Profile:

I am a motivated and organised individual who is committed to pursuing a career in architecture.

The need for building sustainability is a key interest of mine and I am eager to pursue it within my career.

I am searching for a position which will challenge my skills and provide exciting opportunities within this field.

Key Skills:

I enjoy working as part of a team and always strive to complete tasks fully, to the highest standard and on time.

I am proficient in the use of a range of computer software including 2D AutoCAD, Revit, Sketch Up, Light Up, Photoshop, InDesign and all Microsoft packages.

I work diligently and have excellent social and presentation skills.

Interests:

Being a qualified Sailing Instructor and First Aider has enabled me to refine the important social skills of leadership, responsibility and communication. This allowed me to work for the YMCA charity as director of sailing at Camp Hi-Rock. Completing my Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award has enhanced my teamwork skills.

Charity work is important to me which is why I raised money running the Bath Half Marathon in March 2016. In addition, I volunteered for the Ocean Youth Trust Charity by assisting in a voyage from Whitehaven to Newcastle via Inverness to return their ship to its home port.

The School Project:

This was my Second Year project in which I was required to design an Infant School by considering a medium size multi-celled building. I enjoyed this project immensely as I was able to understand the functions and spaces required at an early stage. This allowed me to create more detailed layers within the design. In addition, site analysis and environmental aspects were major factors in producing this design.

Mark Reeves Architects:

I worked at Mark Reeves Architects as an architectural assistant for six months in 2016. Whilst at the practice I worked on a variety of residential masterplans based all over the UK. I also assisted with creating planning applications which encompassed a broad range of work from constructing street elevation to modifying house types and improving masterplans.

Erasmus at UEM Madrid Third Year: Modular House Project:

This project was situated in Villaviciosa de Odon, close to Madrid. The town has seen a lot of development in recent decades which has destroyed much of the natural environment. This house is modular and movable to minimise its impact on the environment.

Erasmus at UEM Madrid Third Year: Student Complex:

This scheme was also situated in Villaviciosa de Odon and proposes a parkland area which would connect the town to the natural environment. The scheme has multiple uses as a student residence and a community centre. This was a very dynamic project and I developed skills to renovate an existing building.

The Boat House Project:

This was another Second Year project where I was asked to design a boat house for the harbour master at Bristol Docks. The boat house project was my first design in which site analysis was the most important aspect, consequently I realised how important it was to create successful architecture which responds clearly to its context.

The House Project:

This was my final First Year project where I was asked to design a two storey house. This project included environmental aspects within it. I used Light Up software to predict the daylight factor and vertical sky component of the windows to appropriately design them. In addition, I produced a 1:50 model of my scheme and created a detailed perspective section at 1:50 of the load bearing construction.

The Open/Closed Project:

This was a First Year project in which I was asked to design a stall which had an open and a closed setting. This project marked the moment I really began to understand architecture and the presentation of my schemes in drawing and modelling.

Relevant Work Experience:

Work experience at three Architectural Practices confirmed my ambition to become an Architect. The first was a Landscape Practice, Leeming Associates, where I was able to attend a site visit and observe projects at different stages of development.

The importance of communicating the technical and the visual aspects of a project to a client became clear to me through my work experience at Gelder and Kitchen, Hull.

Finally at Niven Architects I worked with different computer software packages to assist with designs. I talked to Architects and Engineers who demonstrated how essential teamwork is within the profession.

These three experiences gave me a realistic expectation of what is involved in Architecture and how the building process is carried out.

I am a confident and self-motivated individual who is keen to become a reliable part of the team and work consistently within a practice. I am looking forward to my second internship and hope to gain valuable skills and experience.
