Single crystals of the title compound are grown by solid state reaction of thoroughly purified (sublimation) InBr and ZrBr 4 (2:1 molar ratio, 300 C, 31 d). The produced samples are diamagnetic (χ mol = -2.27 [10 -4 emu/mol]). Thus, previous claims that In 2 ZrBr 6 exhibits Van Vleck-type paramagnetism are disproved. Based on structural data of higher accuracy (tetragonal, space group P4/mnc, Z = 2) density functional band structure calculations are performed which give no evidence for indirect coupling of In and Zr mediated by bromine. — (JANSEN, MARTIN; WAGNER, NORBERT; BECKER, MICHAEL; WEDIG, ULRICH; J.
