then were split between the USSR and the UNNorth was given to the USSR, while the

South was given to the UN. This lasted until 1949

Fighting began in 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea. In 1953 fighting stopped when both sides signed an armistice. Now they have a DMZ along the 38th parallel.

Recently North Korea has been in the news due to threats of nuclear weapons and threats of war.
