TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Possible cause Ignition coil(s).

Fault finding

Confirm the customer complaint. Check whether it is necessary to reprogram the

injection computer (see Reprogramming theinjection computer: Engine instability )(Technical Note 4184A, 17B) and/or(Technical Note 4211A, 17B).

Confirm any possible fault with the ignition coil(s) (see Fault finding Test ) (Technical

Note 6505A, 17B, Petrol injection).

Operation to be carried out

Run fault finding on the ignition coils using thespecial tool Ele. 1808: "Ignition coil tester" (seeFault finding Test ) (Technical Note 6505A, 17B,Petrol injection).

If the fault finding concludes that at least one ofthe ignition coils is faulty:

DENSO / BERU / ELDOR ignition coils: Only replace the faulty coil(s).

Or

SAGEM / JCAE / VALEO ignition coils: Replace the faulty coil and all of the ignition

coils with a manufacturing date code which isstrictly below 330 3 .

Description of the operation

On CLIO 2, Mgane, Scnic and Laguna

Remove the engine covers. Disconnect the connector(s) from the ignition coil(s). Remove the mounting bolt(s) from the ignition coil(s). Replace the ignition coil(s).

Reconnect the ignition coil connector(s). Refit the engine covers.

On KANGOO, CLIO III, MODUS, MEGANE II,SCENIC II and LAGUNA II

Replace the ignition coil(s) (see Coils: Removal Refitting ) (MR for the vehicle, 17A, Ignition).
