For this assignment I was assigned to design and produce a vessel that is to hold cologne or perfume. The only other

constraint was that it had to be castable for when sent off to

    be casted.

Chapter Two: Word Choices & Reference Images

    The first step to

this process was to draw many thumbnail

sketches for ideation and then choose my favoirte and render them.

  • 7 Exotic Originating in or characteristic of a distant foreign country.

Intimidating To frighten or overawe (someone), especially in order to make the do what one wants.

    8CONNORS 2014CONNORS 2014

  • Glacial Relating to, resulting from, or denoting the presence or agency of ice, especially in the form of

    glaciers.

  • 17 18CONNORS 2014CONNORS 2014

  • After choosing my favorite sketches

and renderings, I then translated and constructed

them into blue foam and then chose my favortie two models to move forward with and refine those models to the point I could choose which one I thought

would be the most successful for the

    process.

    After sketching and

crafting many studymodels, I had come to the conclusion

glacial would be the most successful concept to continue with. I created four more models that I thought encapsulated the word glacial. I chose the best

model to refine to its final form before changing

    materials.

    Chapter Eleven: Aluminum Iteration

Started to mill intothe aluminum forthe milled sprayer heads.

  • 49 50CONNORS 2014CONNORS 2014

After milling and checking if the heads fit I started to sand.

I sanded it to a matte finish, enough to the point where I could document it.

  • 51 52CONNORS 2014CONNORS 2014

After documenting I glued the magnets in.

Finished with the magnet installation I moved onto final sanding and polishing.

The vessels are one form when together and they break apart to then form the two vessels.

There are two correct ways of holding the vessels.

  • CONNORS 2014CONNORS 2014

    Chapter Twelve: Stand Introduction

    55 56

  • Constraints After I had finished my vessels, I was assigned to to design and construct a stand that would hold said vessels. The stand is to show off my vessels in a a professional environment like a store. The stand is supposed to be made exclusively out of cardboard and have no adhesives that hold it together and be strong enough to hold the vessels.

  • CONNORS 2014CONNORS 201459 60

  • 62CONNORS 2014CONNORS 2014

    Chapter Fourteen: Quarter Scale Models

    61

  • I took all the sketches and constructed them into chipboard and bristol models at quarter scale.

    63 64CONNORS 2014CONNORS 2014

  • 65 66CONNORS 2014CONNORS 2014

Chapter Fifteen: First Full Size Iteration

Once I chose what I thought would be the most successful stand, I madea full scale stand. I decided to make it tall and open to simulate the open ocean and also cut a mountain likecut out into the top of the model.

  • The tabbing system I used for this stand wasnt strong enough, so it was back to the drawing board.

    67 68CONNORS 2014CONNORS 2014

    Chapter Sixteen: Second Iteration

  • 69 70CONNORS 2014CONNORS 2014

For this iteration I decided to just try and see how different scoring techniques could help. I also explored better tabbing techniques.

The tabbing system I chose for this stand worked better than the first, but it was too big and bulky. It just looked really bad. I did find out that longer tabs worked better and that scoringtechniques had to be precise to get the right bend.

  • 71 72CONNORS 2014CONNORS 2014

    Chapter Seventeen: Final Iteration

I began the final stand by combining the two first stands and refining the two by cutting a more glacial/mountainous landscape at the top of the piece. I also made cut outs to simulate depth, like a mountain landscape and water. I alsoglued magnets on the surface to hold the vessels.

  • I refined the tabbing system by making longer tabs and then having them fold through the cutouts and fold in onto each other.

    73 CONNORS 2014CONNORS 2014

Choosing the name and font was hard so I tested fonts and reseached different names in other languages till I found the font and name that I thought were the most appropriate for the product.

    74

  • At the bottom of the stand there are cut outs that simulate icebergs. Also on the faceplate, I cutout another iceberg pattern and tabbed it in to create more structure.

I also create CAD to show the dimensions of the stand for production.

  • Chapter Eighteen: Final Product

    CONNORS 2014CONNORS 2014

A refreshingly cool scent that ensues you with the feeling of being in the arctic circle. Derived from an old Irish recipe passed down through generations of a single family, concocted from the finest ingredience from across the world. It is rumored that kings wore the scent because it was so exotic for the time. You can smell like a fresh winters morning. You to can join the elite. You to can smell like a king.
