Act 1. Biography. How did Gabriel from a

shelter become well-known Coco

Chanel?

 She was born on August 19th, 1883 in France.  Her mother died at a young age, and Gabrielle’s father was not able to take care of 5 children alone.  This is why Gabrielle spent 6 years in an orphanage of the Roman Catholic monastery.

"A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous."

The orphanhood and poverty became for Gabriel Chanel first "universities" of her life. She had great gift of the self-educated person. The family lived from hand to mouth that is why she had not opportunity to be educated.

"There are people who have money and people who are rich."

Coco Chanel all subsequent life aspired to forget about the sad childhood, composed legends. She fought against the past, with that humiliating existence when in despair shouted to pupils of a shelter: "I am not an orphan!" Already then at a poor table she swore to overcome own poverty and haplessness.

"Since everything is in our heads, we had better not lose them."

When Gabrielle was 20 years old, she started working as a cabaret singer.  This is where she got her nickname, Coco.

It was based on two popular songs with which she became identified, “Ko Ko Ri Ko” and “Qui qu’a vu Coco,” The song “Ko Ko Ri Ko” was her favorite. The soldiers there called her "Coco," and she adopted the nickname.

She had many male admirers, and she became a mistress to many powerful men in the society. Because of this, Gabrielle was able to get financial aid and social connections to start a fashion business in 1913.

By 1919, Coco Chanel was firmly established as courtiere and a name in the Parisian fashion industry.

Glorified perfume «Chanel No. 5» was brought Coco world popularity.

Chanel mixed in one 80 different components. There were 20 perfumery test tubes. She chose the fifth asked to add slightly a lily of the valley from her youth, and without thinking twice appropriated to this aroma own name, having added serial number of a trial bottle.

And still her aroma remains to the most sold in the world.

In 1926 the American magazine "Vogue" equated on universality and popularity «a small black dress» to the "Ford" car.

Coco Chanel never was married. It had an infinite number of the admirers, almost all her partners in affairs were men, but she didn't marry. Her contemporaries said that suit art for it always was on the first place

Gabriel Chanel was the woman with a strong mind. She achieved much, but, as we know, any medal has two sides. On the one hand glory and success, and on the other hand, her eternal life's companion – loneliness.

Coco Chanel lived in hotel. The Ritz hotel was her house. More than 30 years Chanel considered Ritz which was one of the most magnificent hotels of Paris, the house.
