Catholic Primary School Continuing the journey through partnership 25 November 2016 Newsletter Number 36/2016 Dear Parents, Care-givers, Friends and Supporters of Catholic Education, Staff and Students, Precious in your sight I recently changed my addiction: from one computer word game to another. Oh yes, I know you’ll say it’s not a real addiction; it isn’t drugs or gambling. It hasn’t consumed my life, yet. You might say to me that, while it wasted time, it provided relaxation…except that it hasn’t. It has provided ‘distraction’…and that is what addiction is really about: being distracted from ourselves. Our lives are precious, so precious we find ways to tone down the mystery that we are. We can distract ourselves by abusing something that is good: drugs, money, midday TV, computer games. (If used the right way these would enhance our sense of preciousness.) Or we can try to justify our worth by excessive work or by putting impossible standards on ourselves, and then bash ourselves up when we don’t attain them. Or we can stop, take a deep breath and accept that we are precious in the eyes of God. We can stop the frenetic life, stop the distractions, live under the gaze of God’s love and allow the mystery to work its grace within us. A few moments each day, perhaps at the beginning and at the end can help recalibrate our hearts and lives to what they deeply yearn. We are made in love for love. Loving God, let me accept how precious I am in your sight. Let me enjoy the wonder of my being, accept the mystery of who I am and then learn to live and grow in love. I ask this in Jesus’ name confident that you will hear me. Sr Kym Harris osb Mr John Ballinger-Oches Principal

Dear Parents, Care-givers, Friends and Supporters of Catholic Education, Staff and Students, Precious in your sight I recently changed my addiction: from one computer word game to another.

Let me enjoy the wonder of my being,

accept the mystery of who I am and then learn to live and grow in love. I ask this in Jesus’ name

confident that you will hear me. Sr Kym Harris osb

FROM THE PRINCIPAL GRATITUDE JOURNAL

Gratitude is one of the most important virtues we can have in our

lives and is an important part of building happiness. Gratitude

can be defined as “the quality of being thankful; readiness to

show appreciation for and to return kindness”. It is easy in life

at times to focus on our problems rather than to be thankful for

all the wonderful blessings we have been given.

Our School is very grateful to … Melissa Fallon who very kindly cleaned

the Classroom fridges Friday. She popped

into the office and asked for jobs to do.

Thank you too to Mrs Krebbs who also volunteered

to clean fridges.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! PRIEST APPOINTMENTS 2017

Fr Satish Peddakotla has been appointed as

COMMUNITY NEWS FUNKEY BEAT

Funkey Beat is proud to introduce its new project to

help children develop their creative minds.

We are starting a vacation school in Mackay with an

emphasis on visual arts (drawing Painting and art appreciation) and music (performance, improvisation, rhythm, composing and theory).

The intensive course is run over a two week period from

the 9th to the 20th of January from 9.00am to 2.30 pm

with an hour lunch break. Lunch will be provided.

Our teachers have extensive experience within their chosen

fields as well a passion for teaching and passing on their skill

to young inquisitive minds.

The course will finish with a performance and an art

exhibition. Students don’t have to have any previous

experience as the course will cater for all skill levels.

Course is open to children who will start grade 4 in 2017 up

to children in grade 8.
