二、教学总目标

能听懂教师对有关熟悉话题的陈述并能参与讨论。能读供七至八年级学生阅读的简单读物和报纸杂志,克服生词障碍,理解大意。能根据阅读目的运用适当的阅读策略。能与他人合作,解决问题并报告结果,共同完成学习任务。能在学习中互相帮助,克服困难。能合理计划和安排学习任务,积极探索适合自己的学习方法。

三.教材分析

《牛津英语》八年级(下册),全书共有六个单元,本教材各单元话题灵活,贴近生活实际。本册书将学习的一些语法知识点有:现在完成时、被动语态.间接引语、时间状语从句、条件状语从句、反意疑问句等。同时每个单元后都提供了一篇阅读文章,用以训练学生的阅读能力,扩大学生的阅读量。

Step3. Read

Have students read the dialogue after the tape. They should try to imitate the intonation and the pronunciation. Ask them to practise reading by themselves.

Step4. Presentation

1. How do you come to school today?

2. How did you go to school at the age of 10.

Then ask students to work with their partners. Try to think out different kinds of transport in their daily lives.

(bus, car, train, bike, plane and so on.)

Step5. Discussion

Ask students to discuss with their partner.

Task: Do you know other kinds of transport?

Ask them first discuss then list down other kinds of transport they know. They should finish discussing in 2 minutes.

Step6.Presentation

1. Introduce the new words to the students. Make them understand the Chinese meanings of these words and ask them to read after me for twice. Give them 1 minute to practice reading them. Invite several students to read the new words.

2. T: We know all these transport is in Hong Kong. But do you know when Hong Kong has these transport.

For example: When did Hong Kong have light rail? (in 1988)

Ask students to work with their partners to ask this question in turns.

Have them finish Part A. Check the answers together.

3. Ask students to learn all the time by heart. Then finish Part B. Make students understand the timeline.

Step7. Quiz

Read the following sentences and ask students to guess which mode of transport am I describing.

1. It has traveled across Victoria Harbour, between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon since 1898. (ferry)

2. It’s an easy way to get to the top of the peak. (peak tram)

3. There are many of them. Each one has wheels and takes you to many places in and around

Step8. Game

Ask one student to come to the front of the class and think of a mode of transport. The other students have to ask questions to try to guess what the student is thinking of. The student at the front can only say ‘Yes’ or ‘No.’ The first student who guesses correctly thinks of another mode of transport and the game continues.

Teaching procedure:

Step1. Daily report

Ask one student to give us the daily report.

Step2. Presentation

Review the use of the simple past tense. Ask students for some sample sentences.

e.g. I had an English lesson yesterday.

My mother cooked for us last week.

Tell students that the simple past tense is used when we talk about events that happened at a definite time in the past and are now finished or no longer true.

Explain that when we want to talk about the present and the past, e.g., to talk about actions or situations that started in the past and are continuing into the present or still have some connections with the present, we use the present perfect tense.

Write two sentences on the board, one using the simple past tense and one using the present perfect tense, e.g.,

She lived in Nanjing in 1995.

She has lived in Nanjing since 1995.

Ask “Does she live in Nanjing now?” For the first sentence, the answer is ‘No.” For the second sentence, the answer is “Yes.”

Tell students about a few adverbs which can help them recognize the use of the present perfect tense. Tell them about the use of ‘for’ and ‘since’ in the sample sentences.

Explain to students that the present perfect tense can also be used in sentences without the adverbs which determine its definite use. In those cases, students need to understand the function of the action affecting the present, e.g. in the sentence ‘She has arrived.’, we know that she has arrived some time before now, but we do not know when. The past tense is used if we have a fixed time, e.g. ‘She arrived yesterday/ this morning.’

Work through a few more example sentences illustrating the difference between the past tense and the present perfect tense, e.g.,

I saw a film last night. (We know it was at a specific time in the past.)

I have seen many films. (We know that it was in the past, but the time is not specified.)

Explain the sentences in the table at the bottom of page9 and work through a few example sentences.

Explain that we form the present perfect tense by adding ‘have’/ ‘has’ in front of the past participle. The past participle is the same for all persons. e.g.

They have studied English for four years.

She has been here since 11 a.m.

I have not eaten lunch yet.

