Logistics Management

Logistics is the process of planning, implementing and controlling the efficient, cost-effective flow and storage of raw materials, in-process inventory, finished goods and related information from the point of origin to point of consumption for the purpose of conforming to customer requirements. Logistics management is a supply chain management component that is used to meet customer demands through the planning, control and implementation of the effective movement and storage of related information, goods and services from origin to destination. Logistics management helps companies reduce expenses and enhance customer service. The Logistics/Supply Chain Mission Getting the right goods or services to the right place, at the right time, and in the desired condition at the lowest cost and highest return on investment. Logistics management is that part of supply chain management that plans, implements, and controls the efficient, effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services and related information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet customers’ requirements.”In logistics management, the main task is to control the supply of products to the final consumer. The business unit acts at the source while the consumer acts as the destination of the products. Supply chain management (logistics management) helps keep in track all activities that occur to the products from time of dispatch to time of consumption. The number of times that the products change hands is also accounted for in the logistics management and plays a very vital role in the whole process.

TYPES OF LOGISTICS

Ӻ 1. Reverse Logistics Reverse logistics is also known as Product Recall. It may be defined as a process of moving goods from their place of use, back to their place of manufacture for re-processing, refilling, repair, and recycling or waste disposal.

Ӻ 2. Inbound Logistics All the activities related to the material movement till the dispatch of the products out of the factory gate are called as inbound logistics activities.

Ӻ 3. Outbound Logistics All the activities in which the value added goods are to be made available in the market for customers are called as outbound logistics activities.

Ӻ 4. Third-Party Logistics (3PL) In order to keep the costs of inbound and outbound logistics activities under control, an outside agency appointed to perform these logistics functions is called “Third Party Logistics”.

Ӻ 5. Forth-Party Logistics (4PL) Forth Party Logistics is a complete outsourcing of manufacturing and logistics functions including selection of Third Party service provider.

LOGISTICS IN THE GLOBALISATION

Logistics functions are same domestically and globally but differ in four D’s i.e. distance, documents, diversity in culture and demand of customer. In the global logistics distances are longer, documentation is more extensive, customer demand varies to satisfy cultural differences within both, countries and regions. Developing strategies to respond to the 4 D environment is the global challenge for logistics management.

CONCLUSIONWithout a doubt, logistics and supply chain management will continue to grow in importance as companies continue to pursue outsourcing, expand their international operations, and do business in a global economic environment. Whatever the field is called that manages product flows, which at the moment is supply chain management.

Water Conservation

A step to conserve water is the step to secure the future. The most essential among all the natural resources on earth is water. A drop of water is worth more than a sack of gold for the thirsty man. If each one of us make efforts to save water today it will save us later. Water conservation is the most effective and environmentally sound method to fight global warming. Water conservation is what that can reduce the scarcity of water. It aims to improve the efficiency of use of water, and reduce losses and waste. Water conservation involves reducing the usage of water and recycling of waste water for various purposes such as cleaning, irrigation and manufacturing. Another method for implementing water conservation is by improving water management practices. These improve the use of water resources to benefit people and the environment. Conserving water is important because water is a finite and vulnerable resource that sustains life. Water conservation is so important because all living organisms need water to survive. It involves caring for water and using it wisely. Water conservation also encompasses activities, strategies and policies of managing the water environment. It aims at achieving sustainability and meeting human demand for water. Water is a part of our daily life and we are heavily dependent on it. The conservation of water is very important and necessary to have a healthy and long-lasting life. Water conservation refers to the reduction in usage of water. It can also include the recycling of water for purposes like irrigation, cleaning, and even treatment for later use. That is the reason why we need to conserve our water,Some water conservation methods include saving, storing and recycling water, and reducing usage. Water conservation also refers to methods of diverting rivers and streams into reservoirs or ponds to capture runoff. Water conservation methods reduce energy requirements for water services and decrease the need and expense for water infrastructure, thereby ensuring clean water for the future.

Traditional Method of Conservation of Water:There are many traditional water bodies which have been in disuse for the longer time. These bodies can be reused as the recharging points such as Ponds, Wells, etc.

Ponds and WellsSteps should be taken to avoid dumping of sewage into the village ponds and wells. Efforts need to be made to deepen these ponds and wells with the dragline machines. Garbage and other waste should not be dumped into the ponds and wells.

Technical methods to conserve water:

Rainwater Harvesting: Rainwater harvesting is the gathering and collection of water from the rooftop. The traditional method of rain water

harvesting is the most effective and simple way to conserve the water. It means utilization of rain water for the domestic as well as agricultural purposes. There are three technical methods of rain water harvesting such as Catchment, Conveyance and storage.

Benefits to Conserve water: ჩ If you save water it can save your money bills. ჩ Reduction in interior water use cuts waste water flows, especially overflowing of gutters which contaminates the

environment. ჩ Environment benefits include eco system and habitat protection. ჩ Water conservation helps in improving the quality of your drinking water.

CONCLUSIONThe earth’s water is limited, and many aquifers around the world are going dry and threatens human which wildlife survival. Fresh water is also necessary to agriculture, which feeds most of the people on the planet. Water is essential to all life, and we need to do everything we can to conserve and preserve it.

Good Things

I once heard an old man say,Shaping vases out of clay

Into subtle forms sublime,“Listen, son, good things take time.”

All my life I’ve thought of thisWhen a task was lacking bliss,

When the work seemed awfully toughAnd I thought I’d had enough.

So I’d give a little moreTo what sometimes seemed a chore;

And, you know, without a doubt,Good things always came about.
