents and anotherfor the local school, creating specific productssuch as electrically assisted bicycles or folding. Other measures of environmental and social

sustainability of the district are: the connection,through a railway underpass, Snia Ex area, which

will be redeveloped and the recovery ofwarehouses and abandoned buildings to be

allocated to social housing, the creating agateway to the neighborhood to make it more

recognizable in the near future "Market Square",the creation of a separate collection system

through the creation of "ecological islands", theenhancement of archaeological sites in theneighborhood to encourage tourism and

educational attraction.

ll progetto prevede la realizzazione della reteciclabile in due fasi: nella prima fase verràcollegata la piazza principale (S. M. Consolatrice)al quartiere Pigneto e/o alla Stazione Tiburtina;nella seconda fase verrà collegata la StazionePrenestina e Piazzale Preneste a Piazza DeCristoforis, passando lungo Via di Portonaccio.Rèdais si propone come veicolo di sviluppoculturale, a partire dal plurifamiliare in cui é statoprogettato e realizzato un box ad usocondominiale per la ricarica della macchinaelettrica e car sharing, per continuare con laprogettazione di uno stallo per le bicicondominiale ed uno a servizio di una scuola,infine attraverso lo sviluppo di prodotti specifici,come biciclette a pedalata assistita e pieghevoli.Altri interventi allo studio, saranno sostenibili solocon l'utilizzo degli oneri concessori per realizzarele opere di uso pubblico, sono il collegamento,tramite un sottopassaggio ferroviario all’area ExSnia da riqualificare; il recupero di capannoni ededifici dismessi da destinare anche a socialhousing; la creazione di una porta d'ingresso alquartiere per renderlo riconoscibile in prossimitàdella futura “Piazza del mercato”; la creazione diun sistema di raccolta differenziata ancheattraverso la realizzazione di “isole ecologiche”; lavalorizzazione dei siti archeologici del quartiereper favorire l'attrazione turistico-didattica.

L' obiettivo é recuperare le potenzialità diquartiere a scala umana insite in Casal Bertone, labellezza e la vivibilità, con la creazione di una rete

verde che costituisca la struttura del quartierestesso. La proposta, in fase di studio, consiste

anche nella pedonalizzazzione dei due assi: ViaRicotti, attuale sede del mercato all'aperto e Via

Baldissera, continuazione del primo asseattraverso la Piazza Santa Maria Consolatrice,

attualmente pedonale e cuore del quartiere. Vistala carenza di spazi verdi di qualità all'interno del

quartiere saranno previsti altri interventi:valorizzazione delle aree esistenti, verdi e

dedicate allo sport, ai margini della ferroviaconvertendole in parte ad uso di orti urbani, confunzione sociale di incoraggiamento dell'auto-produzione e sostentamento per le residenze

sociali, orti didattici a beneficio degli studenti, lapiantumazione di nuove alberature lungo gli assidi Via Ettore Fieramosca - Via di Casal Bertone e

Via Cesare Ricotti - Via Antonio Baldissera;la realizzazione di muri verdi lungo il margine

ferroviario al fine di mitigarne l'impatto visivo ed acustico.

The goal is to reclaim the human scale of CasalBertone, with its beauty and livability, with thecreation of a green network that constitutes theinfrastructure of the neighborhood. It is proposedto pedestrianise the axes Via Ricotti, current seat ofthe open-air market, and Via Baldissera, thecontinuation of the first axis across the PiazzaSanta Maria Consolatrice, which is currently theheart of the district.In light of the lack of quality green spaces withinthe district different interventions aimed at theenhancement of existing green areas and sportareas in the margin by converting the railway toprivate urban gardens are foreseen, with the socialfunction of encouraging self production andlivelihood of social housing, and teaching gardensfor the benefit of students in neighboring schoolsin the intervention area; the planting of new treesalong the Via Ettore Fieramosca - Via di CasalBertone and Via Cesare Ricotti - Via AntonioBaldissera; the creation of green walls along theedge rail in order to mitigate the visual impact and noise.
