“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.”

~ Andre Gide

Change is something we encounter every day.

Those with the courage to embrace it will have

the opportunity to discover their passion and

shape their community, their industry and

the world.

When you choose Centennial, you choose to

engage in an experience that goes beyond

learning the skills and knowledge needed to

get a job. You choose to learn about yourself,

about our complex world and about the role

and responsibility you have in making

positive change.

Our Signature Learning Experience will challenge

and reward you in ways very few college

experiences can. All diploma students complete

a course on global citizenship which helps them

to gain a new perspective on themselves and

the world around them. Over the past few years,

numerous Centennial students have participated

in Global Citizenship and Equity Learning

Experiences in the Dominican Republic, Cuba,

Jamaica, Kenya, Peru, Walpole Island and the

Amazon. Whether they helped build a school or

aided health care providers or marine biologists,

the participants noticed profound changes within

themselves. Changes that made them better

people with a greater sense of what they had to

offer their community, our country and the world.

Centennial is renowned for its exemplary

teaching, innovative programming and

extensive partnership building and for creating

global citizens. We will give you the skills and

knowledge you need for a successful career and

an understanding of the world that will make you

stand out to employers.

Page 4: centennialcollegeCommunity and Health Studies can make that a reality, whether it’s nursing a patient to good health, teaching a child to read, protecting the population from harm,

Centennial College is committed to preparing our students to be leaders of positive social change in our inter-connected world. Since 2009, the Global Citizenship and Equity Learning Experience (GCELE) has embodied that commitment.

Through the GCELE, Centennial students have had the chance to travel to numerous countries, including Peru to improve schools and to the Dominican Republic to take part in projects that empower youth and families to break the cycle of poverty.

To gain perspective into global challenges, broaden your learning and help you contribute to change, the GCELE makes a world of difference.

The world is changing rapidly – are you changing with it? Our Signature Learning Experience (SLE) will help you discover the more socially and culturally aware citizen within yourself, to apply in life and the workforce.

The SLE includes a course entitled

“Global Citizenship: From Social

Analysis to Social Action.” You’ll also

have the chance to create a portfolio

where you document your growth and

understanding of global citizenship,

social justice, equity and inclusion.

This will become a companion piece to

your standard resumé, illustrating the

complete range of your education.

Think of the traits that are highly

valued, as an employee and citizen. The

SLE will help you to grasp the cultural

and communications aspects of diversity.

Increase your global consciousness.

Enhance your leadership abilities.

Collaborate with people of many

backgrounds and beliefs. Take actions to

drive progressive change. And improve

your interpersonal, critical-thinking and

problem-solving skills.

Your SLE will distinguish you to

employers and in the workforce, giving

you a competitive edge as someone

prepared for the challenges of today –

and tomorrow.

To excel in life I truly believe we have to consistently nourish and surround ourselves with environments conducive to our growth…The vision of these GCELE trips, which gives students such as myself, the opportunity to travel to various regions of the planet, to practice stewardship, regarding global citizenship, is truly remarkable.

On the danforth

For Torontonians who are looking for

community, culture and lifestyle news –

everything from local events to food to

health – one of the most eclectic sources

is On the Danforth.

Run by the students of Centennial

College’s Publishing – Book, Magazine

and Electronic program, On the Danforth

is published biannually and distributed all

over Toronto’s Danforth area. An online

version (onthedanforth.ca) supplements

these publications with current and

engaging content. It’s a prime example

of how students in the School of

Communications, Media and Design are

ready to ply their crafts.

A career with a creative Edge At the School of Communications, Media and Design, we

are much like you: creative thinkers. Our campus – the Story Arts Centre – lives up to its name. You’ll find state-of-the-art production, broadcasting and digital facilities, where you can hone your skills, apply your imagination and tell your story.

Reimagining a better Future We are in an era of dramatic change, where innovative

SETAS comprises three departments: Applied Biological and Environmental Sciences, Information and Communication Engineering Technology, and Advanced Manufacturing and Automation Technology. We offer over 20 nationally-accredited engineering technician/technology programs, among the most in Ontario.

Our programs take our students to the frontiers of advanced technology and entirely new career options. In fact, SETAS graduates are so well-trained that they’re able to bypass the standard entry-level option and start immediately at intermediate-level positions.

the Middle East, South Asia and the

Americas. Along with building practical

skills, preparing this food is a wonderful

introduction to our diverse cultures.
