• • To use examples to consider how these
positions might apply to meta-ethics

Answers
• Which are true and which are false and why?
• Is there a difference between any of these statements? Which ones are facts and opinions? How do we know?
Truth
• There are two philosophical ways to define truth.• 1 – Correspondence theory of truth – Something is
true insofar as it corresponds/relates to something that actually exists outside of your view. ‘I am a teacher’ corresponds to somethins that is actually true.
• 2 – Coherence theory of truth – Something is true insofar as it is consistent with the view you hold. ‘I am a teacher’ is true in the sense that it consistently adheres to what I say
Correspondence Truth
• ‘The chair is blue’.
• IF you think that this is correspondingly true, move to one side and to the other if you do not think it is.
Cognitive vs Non-Cognitive
• Group 1 – Use p200-201 to take notes on cognitivism. These notes must include key terms cognitive, realist and empirical. You should understand them.
• Group 2 – Notes on non-cognitive/anti-realist. Must also include rejection of propositions