Ask students to identify the past participle in each of the examples (‘studied’, ‘been’, ‘eaten’) Explain that most past participle are formed by adding ‘ed’ to the infinitive, but there are some irregular forms that students have to learn by heart. Tell students to refer to the ‘Irregular verbs’ on page 112 of their books.

Step3 Exercise

Divide the class into pairs. Ask students to go through the table on page10 and ask more able students to make one sentence with each past participle in the table.

Go over the past participles as a class. Ask a few more able students to read out the sentences they wrote using the past participles.

Ask students to complete the sentences in Part A1 on their own. Remind students that they will need to use the correct form of the verb ‘ have’, followed by the past participle. Explain that if the sentence is negative, the word ‘ not’ goes between the auxiliary (‘have’/ ‘has’) and the past participle. Ask six students to read out one sentence each.

Review the grammar tables on page 11 and explain how to ask and answer questions using the present perfect tense.

Ask students a few questions using the sentence structures already practiced earlier. Students answer using the correct short answers.

e.g. Have you seen any films recently?

Have you remembered to bring your homework?

Have you joined the Drama Club?

Have you played in any sports competitions yet?

Have you done your project?

Tell students to complete the sentences in Part A2. Ask two volunteers to read out the completed conversation, one reading the part of Millie and the other reading the part of Sandy. Check for errors and mispronunciation.

Step4. Adverbs of time

Students should already have some understanding of the meanings of adverbs of time from earlier work. Review each word in the table individually and make sure students understand the differences.

Ask students to read out the example sentences on page 12.

Ask more able students to make one sentence for each of the adverbs of time.

Step6. Homework:

To review the contents of this part.

To finish the exercise on the exercise book.

Step7. Additional exercise

Choose the correct adverbs of time to complete the sentences.

Ask one student to give us the daily report.

Step2. Discussion

T: We know Starlight Town is near Beijing. Do you know there are many changes to it?

Please look at the two pictures here. Please discuss in group of four students “ What has changed to Starlight Town over these years?”

Step 1 :Leading – in

I show some pictures which were taken when I travelled once. Then I ask the students :Where was I? Do you like travelling? Then I say today we will talk about travelling, the tourist attractions in the world.

Step 2 Presentation

6. the teachers say: Have you ever been to any places in your holidays? where did you go? Do you know any famous places of interest? Let the students talk about and speak out the places which they have been to.

7. use the Multi-Media to show the tourist attractions in the book. and which country it is.

Mount Fuji : It is in Japan. There is snow on the top of this mountain.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa: this tower is in Italy. It is leaning.

The Little Mermaid: It is a statue of a girl in Denmark. The girl has a fish’s tail instead of legs.

Step 1 Having a revision

Could you talk about the places of great interest where you have ever been to.

Present your information and some interesting facts to the class.

Step 1 Reading aloud the passage

Turn to page 26 and read aloud the passage together.

Kitty is back in Beijing. She is showing some photos of her visit to her neighbor Julia. Finish the conversation of Part B1 on page 28.

Step 2 Having a revision

Step 2. Presentation

1. Remind students that they learned about prefixes in Book 8A, Unit5. Tell them that a suffix serves a similar purpose, but it goes at the end of a word. Tell them that the suffix ‘-ful’ means ‘full of’ or ‘having the qualities of’. The suffix ‘-less’ means ‘without’.

2. Tell students that some nouns can take either suffix, some nouns can take either suffix, some can only take ‘-ful’, some can only take ‘-less’ and some can take neither.

Step3. Reading and learning

1. Read out the examples in the table at the top of page 30. Ask students to think of some sentences using the positive and negative adjectives listed. Write the sentences on the board.

2. Ask students to read the list of nouns in Part A.

3. Check students’ understanding of each word. For weaker classes, review ‘cheer’, ‘delight’, ‘harm’ and ‘wonder’.

4. Ask students to complete Part A. Tell them to use a dictionary for words they are not sure of.

5. When students have finished, ask nine students to read out one row of the table each. Write the words on the board so students can check their spelling.

6. Tell more able students to do the extra exercise.

Step 4 Learning

1. Explain the context of Part B. Sandy is telling Millie about her trip to Japan.

2. Ask students to complete what Sandy says on their own. Tell them that all the words they need can be found in the two tables above.

3. Ask a volunteer to read out Sandy’s completed speech bubble. Ask another student to write the words with suffixes on the board.
