ThosestudentswhofailtomeettherequirementsofourAcademicStandardsofProgress(definedbelow)willbeputonacademicprobation.PlacingastudentonacademicprobationisatthesolediscretionofaLearnKeyteamrepresentative.SuchamovewillonlyoccuraftertherehasbeenanattemptorattemptstomakecorrectiveactionsbyaLearnKeyteamrepresentative.Actionswhichresultfrombeingplacedonacademicprobationmayinclude:suspensionofcourses,reductionoreliminationofstipend/housingpay(ifapplicable),orotherissuesas identifiedby theLearnKey team.Academicprobationwill be reported to the student’s counselor andacompletecopyofalldocumentationwillbesuppliedtothestudent.

AppealsStudentsmayappealthedecisiontobeplacedonacademicprobationbypresentingtheircaseinwritingtothe LearnKey Student Servicesmanager, Brian Tremelling ([email protected]). Each appeal will bereviewedanddiscussedwiththeappropriateparties.Thestudentmayrequestaconferencecalltobeattendedbyallinterestedparties.

ReinstatementStudentsmayapplytobereinstatedtotheirLearnKeyprogramsafteroneweek,butnolongerthansixmonthsafterprobation.ThestudentshouldsubmittheirrequestforreinstatementtotheLearnKeyStudentServicesmanager,BrianTremelling,withanoutlineoftheactions/interactionswhichresultedintheacademicprobation,andhowthe issuewillberesolved if theyarereinstated.TheLearnKeyStudentServicesmanagerwill thendiscussreinstatementwiththeappropriatepartiesand/orthestudenttodetermineifreinstatementisappropriate.

Statement of RecordsThe LearnKey staff routinely collects data on every studentwith regard to their progress in their program.Collectionmethods include, but are not limited to: LMS data, telephone calls, email, and other electronicinteraction.Collecteddatawillbeusedforthesolepurposeofadvancingthestudentintheirchoseneducationpath,aswellascomplyingwithstateandfederallaw.InformationwillnotbesoldorusedforanyactivityoutsideofLearnKeyanditseducationpartners.

Academic Probation

Important note:Simplyfallingbehindinaprograminandofitselfdoesnotrequirethatastudentbeputonacademicprobation.FallingbehindmaysimplyindicatethatthestudentneedstutoringortochangetheirrateofpursuitwiththeVA.Fallingbehindwill,however,result inacademicprobationandperhapsawritten“onestrike”warningifthereisinsignificantstudentactivity.

StandardsofAcademicProgresshavebeenestablishedasameanstohelpourstudentstomaintainasatisfactorylevelofengagementandprogresstowardtheirstatededucationandcredentialinggoals.TheLearnKeystaffadministers this policy through our online learningmanagement systems (LMS) resources and informs thestudentandotherresponsiblepartiesofthestatusandstudent’sacademicoutlook.

Progress StandardAllstudentswhoengageinaneducationprogramwithLearnKeyareexpectedtoadheretotheirclassscheduleor timelineasoutlined in theirpre-enrollmentdocuments.Due to federal regulations,LearnKeymust reportanysignificantnegativedeviancefromtheschedule.Itisimportantforeachstudenttoimmediatelyreportanycircumstanceswhichmaykeepthemfromprogressingintheireducationalprogrambythepredetermineddate.Finishingearlyisencouragedbecause,inmanycases,anearlyfinishwillsaveeducationbenefitsforthestudentandhe/shewillbemuchbetteroff.

GradesEacheducationmoduleorprogramconsistsofcurriculumfromtheOnlineExpertsystemaswellasvirtuallabsandexamswhichsimulatetheassociatedproctoredexams.Allcoursesinthisprogramaregradedonapass/failsystemandeachelementofeachmodulemustbecompletedwithasatisfactoryscoretoreceiveapassinggrade.

Passing percentages are:• OnlineExpert–ascoreof80%orgreateroneachsessionpost-test• Simulatedexams/simulators–ascoreof80%orgreater• Proctoredexam–passinggrade(scoresvarybysubject)

Outcome AssessmentsEachstudentisrequiredtoachievetheminimumrequirementslistedaboveforallexamstopassthecertifiededucationmodule.

Academic Standard of Progress

Important Note:Somestudentsconfusetheterms“onlineeducation”with“self-pacedlearning.”Ourprogramsareonlineandtheygivethestudentflexibilitytodeterminewhentheywillcompleteclasswork.Thisflexibilityallowsthestudenttobalanceworkandfamilylife.Itdoesnotmeanthat the student can delay in finishing their programs.Delayed finish datemay result in thediscontinuanceofVAbenefits,academicprobation,disqualificationfromBlueOceanguaranteeopportunity(ifapplicable),orevenarequiredpaybacktotheVA.

• Plagiarismisdefinedasmisrepresentingworkthathasbeendonebyanotherasone’sowneffortswhethersuchmisrepresentationhasbeenaccomplishedwithorwithoutthepermissionoftheotherindividual.

• Cheating is theuseof prohibited assistance (whether in thenatureof apersonor a resource) in theperformanceofassignmentsandexaminations,andcopyingofanotherstudent’sworkorthegivingorreceivingofinformationoranswers,whetherverballyorinwriting.

• Blacklisted test preparation programs are certain test preparation programs where the providingcompanysuppliestheexactanswersforacertificationexam,andthesearestrictlyforbiddentobeusedinanycombinationwithLearnKeycoursesorprograms.LearnKeydoesnotprovidealistoftheseprovidersduetothefactthatkeepingacompletelistwhichisup-to-datewouldbeimpracticalifnotimpossible.Itisthestudent’sresponsibilitytoinvestigateandunderstandwhichnon-LearnKeyprogramsareblacklistedby the indicated certification authority. WARNING – certification authorities have become very goodatlearningifastudenthasusedblacklistedmaterials.Penaltiesforthosewhoarecaughtusingthemincludelifetimebansfromcertifying(essentiallyendingone’scareer).
