Since the beginning, CastleVania has been a blending of the classic horror

movies, by putting Count Dracula at the head of the pack, and having other

monsters serve as bosses (Frankenstein, The Mummy Man, etc! Vampires have

been part of lore and legends throughout history "o#ever, they #ere first made

popular through $ram Stoker%s Dracula, #ritten in &') *et ho# #ell does $ramStoker%s story fit into the CastleVania lineage+

lease note that the Castlevania timeline is very inconsistent There are a fe#

loop holes - for one, the .merican Castlevania / instruction manual specifically

states that Trevor%s adventures take place &00 years before Simon%s, #hereas the

official 1apanese version has Christopher (and the 2ameboy titles! follo#ing

Trevor%s .dventure This #as likely a mistranslation, ho#ever .lso, the

resurrection dates are not al#ays e3actly &00 years, but this can be acceptable

This official timeline #as previously found at 4onami 1apan%s Castlevania page,

#hich has since been dismantled, for #hatever reason Similarly, some games(like the 5intendo 67 games, Castlevania 8egends and Circle of the Moon! have

been taken out of the official timeline for reasons that aren%t entirely apparent

is revealed - the kidnapping of Sara #as all orchestrated by Mathias .ngry at

2od for the death of his #ife, Mathias orchestrated the plot in order to have

>alter%s soul absorbed into his incomplete :bony Stone - he used 8eon to kill

>alter so he could claim the artifact, the Crimson Stone, as his o#n The :bony

Stone became the Crimson Stone upon absorbing >alter%s soul as he died, and

upon claiming it, Mathias #as granted eternal life (by becoming a Vampire!

end of the game, Sonia gives birth to a baby - uite possibly, this is Trevor,

1476 - Castlevania 3: Draculas Curse 5e3t in the line of active Vampire "unters #as Trevor

$elmont "e #as called to action #hen Dracula #as

prematurly risen by some of his follo#ers (#hom he

promptly slaughtered and sacrificed for thier services! The

Count no# had t#o purposes, to cover the #orld in

darkness, and to destroy the $elmont family once and for all Trevor, had the help

of three brave fighters@ 2rant Da5asty, Sypha $elnades, and .lucard, son of

Dracula >ith their help, they managed to lay Dracula to rest Trevor #as also

victorious at gaining the trust of omania, #hich became once again home to the

$elmonts

1479 - Castlevania: Curse of Dar!ness

Dracula had been slain, but his curse still ravaged the land This installment

focuses on a young man named "ector, #ho had preciously been part of

escaped, but his freedom #as not #ithout a price - ;saac, once a dear friend,

accused "ector%s lover of #itchcraft, and had her burned Filled #ith anger,

inside, Ma3im begins to act funny - in his =ealousy, could he be conspiring

179% - Dracula : 'ondo of &loodBnce again, Count Dracula comes back to the mortal plane and he a#akens

having learned a small lesson from his last endevor This time he learned of a

$elmont named ichter "e observed ichter for a #hile and learned that he had

a girlfriend, .nnette enard, and several friends in the village "is time act #as

no# "e kidnapped .nnette, her sister Maria, and a fe# other villagers ichter

set forth on his long =ourney, not kno#ing if things #ould turn out for the better

"o#ever, #hen ichter rescued Maria, she s#ore she #ould become a vampire

hunter too, and =oined the $elmont on his uest Together they freed all of the

captives, and slayed Dracula yet again

1797 - Castlevania: ),m.#on, of t#e /ig#t

Four years after ichter%s battle #ith the Count, darkness came yet

again . Dark riest named Shaft, #as hungry for ultimate po#er

and thought he could achieve this #ith the help of Dracula "e set

forth to resurrect Drac yet again, but first he #ould remove a ma=or

obstacle in his path, ichter $elmont "e placed a spell upon

ichter and actually managed to get him to side #ith evil This large

shift in po#er caused .lucard to a#aken from his slumber - the same .lucard

#ho had purposefully put himself to sleep in hope of ridding e3istence of his

cursed bloodline 5o# Shaft had to be stopped to prevent all of mankind from

being e3tinguished During the raid of the ne#ly appeared castle, he crosss paths

#ith Maria several times, #ho is also searching to investigate the appearance of

ichter

.s it turns out, the $elmont has been possessed by Shaft to rule the castle .fter

breaking this curse, .lucard enters the ;nverted Castle, a biarre #orld #here

everything is turned upside do#n "e seeks do#n Shaft, defeats him, and faces

off against his father once more >hen victory has been taken, he s#ears to sleep

yet again

1(30 - Castlevania: Circle of t#e oon

The dark priestess Carmilla seeks the return of her master, 8ord Dracula ?sing

the life po#er of the captured vampire hunter Morris $ald#in, t#o young

disciples, "ugh $ald#in and 5athan 2raves, must not only save him but stop yet

another resurrection of the evil lord Dracula "ugh, envious of 5athan%s skills, is

