We can submit ourselves to Jesus

because He is good.

The Kinsman Redeemer• If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son,

the widow of the dead man shall not be married to a stranger outside the family; her husband’s brother shall go in to her, take her as his wife, and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her. And it shall be that the firstborn son which she bears will succeed to the name of his dead brother, that his name may not be blotted out of Israel. Deuteronomy 25:5-6

• The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him, saying: “Teacher, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. Matthew 25:23-24

Don’t Be a Schemer •A story of the kinsman redeemer gone wrong (Gen 38)

• Judah has three sons Er, Onan, and Shelah• Er is wicked and God kills him• Onan refuses to be the kinsman redeemer, God kills him• Judah’s wife dies and he becomes lonely• Tamar refuses to wait for Shelah to be her husband, seduces

and tricks Judah into being her baby daddy.• Judah finds out Tamar is pregnant and wants her burned for

adultery• Judah realizes he is the baby daddy and is ashamed

You Don’t Have to be a Stereotype•You cannot do the wrong thing for the right reasons

• Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father. Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day. Genesis 18:32, 36-37

•Allow God to define who you are• For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God Romans 8:14-16

Be Righteous When No One Can See• A disciple must have integrity

• He who walks with integrity walks securely, But he who perverts his ways will become known. Proverbs 10:9

• The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them. Proverbs 11:3

• The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him. Proverbs 20:7

• Recognize that Jesus is more desirable than sin• Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such

things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