#eak against the evil po#ers of the castle and turns against 5athan $ut in the

Some time after the events of Symphony of the 5ight (as #ell as some events

mentioned in the Castlevania adio Drama, the $elmont family seems to beabsent >ith no one to carry on the vampire hunting and slaying of the &'00%s,

different organiations #ere created The story in this game deals #ith one such

organiation, called the GBrder of :cclesiaG, #hose practitioners used magic in

the form of 2lyphs to perform amaing feats in order to vanuish evil . set of

po#erful glyphs, meant to hold back and contain Dracula%s Magic (named

%Dominus%!, #ere created by the Brder and an e3alted member of the Brder, a

#oman named Shanoa, #as to perform a ritual to become the human vessel of

Dominus, in order for the magic to be dispelled completely The ritual fails,

ho#ever, #hen a rogue :cclesia member named .lbus steals the glyphs .t the

reuest of her mentor, a priest named $arlo#e, Shanoa, no# #ithout memoriesand seemingly emotionless due to the botched ritual, sets forth to discover the

truth behind .lbus%s intentions

;n truth, .lbus, #ho has cared for Shanoa for years, akin to a brother, but uite

possibly had some feelings beyond such for her, actually stole the Dominus

2lyphs because he had figured out that $arlo#e, a corrupt priest, #as actually

going to use them to sacrifice Shanoa to Dominus, and revive 8ord Dracula and

be given immense po#er Fearing that Shanoa #ould die, he carefully stole the

2lyphs as to not kill Shanoa, but instead blank out her memories .lbus

sacrifices his o#n sanity though, since =ust being in the vicinity of Dominus can

drive an ordinary person mad .lbus has taken small samples of blood of the

people of >ygol, a village nearby, because they are, in fact, $elmont descendants

and he thought that a ritual #ith their blood #ould give him the po#er to be near

Dominus #ithout going mad (this #as not entirely accurate! Depending on the

villagers you have saved by the time you fight .lbus, you can alter the course of

events and change the ending Bn the best ending, .lbus perishes but fuses his

essence #ith the glyph as Shanoa absorbs it .fter giving up the last of the

Dominus trio in a fight, .lbus dies, but his soul tells Shanoa of all of the events

"e also reveals that Dominus is not meant to #ard Dracula%s Magic, but is rather

made FBM Dracula%s Magic and is actually Dracula%s :ssence "e also tells

her that it #as no accident that she lost her memories and that in fact, $arlo#e

had used her memories as a sacrifice in order to control Dominus Shanoa faces

a corrupt $arlo#e in battle, and upon his defeat he offers up his o#n life to

ressurect Dracula >ith no one left on her side, and no one kno#ing of :cclesia

at all, she alone must venture into a ne#ly-risen Castlevania to destroy the

Count

>hen reaching the 4eep, Shanoa must use Dominus to destroy Dracula or

destroy herself .t the last moment, it is revealed that the life that is sacrificed

does not need to be hers, and .lbus%s soul, fused into the glyphs, offers itself as a

sacrifice This restores Shanoa%s emotions and she smiles upon reuest by

.lbus%s fleeting soul These events are not recorded and all kno#ledge of

Castlevania rising, :cclesia, Shanoa, and .lbus, fade into obscurity

1(44 - Castlevania: Legac, of Dar!ness

Through the necromancy of his follo#ers, Dracula is once dra#n back into land

of the living earlier than usual "o#ever, his body is not fully regenerated .fter

destroying local villages, he begins to kidnap children, looking for a suitable

soul ;t is then #hen man-beast Cornell steps in and attempts to stop this plan, for

his adopted sister .da is one of those captured .lthough he saves his sister, he is

not entirely successful in destroying the Count This game has also been

retconned by 4o=i ;garashi

:ight years do#n the road, a man of $elmont lineage

named einhart Schneider, and a small girl, descendent

of Sypha named Carrie Fernande, continue to

investigate the missing children from the local village

help out of the castle, only to learn that this young one

is actually harboring the soul of Dracula #ithin him ;n

Castlevania@ 8egacy of Darkness, you also play as a gun-#ielding knight named

"enry, one of the children Cornell freed several years prior, to rescue other

are referenced, and could be the setting for a future game

Thirty si3 years after Dracula%s final defeat, 1apanese high school student Soma

Cru and his friend Mina "akuba enter into a shrine, only to emerge inside

Castlevania There they encounter 2raham 1ones, a cult leader #ho looks to

assume the po#er of Dracula for his o#n >hile the lord vampire had been

destroyed, his soul still seeks reincarnation into the human #orld The young

boy%s uest is aided by a mysterious man named 2enya .rikado, #ho is not-so-

subtly alluded to as being .lucard in disguise, as #ell as *oko $elnades,

descendent of Sypha Soma soon learns that the soul of Dracula lies #ithin him,
